Question: how does book swap work
date
newest »

I've never participated in one but I would imagine you would list the books you are willing to swap and the ones you are interested in getting and see if any of your books match up with someone elses? I am interested in the idea but I also have never done one so Im not sure if I'm missing something.

How does bookmooch do mailing cost? Is it like Paperbackswap that lets you pay for postage online so you dont have to go to the post office?

Here is the info from PaperbackSwap:

1. Are they "even swaps"? Example, Jane wants to read a book Sally has. Sally sends Jane the book. Does Sally now have to pick one of Jane's books?
2. Do you return the books when you are done or just add them to your swapable books collection?
Dumb, huh. Probably questions coverd on the swap websites but I am being lazy.
On paperbackswap and book mooch they are not 'even swaps'.
You list your books.
everyone else has listed their books. When you see one of their books that you like you request it. They send it. When you recieve it you log back on and acknowledge that you got it then they get a credit for it. The book is yours for good (or until you swap it).
When someone requests a book from you and you send it the do the same thing and when they mark they recieve it you get a credit towards another book.
Hmmmm that sounds complicated but I hope it made sense.

anyone can print out postage on the internet using the USPS site. I ship my books media mail, so it's anywhere from $2.25 to $2.50 per book to ship depending on the region.
Bookmooch had a fairly large international clientele, so you can spell out in your profile your willingness or unwillingness to ship internationally.
I'm really pleased with Bookmooch. I've sent 11 books, and have recieved 9, with 4 more on the way.
Does GR have an organized bookswap. Cupcake and I want to swap books but both are clueless as to how GR Bookswap works.
Anyone know?
