Amanda (allee5) | 12 comments I don't really care for October Daye because the hero Tybalt have so little page time in every book and he is so NOT a decision maker. where is his alpha-ness?

another series that i'm very engross in is Karina Halle's Experiment in Terror featuring Dex and Perry. Although they are classified as horror, I think they are more like a paranormal genre.

Have you read "Ashes of Honor"? Tybalt has a lot more screen time in it and you see a lot more of his "alpha-ness" along with a look into his past.

Really? I have the whole series with me actually. But I stop somewhere during Book 3 or 4 because I lost interest in it.

Maybe I will give it another try.

I am not familiar with the Experiment in Terror books, but I looked them up. I will try the first one. Thanks for the recommendation, Amanda.

Me too! It sounds good. I like scary/creepy books. I hope it's not too much like a slasher movie, which I don't like. One review compared it to the X-Files, which intrigued me. It was free on Kindle, so definitely worth a try.

They are raving about this books in one of my other forums. Unfortunately, they are first person POV but are not out in audio yet. So will have to wait.

Is that how you do 1st person books? I like it for UF, but not so much for romance.

message 159: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Yes, audiobooks have helped my overcome this peeve. I found it impossible to read 1st person because I could never identify with the main character and get into the story (the "I" pronoun would distract me and I would "hear" my own voice rather than the character's).
Having the story read to me and associating the "I" with someone else's voice has allowed me to overcome this problem.

The " Sabina Kane" series.by Jaye Wells
The " Corine Soloman " series by Ann Aguirre's
The "Tara Sheridan" series by Alayna Williams.(She's an oracle who uses Tarot. I found it well done)

I just discovered "Written in Red" by Anne Bishop , it's book one of a new series. I really liked it.

message 167: by Dakota (new)

Dakota | 1 comments I have just read Helen Harper's Blood Destiny series, and fell in love with the main characters independent attitude. The series already has four books out, which is nice because I hate waiting on the edge of my seat for new installments in some of my current series.

message 168: by Aarati (new)

Aarati | 9 comments The Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones is also really good.

D. | 6 comments Don't know if this one has been mentioned or not but I just spent my summer vacation reading all the available books. Great series, especially if you enjoy the Mercy Thompson series.

The Sarah Beauhall series: http://www.goodreads.com/series/49841...

Dragons, blacksmiths, bards, dwarves, elves all wrapped up in a Wagnerian package. Great main character and supporting cast.

Temeritous | 5 comments Just finished book two in an awesome new series with two books (plus a prequel) out that I rank right up there with Ilona's Kate Daniels! First released book is Sleight of Hand , second (that is even better than the first, and the first was great) Hidden Trump . This author, Mark Henwick, is new but Wow! Kick-ass female main character who is still believable, tons of action, some romance, three-dimensional characters and side characters, intriguing, yet very believable world set in today's time with Vampires, Weres, and Adepts who are not "out" to the human public... yet. Highly recommend. I am as eagerly awaiting the next book in Henwick's series as I am the next Kate Daniels!!

(ETA: I have not read the prequel yet, but I just saw it is free on Amazon right now.) Hidden Trump (Bite Back 2) by Mark Henwick Sleight of Hand (Bite Back, #1) by Mark Henwick Raw Deal Raw Deal (Bite Back prequel) by Mark Henwick

message 172: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Smith | 3 comments I'm going with Patricia Briggs, any series, Jim Butcher's Dresden series, Nalini Singh Guild Hunter series as my top picks :D

message 173: by Mandy (new)

Mandy | 2 comments Ok this may already be up but Jim butcher's dresden files is basically the male version of kate. I enjoy the comedy in it and it has some pretty cool characters like the kate daniels series.

Another good one would be kim harrison's hollows series lots of fun to read.

Those are my top picks that are kinda like kate daniels series.

message 174: by Temeritous (new)

Temeritous | 5 comments Just finished another that I loved almost as much as Kate Daniels (and even more than my previous listed above!): Shades of Treason by Sandy Williams Shades of Treason . It is sci-fi with a slow-burn type romance, but definitely there, and reads much like an urban fantasy. The heroine is extremely kick-a$$ but still vulnerable; it has non-stop action and a hero bent on capturing her believing for first 2/3rds of book she is guilty. It's the first in a new trilogy, but no cliffhanger ending. Highly recommend. I cannot wait for the next 2!
