Stick Image | 5 comments A guy stumbles upon a pub(I believe in London) that he really shouldn't have and learns about people that can traverse dimensions.

I believe there were flying ships. The cover shows the main character sort of dressed in renaissance gear but is weilding a submachine gun. He is either kneeling or standing with a leg up on the bow of a ship.

The bad guys are called "wolves" and they look like men but are more feral/beastly on the inside. They are like the "bad" dimension travellers.

I know this is all very vague but it was a long time ago I read it. Loaned it to a friend and he lost it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Doesn't exactly match but ... maybe Callahan's Crosstime Saloon or one of the other books in that series?

Stick Image | 5 comments Thanks for the try. While I was researching I came across that one as well. Unfortunately, it isn't it.

Dawn | 220 comments What about Larry Niven's The Draco Tavern? Not exactly a match, either....but sort of fits.

Stick Image | 5 comments Ah thanks for the attempt dawn, but no. I guess I should have clarified that this is a full blown novel, not a collection of short stories.

Well, while on the kick--there are also Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille which is not a collection of short stories, btw.

I know that there are at least another couple books, but I can't come up with their names right now. But check out Cowboy Feng

This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For Cowboy Feng's was my first guess as well.

Stick Image | 5 comments Thanks for the guess. Still not it though. Let me rephrase the mood of the novel to the best of my memory.

A guy is wandering around a city... If memory serves me, he stumbles upon a door to a pub through some frightening event ( A murder or a robbery) he enters the pub and is pulled into a series of events involving a group of villains known as "wolves"

He is pulled into a battle/war against these guys.

It isn't lighthearted or slapstick, it's moody dark fantasy involving dimensional/time travel. It's written in a way that these "wolves" seem very mean and evil.

The pub is not the "central" theme of the story but more an initial doorway into this other world.

The cover I described is a very excellent representation of the book itself. Fantasy elements mixed with a modern thriller story. I do believe in the actual story there is a ship battle involving the wolves as a pirate like menace with boarding actions but also modern weaponry(IE: submachine guns assault rifles) and I do believe this ship battle takes place in the sky. A pirate ships in the clouds sort of scenario.

Mir | 802 comments Could it possibly be in one of Simon R. Green's Nightside series? There's a pub like you describe, although it isn't the main focus of the books, but the characters meet up there often and there are some important fights in the pub.

Stick Image | 5 comments Miriam, unfortunately not the one but that's definitely the closest we've come yet. On top of that I'm definitely going to read those books! :P

Harlequin Books (harlequinbooks) | 15 comments Forgotten Realms has something called the World's Serpent Inn. Does that sound familiar? If so, it has many different titles that it appears in.

Mir | 802 comments How about Lord Dunsany? Although in his stories it was a club rather than a pub...

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Did those have the dimension-traveling element, Miriam? I came across a reference to those and figured they didn't, but I haven't actually read them so I don't know.

Mir | 802 comments I haven't read them, either, just saw AC Clarke mentioned them.

Sent a PM. Hasn't been active except in this thread. If no response soon, the next Mod to read this can move it down to Abandoned.

The House Between The Worlds is another suggestion.
