Peggy Rothschild | 54 comments Hi,

Thanks for the opportunity to let everyone know my first thriller, Clementine's Shadow, was released in April and is available in paperback and Kindle formats.

After moving to the California High Desert for a new start, Deputy Casey Lang faces a hard truth: If she doesn't work through her fear of shooting another child, she can kiss her career goodbye. The disappearance of a six-year-old girl from an outdoor concert puts Casey's resolve to the test.

Set in a scorched landscape of played out silver mines and dry riverbeds, Clementine's Shadow tells the story of a child snatched by a predator and the desperate hunt to find her. As the thermostat, rises, three unlikely heroes emerge to help Casey Lang save a young girls life.

"This is one terrific read, fresh and original, a steady drumroll of mystery and suspense with a twisty serpentine plot." - Howard Rosenberg, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning former TV critic for the Los Angeles Times.

Lexie Conyngham | 30 comments Hello, all,

Service of the Heir, the third in the Murray of Letho series of crime novels set in Georgian Scotland, is now available a paperback as well as on Kindle and Smashwords. Hot off the press!

Charles Murray is in Edinburgh when tragedy strikes him. The deaths of a lawyer and a servant not only draw him down to the homes of the capital’s grim underclass, but also make him reconsider his elegant society friends. Yet is everything quite as it seems? Who kills – and who gives the orders?

Massimo Marino | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm writing a speculative post-apocalypse trilogy.

The first volume, Daimones is available both as ebook and paperback and the second, "Once Humans" is enduring the last editing pass before publishing in a few weeks.

Daimones is the winner of the 2012 PRG Reviewer's Choice Award in Science Fiction.
5-star Reviewed by Christopher Dagg for Readers' Favorite
"Daimones" by Massimo Marino is an apocalypse book with a difference. [...]
"This is a good book. It is attractively written and the language flows well. "Daimones" explores some difficult themes. [...]
The main character in the book had the space to develop as their roles changed in the new world. Yet the plot didn't tire but shifted gear to an exciting finish. The evocation of the rich and expensive city of Geneva surrounded by commuter towns in France is especially well done. A great read;"

It is available in E book and will be out in paperback in June. I'll be sure to keep all posted. My first book, a literary fiction romantic adventure Elysian Dreams is available on E book and paperback and is selling quite well in Eastern Europe and Russia. I just wish I knew why. Anyone have any thoughts?
I also have a blog where I post my short stories and one for my poetry. A new poem was added today and I'll be serializing one of my most popular (and longer) stories on my blog starting in June. The links are below. Thanks to all.

Richard Parise | 104 comments Richard Parise | MY HUSBAND'S ON FACEBOOK! My name is Emma Lou Harris. I've been a member of Facebook since it first started. I've accumulated over two hundred friends, all of them women. We've had a grand time posting back and forth over the past few years. Back in the day, they used to call this gossiping. Had kind of a bad connotation. Facebook changed all that. Made it acceptable. We were having a ball. Then it happened. Don't ask me why. Don't ask me how...My husband joined Facebook!
What were the chances? I'd say about the same as Moses parting the Red Sea, or Captain Kangaroo being demoted to private. I can still hear Fred now, "Facebook's stupid." "That's an
invasion of privacy!" "Stop wasting your time." And yet here he is, in all his masculine glory. And guess who received his first friend request?...
Well I was going to say, "Over my dead body!" but with my luck I'd walk out the front door and get hit by a bus. That's all I'd need. Then my widower husband would probably jump onto my Facebook page, check out my two hundred plus friends and start speed dating..

Cybersp@ce

5.0 out of 5 stars Espionage and Extraterrestrials December 18, 2012
By Jeannie Mancini VINE™ VOICE

Format:Paperback
Out in the desert of New Mexico in 1947, a young boy and his parents, while watching a freak lightning storm, heard a loud crash. Young Henry Summers believes that he has just witnessed what he thinks was an alien spacecraft falling from the sky.

Many years later, working with his daughter at the secret military base Area 51, Henry and Kate Summers together have been working on the astonishing secret of what happened that stormy night long ago. What their years of research has found, will now help the US government as international terrorism threatens the nation with an all-out cyberspace attack that could disempower the United States forever. Nuclear plant meltdowns, and what could just turn out to be the total decline and fall of our political place in the world, now rests in their hands to remedy. But they need help.

A hundred thousand people are instantly killed when a New York nuclear power plant meltdown comes from internet hackers in cyberspace; the culprit appearing to have come from the far reaches of China. But ex-KGB agent Nicolai Chervenko knows better. His secret ambition to bring his Mother Russia back to a communist power that will resume global reign, will have China and the United States warring with each other and falling on their knees in submission and defeat.

Dr. Nick Reynolds, one of the government's top IT specialists in the world of Cyberspace operations and security, is called in to assist the military in cracking the problem of outwitting the mystery hacker in their chess game of internet espionage. When Nick discovers that the United States' inability to beat the enemy at their own game is due to current archaic technology, he is quickly discouraged as he realizes our country is doomed. The United States has run out of time, and there is no way to speed up our technological advancement in order to defend the nation from imminent destruction.

As Nick, Kate, and her father battle against time and the lack of computer power to win the game and discover who and what they are up against, our author Jeff Horton throws a Pandora's box of surprises at them that will come from both sides of the playing field, and from another source they could never have dreamed of. The bad guys are nasty, the good guys heroes. When Area 51 meets the KGB, all hell breaks loose with a cat and mouse chase through internet backdoors and where the world of science and the unknown collide.

Cybersp@ce is a riveting "what if" conundrum of a fascinating and well crafted sci-fi/espionage blend that stirs up ingredients of international intrigue, artificial intelligence, action, suspense, and to put the icing on this novel's cake, a nice dollop of romance to make the reader smile. I started this book late one evening and finished it off the next day within a couple of hours. Unputdownable, Cybersp@ace is fun, exciting and another creative masterpiece from Jeff Horton. I read and reviewed his first book "The Great Collapse" and thought it was great, but I think this novel is even better! Jeff knows how to bring it all together. Great character development for both good guys and bad, excellent plot and story planning, his stories are well penned, and he has the gift of allowing the reader many surprises. You just never know what is coming at you next, and with Cybersp@ce, you'll get a cool surprise ending that this reader did not see coming! Five stars Jeff, keep the stories coming!

Helena Schrader | 104 comments Thanks for giving us a chance to talk about our books, Rick! Most groups seem offended to have writers as members and punish even passing references to our own work.

While I'm here, I'd like to draw attention to the first (and five star!) review of my latest release,A Widow's Crusade A Widow's Crusade (Tales from the Languedoc) by Helena P. Schrader I hope it will inspire one or another of our members to read it.

Here's the keynote: A rich widow learns by chance that the man she loved as a maiden was not killed on the Third Crusade as believed. She sets off on a personal crusade across the war-torn Languedoc, daring the pirates and slavers of the Mediterranean, only to find a man, who is nothing like she remembered him -- and is anything but pleased to see Blanche again.

Here's the amazon.com review:

5.0 out of 5 stars A very well written and enjoyable story about a lonely widow and her love for an ageing crusader May 21, 2013

By K Mitchell

Format:Kindle Edition

I've been waiting for the author to put out another story about the Crusades every since I read the English Templar and she doesn't disappoint with this one. She has a wonderful grasp of life in this period so the story really comes to life and the characters are well developed. I did find that the description of Abelard's father's rebellion against Count (then King) Richard got a little convoluted and there was no groundwork for calling the fever he got from over exerting himself in the rain scarlett fever but those are minor issues in an otherwise well written book. The photos of the castles that are included at the end really brings home the enduring legacy of the Templars and the Crusades for those of us who have never been to France or the middle east to see them.

I'm looking forward to reading all the books in the Tales of Chivalry series as they're published. I just wish the author's first two books in the earlier Knights Templar Trilogy were available as ebooks.
"A Widow's Crusade" is on sale for just $1.99.

Reviews on Goodreads would be very welcome!

message 2385: by Neil (new)

Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 271 comments I’ve been a thriller sci-fi writer for more than twenty years now and over that span of time my books have gotten the attention of numerous literary agents and publishers. In 2005, I signed with a major literary agent from a major NY literary agency. This agency had sold hundreds of books and film rights, some for as much as seven figures. I was very excited.

My agent loved all six (at the time) of my books and like all good agents edited them and provided insight to help make the stories more saleable, all without asking for a dime in advance. We had several exciting close-call deals and a few heart-racing moments while waiting to see what kind of money was going to be offered. My agent encouraged me to keep writing more books and truly believed that one day I’d hit it big.

Then something happened that turned my world around; a close friend was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. But here’s the kicker… he was given just two weeks to live. He went from his nine-to-five life, to knowing he had a very limited amount of time left. Having no close family and no money for a good hospital, he was left with little option except to die alone. It is then that my wife and I decided to hospice him.

It was an incredibly powerful experience watching as his life slipped away and how he dealt with it psychologically. When the day finally came that he passed on, I was there to shut off the ventilator and pull the sheet over his head. I’ve never been the same since.

As a writer, I wanted to capture something of the moment and relay what I learned from watching someone’s life end. Having never written a literary fiction novel before, I suddenly found myself in the throes of a powerful statement about the meaning of life. DROP OUT was written in a fanatic ten day period.

When I sent the completed manuscript off to my agent, he was extremely disappointed that I had gone this literary route and had no intentions of ever trying to sell the book. I had no intentions of letting the book sit in a drawer, so after a few emails and telephone calls we decided to end our partnership. I was devastated to be back among the ranks of agent-less authors.

Then something amazing happened.

I indie published DROP OUT a little over a year and a half ago, and since then sales have grown steadily each month. At this point, nearly ten thousand copies of the book have been downloaded and I’ve gotten to as low as 1,500 on Amazon’s paid sales ranking. But what is most heart-warming and gives me the most satisfaction is the emails and reviews that I’ve gotten telling me how the book has changed people’s lives. Almost every review is a five star and what the reader’s are saying… well, check it out yourself.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FX0K7U

I’d like to thank my former agent for dropping me (no pun intended) and giving me the freedom to publish my books on my own. Especially, for giving DROP OUT a chance to change people’s lives. When it comes to the world of big publishing, deadlines, competition, and profit, it’s good to know that by avoiding all that nonsense, a little story with a powerful message can make such a difference in how people view their mortal time on this planet.

Helena Schrader | 104 comments Niel,

This is truly an inspiring story, and one I hope will encourage a lot of us struggling writers to remain true to ourselves.

I made the decision back in college that I would not try to make a living as a novelist. The reason was that I did not want to be dependent on income from writing. I thought that if I had another source of income, I could write "what I had in me" rather than what the publisher (or agent) wanted.

That sounded very good at the time, but I completely under-estimated the desire to share what I wrote. I discovered it wasn't enough to write a "great" book, if no one read it. I write my books because I feel I have something to say, something I want to share with others.

So I was soon frustrated by all the rejection slips and I often had crises about why I was writing at all, whether I should try to write more "popular" work, try to chase the market etc. etc.

I finally found moderate success with three non-fiction books that sold well (for their genre), and that encouraged me to go ahead and self-publish my novels. Some of these have done comparatively well (nothing like your success, but consistently in the top 10% and occasionally in the top 1% of amazon sales.) Your story encourages me to believe that I made the right choice, and if I ever have a truly great book I will find the market for it.

You story reminds me of my motto: The telling of good deeds is like alms and charity. It is never lost labor, but always has its reward. Chandos' Herald, ca. 1385.

Thank you for sharing your story and your journey Neil. When something bad or we perceive as bad, we often think, 'it's over for me' or 'that's it I quit'. Ginger Myrick (gingermyrick) | 20 comments Work of Art Love & Murder in 19th Century New York by Ginger Myrick My NEW RELEASE!! Work of Art is romantic historical suspense.

Every girl dreams of a handsome Prince Charming to whisk her away to a fairytale ending. For Del Ryan it seemed unlikely, but that’s exactly what happened.

In 1874, New York booms with prosperity and conspicuous consumption with a clear social divide between classes. Del Ryan, an intelligent and talented Irish immigrant, works as a lady’s maid for a society matron. Although plain and unassuming, she is an accomplished artist with the gift of clairvoyance. She meets Killian Arthur, a golden Greek god from a privileged New York family. Fascinated by her, Killian transforms Del into a fine lady, the toast of her new class of friends.

But things are not always what they seem. Rough Irish Jimmy Sheehan has always thought of Del as his own and warns her that there is something not quite right about her suitor. Is he simply jealous, or does he want the best for the woman he loves?

Then the fairytale takes a violent turn when girls from Del’s neighborhood start turning up dead. Del witnesses the murders through her disturbing visions and realizes that with each new victim, the killer is getting closer. Will his identity be revealed before he comes for her?

I wrote a literary horror novel about creatures known as "shroud eaters," a cross between ghouls and vampires, set entirely in Venice (where I live). It's called "A Beast in Venice." Check out my webstie to learn about me, and what I'm working on.

Thanks

Michael E. Henderson
