Jess | 104 comments I made a comment like this already, but I really hate it when the author tries to push an agenda. For instance, James Patterson was shoving the whole "global warming" junk down my throat all through The Final Warning. Totally put me off the series.

Um, what do you mean? (who cares if you've told it before?)

Jess | 104 comments What do I mean about pushing an agenda?

It's when an author writes a book for the more or less sole purpose of teaching "the masses" something. It's fine to have your opinions in the book, but pushing an agenda is preachy, ruins the story, is condescending and super-annoying. Basically it's saying that the story (as in characters, plot, etc) doesn't matter, the moral is the only thing that matters. In my opinion, that's bad writing.

Ah, I see. *nods emphatically* You are right. I like stories to have a moral but if there's nothing else to read then I'd rather read Greek philosophers! (They are pretty interesting AND some of them put their point accross through good stories)

Jess | 104 comments Pushing an agenda= one of my pet peeves. I think it ruined the Max Ride series.

Haven't read them. From that author I've read "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and I liked it but I gather that the rest of his work are not so good...

Jess | 104 comments He's a hit-and-miss author. I liked Max until he went all "environut" then I stopped reading him.

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

Ouch. I get it. That's too bad...

Danielle | 3 comments I always have trouble writting first person stories in general. I have trouble using the words I, my, mine ect ect when I'm not talking about myself or writting dialogue

Jess | 104 comments Really? I think it's way easier, because you can pretend to be the character and write from there. I feel like 1st is really good to get a good voice going.

I only read Angel Experiment, but Max just...bugs me. I'm not quite sure why, but she does.
