Jamie! I love going to Museums. I wish I had acess to travelling the world so that I could visit more museums. I have always wanted to go to the Holocaust Museum. World War II and the Holocaust have always fascinated me.I have enjoyed all of the Museums I have visited. I have visited the Field Museum in Chicago, The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, The Detroit Art Institute, the Galleries D'art Beauchamp in Quebec City,The National Galley in London, and the British Museum.
Of those, I really enjoyed the British Museum. The architecture is breathtaking. As is the Louvre's architecture. I didn't go inside the Louvre though because I was only in Paris for the day and there was a huge line. I really regret that.
I am going to check out that blog now Jamie! :)
My favorite museum that I've ever been to is the Philbrook in Tulsa. I went to an Impressionist exhibit at a museum in Fort Worth a couple of years ago. We also hit up the Modern art museum in Fort Worth. Most of the stuff in there was quite awful, but I had so much fun going through with my dad who made the most fantastic comments (at one piece that was essentially a glass jewelry counter, he circled it a couple of times and then asked if there was a fart in it or something and at another piece that was a shapeless sculpture that had paint flicked all over it, I heard him whispering "Take a sip of beer, flick the paintbrush." It was great)I'm actually going to start working one day a week at another favorite museum--the Frank Phillips Mansion in Bartlesville.
I know none of these compare with the Met etc but I don't really care. I think the only museum I haven't gone to that I really want to is the Smithsonian.
I am going to risk sounding very old here.....
I am in a musuem, well my picture is. Recently the old school in the town I grew up in opened up as a museum. They have class photos of all the classes that attended school there, clear back as far as they could find them. The school opened in the late 1800's or early 1900's.
I actually did attend Kindergarten there. It was the first year they had built the new elementary school, but it wasn't finished so they kept the K classes and the 6th grade classes at the old school.

Very cool Tami. I lived near DC until I was about 7 and visited pretty frequently until middle school so I have a fondness for all DC museums. I remember walking around and just being amazed at all the history that surrounded me. I haven't yet visited the Spy museum but I really want to. Also they aren't technically museums but I've always liked visiting the civil war battle fields and historical reenactments.
I love museums! I don't go to them as often as I would like too.A couple of years ago my cousin and I spent eight hours in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I think we saw almost every single exhibit, painting, sculpture, etc.
I've been to the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in St. Augustine. That was certainly interesting.
I want to go to the Boston Museum of Science this summer. I think the last time I was there was on a field trip in middle school!
Jen, I love Ripley's! (I live in St. Augustine). I also like the one in Gatlinburg, TN. It never gets old.I desperately want to go to the Louvre. There's just so much good stuff there, I'm sure it would take me days to get through it.
The Louvre is amazing, but I really didn't like the Egyptians/Roman/old civilizations part. The Greek section is worth it due to Venus, otherwise I'd stick to the main sculptures gallery and the paintings :)
Ooh definitely want to go to the Louvre...good thing I'll be studying abroad in France in a couple years. My favorite museum is probably the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC...I like modern art best, especially pop art (Warhol and the like). When I was at MoMA last winter, they had a Tim Burton exhibit, which was really awesome.
Yeah, it was fantastic! It had all these drawings from when he was younger, and all of his movie stuff, including the whole Edward Scissorhands outfit. We weren't allowed to take pictures though :(
I, too, love museums. I didn't like them as much when I was younger (except the Int'l Spy Museum in DC, I remember loving that one).I've made a pact with myself for my upcoming move to New York: every other weekend I will reserve one day for a museum (with some museums requiring more than one visit, of course). That is, unless I have an overhelming amount of studying to do that weekend..
Now, museums can be very expensive, but luckily with my student ID I will have FREE access to 32 NYC museums. This is nothing short of a museum lover's dream. I'm just wondering why my undergrad institution didn't have a similar deal (Boston-area has some pretty cool museums as well).
I love museums! I am actually in the Museum Studies program at my university. My life goal is to become a museum director. I would say one of my favorite museums is the Field Museum in Chicago. But I also saw an awesome Harry Potter exhibit at the Science and Industry museum in Chicago last summer.
I love musems! My favourite ones are in my hometown (Antwerp): the Rubenshuis and the Rockoxhuis. They're museums that are in 17th century houses that Rubens (the painter) and Rockox (a mayor and friend of Rubens) lived in. It's not just paintings, it's the house itself, furniture and statues. Love love love. Another favourite is the Uffizi in Firenze, their collection is absolutely amazing. Firenze has many smaller ones, it's probably the best city for museums, in my opinion. In NYC I love the Frick collection and the Morgan library & museum. I'm not sure it counts as a museum, but the Library of Congress in DC is great. In Paris my favourite's the Louvre and just outside of Paris the Versailles palace is simply fantastic. I would do anything to live there. In Berlin you have several museums that are dedicated to World War II and the Berlin Wall - while not pleasant to visit, they're very interesting. I've been too many others, but those are my favourites.
I came across this really amazing website earlier, Art Project by Google. It has a bunch of museums from all around the world and you can view artwork and explore the different museums (like Google Maps..only you're in the museum). If you like museums then this is such a great website: Google Art Project
I love that website! I just recently discovered it the other day and I think that it is amazing! I keep telling everyone I know about it and then feeling like a big nerd when they say "That's nice...why are you telling me this?" :)

I loved the Louvre! I also like the Met in NYC, pretty much every Smithsonian museum, the Philadelphia Museums of Art, and probably a few others that I'm missing. I found the Holocaust Museum very moving.
The magazine I work for started a blog that lists exhibits at different museums so I've been getting excited about some exhibits near me and wishing I could fly to others!!
Some near me:
Icons of Costume: Hollywood's Golden Era and Beyond sounds fascinating and it's 5 minutes away from my house at the Michener Museum.
National Design Triennial: Why Design Now? exhibit at the National Design Museum.
The blog is http://inthemuseums.blogspot.com/ if you want to see if there are any near you. There will be more added.
