Jess | 3721 comments I just saw the newest preview today, here is the link where I saw it: http://www.mugglenet.com/app/news/sho...

What does everyone think about it?

I personally have disliked all the other movies with the exception of the first one. But I have to say, this one looked pretty amazing. I hope it doesn't end up sucking!

message 2: by Megan (new)

Megan I thought it looked really good. Do you know when the release date is? I can't wait to see it.

message 3: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I've actually really enjoyed the movies, as long as I don't let myself for one minute think that they are going to be anywhere near as good as the books! But it's been about 2 years or so since I last read/listened to the books. Maybe it's time for a re-read! The only problem with that is the audio books take me over a month to get through them, and that's listening to them 40 hours a week at work!

I am re-reading these books right now and I agree with you about the length, the last one I read #5 had 23 discs. Took me most of the week. I have the next one on it's way to me and know it will take me a long time.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Thanks for the clip Jess, I am with you not a real fan of the movies. IMO the first movie is the only one that stayed true to the books. I think the other ones cut out much needed scenes.

AT first I hard they were going to make the last book two movies is this true still?

About the books on tape my son loves them. I love the reader Jim Dale I think he is just perfect!

message 6: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Dawn - yes, the movie is still being split into 2 parts. The clip is from Part 1.

This is the only reason I have a little bit of hope that it might not be terrible. Since the length of the book is being split, less details will be left out.

Although in the clip you hear Ron yelling at Harry that he doesn't know what it feels like because his parents are already dead and they start fighting. I could have sworn it was Harry that said his parents were dead, and there was no fistfight.

Little things like that irk me. Just stick to the way the book was written. It was phenomenal as it is.

@Megan - I believe the release date for Part 1 is November 10 2010

message 7: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments @ Jess, you know I was looking at that scene thinking is that what happened I need to read the books again LOL. I am with you I hate when movies change characters, I am like duh I liked them for a reason.

I have not read this series since it first came out that was what 2007/08? I think I may wait for the movie then reread and see if that helps me to like it more!

message 8: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I just re-read the last one a few days ago, but there's so much that goes on, I wasn't sure if I was remembering the scene correctly. But I think I am lol.

Yeah, the Dumbledore that is in the movies is NOT like the book Dumbledore. And for that matter, the movie Snape is actually sort of nice sometimes, while book Snape is not lol.

message 9: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am so HP obsessed. I have read each book 3 or 4 times, listened to all of them on audio and my family owns all the DVDs so I cannot even count how many times I have seen the movies.

The movies are not as good as the books, but I do enjoy seeing them and get very excited when a new release is coming and then again when it is about to be released on DVD. But I still plan to listen to these on audio again closer to the release date. Likely I will just start with #5. I have too much other stuff I want to read, but listening to audio is a good way to get them in and I think the audio performance is fabulous. :)

I actually thought #3 was one of the better movies. I really hate how the movies downplay Hermione's importance to the books and play her as a snivvelling complaining girl. I was also very dissapointed about concerning the scene where Dumbledore is killed -- it was changed in so many key ways. :(

Off to watch the clip ... thank you!

message 10: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh my gosh it looks so good.

message 11: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie | 54 comments Regina - I agree about the last movie I wanted the big fight scene at the end the fact that Harry wasn't frozen my daughter and I were screaming at the screen and was very disappointed also with the extra scene they put in at the Burrow and no funeral.
I would have to say that the last movie was my least favorite because of the Major changes they made.
I am looking forward to the next 2 movies I wish we didn't have to wait so long for them though!
I also watched that clip and thought wow I need to reread that book!

message 12: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yes the end scene was completely counter to the character of Harry. Harry would fight, he reacts and doesn't think -- that is why D had to freeze him. Instead he ended up looking like a wimp. And this is a character that has gone against V how many times and at much younger ages? Doesn't make sense that he wouldn't defend someone he loves.

The scene at the Burrow was so stupid. Why couldn't the wizards put OUT the fire? LOL, we all know they know that spell.

I worry about what they will do to the wedding ....... wait, how can they have the wedding? I forgot (and now I have to rewatch) but did they have fleur and bill engaged at the end of HBP?

message 13: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Regina, I don't think they did have them engaged. I don't remember that, I don't remember Bill even being in the movies. Although, I only watch each one once, so I don't remember all that much.

message 14: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think you are right, b/c I remember my 10 year old and I discussing this issue (she was 9.5 at the time). That was such a key turning event. If no engagement -- will they just spring the wedding on the audience? That is so important for the fall of the ministry and the coup -- and then fleur/Bill's house is where Ron goes to hide and then Harry/Hermion join him to regroup. Ugh!

Yeah.. and the Weasley's house burned down right? So where will they have the wedding?

message 16: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh yes! LOL. I remember being upset about that big complication.

message 17: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yeah, that's why I can't stand the movies lol.

message 18: by Kelley Anne (last edited Jun 08, 2010 03:03PM) (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments You are really making me want to start re-listening to the entire series tonight! FYI - for those of you that have never heard the audio books, they are a must try!!! I LOVE audio books, but these ones are by far the most enjoyable/fun books to listen to. Jim Dale does such a phenominal job!

Between that, getting side tracked on both the Nilini Singh and the Lora Leigh series, all of my plans for book challenges this month have gone right out the window!

No mention at all of Bill and Phlems wedding that was another part of the last one that left out!

My daughter and I went to that movie with my mother who hasn't read the books and my daughter and I kept freaking out over everything that was wrong that my mother said she'll never go to a movie with us again if we've read the book LOL

message 20: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I went to the last one with my cousin and my parents and my cousin and I had both read the book, by my parents hadn't. They had to keep asking us what was going on. They were a bit lost because some things just aren't explained well enough in the movie!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) I haven't read or watched them in a while, I might have to give them a reread if the film is coming out soon.

The Prisoner of Azkaban is my fave film. The first two are my least fave as I think they try to stick to the books too much and sometimes I don't think what is right in a book is necessarily right for a film.

But I think the books are better then the films, and sometimes when I watch the films I think they assume people have read the books as they do things without explaining it.

When I read Dumbledores death I actually had tears in my eyes, especially with the funeral and then Fawkes singing, but I didn't think the films quite had that edge of sorrow that the books did which was disappointing.

Maybe the directors are assuming that people have read the books, and therefore they don't have to go into as much detail?

I think that's dumb. But I'm not a multi-million dollar director either lol.

I don't think the film got the emotion of Dumbledore's death. I didn't even tear up in the movie, but the book I was SOBBING.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) Me too, I was actually in shock that he was dead I had to reread that chapter a couple of times to get t through my head!

Snapes death was the same I loved his character, I thought he was good, I went to hating him to sympathising him to admiring him a bit. I think Alan Rickman plays him quite well.

message 26: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I don't really like the way Snape is portrayed in the movies. He seems too nice! I think the first movie he was terrific, and then as the movies went on, I don't know. He wasn't as "Evil" as he was portrayed in the book. Maybe Rickman read the book and figured out where the character was headed and it affected his acting. I don't know. Or maybe I'm just TOO picky :)

message 27: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Ok this is a little off topic but I really noticed it from this clip. I waited to see if anyone else thought the same thing, but since no one has brought it up I will.

What to do think about the actors playing the core 3? I thought when they were younger the actor playing Harry was cute, but now, ahhhhh, not so much. While Ron, is the opposite way. Hermione has gotten prettier, but for me the big difference is in the boys.

message 28: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments lol Darcy, I was wondering what happened to Daniel Radcliff's neck span! His neck looks abnormally large, I think he's been lifting too many weights and trying to catch up to Ron's size.

I agree, Daniel was much cuter when he was younger and Ron was a little dorky. Now Ron is pretty good looking.

Hermione was like an ugly duckling too! I had friends of mine (who are completely perverted) and they were making bets when the first movie came out that she would end up "hot". I guess they were right lol.

You are right about the neck. There was just something off about him. It is almost like when you go to a funeral and the body is so waxy and fake, but he is still living so I wasn't sure why he looked so awful.

message 30: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I agree with you, he does look a little funny.

I have to say though, Hermione and Ron looked really cute together when they were on that beach scene and he was hugging her.

I think it's the hair matching, and the fact that he's so tall. Who would have thought he would have ended up looking the way he does now.

message 31: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Ron and Hermione do look cute together.

I did think it was funny in the one scene with Harry kissing Ginny and she was 2 inches taller than him, just made me chuckle.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) I have never really liked Daniel Radcliffe, he has no acting ability, at first it was kind of cute when he was younger but as he gets older it is just annoying. I love Ron though, I think Rupert Grint is very handsome and cute and he can act! I also like Hermione she is very pretty. They are very cute together.
