Hoping it'll be worth it!

I've read two in the Allie Beckstrom series and though I liked them overall, the magic descriptions are frustratingly repetitive. Also, Allie is a lil TSTL in the first book. She's got poor judgement.

I've read both, and I highly recommend Mercy Thompson highly, I've already read most of Allie Beckstom novels and recommend them also. Once you get past the fist book, it takes a little bit to get your head wrapped around it, once you do, then you're good to go.
I would also recommend the "Dark Hunter" Series this series has over 18 books in its primary series alone and then there are a few off shoots.
Also Meljean Brooks New Book "Riveted" is now for Pre-Sale order at Amazon, and the Cover image ( not available on amazon ) is on my Facebook page now. Just an fyi.

The walker papers books were very good! I agree! I believe I have read them all except maybe if there's been a new release in the last few months. And there' another short series by that author, I have the books but haven't finished them yet. Um.. trying to remember, I'll have to visit my shelves.
On a side note, that is one of the best, most wonderful features of good reads. I love their book shelves, the fact that we can keep all our books here with our friends reviews close by. It's a wonderful feature of this website

There is a latest release .... Raven Calls is the name if I'm right :)
Urban Shaman is the first book in the Walker Paper series. It's written by C.E. Murphy.

I really enjoyed Linda Robertson's books too - have you read the latest one released, Wicked Circle?? I haven't managed to get round to it yet.

Seanan McGuire's October Daye series (starting with "Rosemary and Rue"). Book one started out a bit confusing and slow to me, but I kept at them and they are one of my top 3 fave now, just get better and better as they go! Wonderful world-building and unique plots with slight romantic tension/angst between h and main H, which will hopefully turn into more soon!. Also Seanan Mcguire's newest release is "Discount Armageddon" and it is wonderful and hilarious at the same time, with more steamy romance than her October Daye (Rosemary and Rue) series, lighter, not quite as dark or gritty but still fantastic-- she really pulls off the storyline like you'd never expect with a ball-room-dance-loving monster-hunter. Really surprised and impressed me! Highly recommend both series!
LOVE Stacia Kane's "Downside Ghosts" series! Didn't think I would with the heroine being a drug addict, but she really makes us love both Chess, and Terrible. And great, unique world!
Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series (starts with "Skinwalker"). Tough, kick-ass heroine, action-packed, interesting plotlines with some mystery solving and good world-buildling, and romantic angst, although I'm ready for her to figure out who to be with in this next book hopefully!
Darynda Jones' "First Grave on the Right" has 3 books out so far and they are all great-- love the author's sense of humor and is pretty steamy-- can be a little bit confusing trying to piece together the vagueness of what's going on with the H at first, but really entertaining series with humor, angst, action, and suspense.
Carolyn Crane's "Mind Games" series. Enjoyed reading a series that actually had a good ending after only 3 books, too, instead of going on and on and on like so many UF series do nowadays. They typically get old to me and lose their creative freshness after about 7 books and I lose interest.
I really enjoyed "Grave Witch" by Kaylana Price and am looking forward to the next in the series, and also "Mark of the Demon" series by Diana Rowland (3 out so far), and "Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between" series by J.A. Saare (only 2 out so far with a 3rd later this year).
Aaaaaand last but most definitely NOT least: I just finished "Angelfall" by Susan Ee and oh my gosh-- I LOVED it! Talk about INTENSE! WOW!! I cannot WAIT for the next one out this summer!!!! Tough, pretty kick-ass but still vulnerable heroine, very tough, mysterious, bad-ass Hero; h and H start out hating each other pretty much at first and through much of book as they are enemies, but as they are reluctantly forced to work together they start seeing the "humanity" in each other just a little bit, and by the end... wow... just a killer, intense, emotional ending that will leave you very hopeful and pacing the floor waiting for the next installment. Edge-of-your-seat story and non-stop action, great world-buidling, very angsty, pretty horror-based almost in some areas of the story. Just very intense especially by the end! Cannot recommend it highly enough!!! Need more form this author! I have ranked this one, after just this first book, right up there with Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series as a MUST BUY series!!
I LOVED Moning's "Fever" series, at least the first 4... but I was really let down by the last one. WAY too convoluted, messy, confusing, and then CHEESY ending with what little she did explain, while leaving so much still left hanging. ************SPOILERS************ I understand she is writing another series in that world with Danny and others, but for as long a book as she made it, all the drama and mystery she put into the first 4, to then not leave us with a better story and better answers than a simple "book in the head, but hey oh well" type ending after all that, and then to also end it like a typical mushy, too perfect sounding to be true (after all the gritty reality of the first 4 and the "world that our world has now become")romance genre novel type ending with Barrons and Mac's family having BBQ's and eating pie and dancing around ending was too cheesy and shallow and a cop-out, IMO. AND the Highland men all fighting with each other when they should have been more concerned with the "end of the world as we know it" to be getting into petty, egotistical, bitch matches with each other while their wives and kids all came and baked together kind of crap, was too much (or too little/shallow). ***********END OF SPOILERS********** That last book really, really disgusted me towards the series. Such a cop-out. Moning fell back into her romance genre cheesy story ending writing, while making it very convoluted and not put together well, AND not even providing much in the way of answers after all our emotional investment and time into the series WAITING for those crazy-stupid cliff-hanger endings when that was SUPPOSED to be an Urban Fantasy book/series, not romance genre writing/arc. If I want the typical romance writing/plotline I'll look in that genre. ...Just had to get that off my chest! I like and want some romance, but I want a great story/plot as the main theme with a dash of well-done romance and angst on the side... Nor do I want just sex scenes or a dash of lame story to allow for an excuse for sex scenes, either.

Wow! Extensive list! I know most of the series and some are in my watch list (October Daye being the major one) Love kara gillian too ..... But unholy ghosts, angelfall and Dangerous mind isn't vibing with me yet ... Dnt know why... But I'll give it a go since the rest of the books you recommend are pretty much lined with mine ....
On an additional note, the Karen Chance Cassandra series is pretty decent (skeptical abt the love triangle but hey, just my opinion) though I haven't checked out the latest one ..... I like Christina Henry - Black Wing series .... There's also Jenna Black - Descendant series ... not yet hard core UF or anything but huge potential!
Books I also liked are Rachel vincent's Blood Bound (really interesting plot) Richelle Mead's new series - I know Golden Lily's the second book's name forgot the first one's () and oh yeah! if you are way more into the world building and overall plot Michelle sagara's In Cast series is good .... difficult in the beginning .... but worth it in the end I think!

I agree with you about Shadowfever. I really like the series even though I cannot stand Mac. But the last book (it was supposed to be the last before she decided to write the Dani series and more Mac books) left too many thing unexplained. I also think (view spoiler) was a bad joke. He is no romantic character. But I'd still recommend the series.

Thank you, Deepthy! I'm always trying to find the next great book or series, and since you have similar taste I'm excited to try those suggestions out!

Yeah, Sarah, I agree. I just warn people not to expect as much from the ending as I apparently did! :)
Good to know about Kare's book! I'll have to check it out!

But I only enjoyed it up to the end of the original story arc. The most recent book, Divine Misdemeanors, was shoddy writing.
I've sworn off both of LKH's series at this point.
I read the Merry Gentry series, even though it was poorly written, and nothing more than gang-bang sex. None of the characters were memorable, or even likable for that matter. I guess I kept hoping that the series was going to go somewhere, but it didn't. I still read the Anita Blakes - this was my first foray into the "Urban Fantasy" genre many years ago, and I need to see how it ends.
Moning's "Fever" series started out with a lot of promise, but just cascaded down into a pit of dispair. Book 5 was so pathetic I couldn't even finish it; there was only one other series I couldn't finish - Bank's "Night Huntress Legend" series. Getting through Book 1 of Bank's series was a feat that should be endured only by the most resolute of readers; Book 2 I only made it through Chapter 1 before I threw in the towel.
As far a October Daye, I love the series. It is well worth reading. Also, if you like October Daye, you will love Seanan's new Incryptid series, starting with "Discount Armageddon." It is hilarious - the girl is such a smart-ass, and she knows how to hold her own.
Other series I like are (and this is a small list):
Cassie Palmer and Midnight's Daughter (Karen Chance)
Kitty Norville (Carrie Vaughn)
Delilah Street (Carole Nelson Douglas)
Blood Singer (Cat Adams)
The Bloodhound Files (D. D. Barant)
Kara Gillian (Diana Rowland)
Jane Yellowrock (Faith Hunter)

I tend to agree that Anita Blake devolved into a sex fest. I don't personally like UF that are focused on sex-escapades. So I am cutting Anita Blake loose after Obsidian Butterfly.
The interesting thing is every series has devoted fans and readers that love and hate it. You just have to find what works for you.

I've just started the Mortal Instruments series and as of now I'm withholding my judgement *prays it'll be worth the time*

Speakings from experience i have a read the Mortal Instruments series (all released books so far)and i can honestly tell you it was not time wasted ^_^ great read really imaginative, good plot, witty dialogue...But not like the Kate series :$ probably since it's YA

The Bloodhound Files series doesn't get enough credit. I've really enjoyed what I've read so far & so has my husband.

I know it was a while ago, but maybe I'll have to give it another shot. Caught up in all hte series that I read and need something new to break up the backlog of nonfiction that I have. Any good completed series? I need to go back through some of the recommendations but a lot of them are for ongoing series and I'd like to get some closure to a series finally, haha.

You might also try:

I recently read 'The left hand of God' by paul Hoffman and Patrick rothruss 'The name of the Wind' both are fantasy and particularly good. Of the two the former is my perferred choice.
I assume you've read JR Ward's series?
Lastly, why not try 'The Liveship Trilogy'. Its a series where the story and the characters have stayed with me a long time.

Also did you enjoy the fourth in the mistborn series? I'm debating whether to get it or not.

I plan on reading In The Name of The Wind but I want to wait until the third book comes out. As for JR Ward, do you mean the Black Dagger Brotherhood? I haven't read it yet. Is it worth it?
Usually I don't have time to leisure read during the semester, but thankfully it's my last semester and I didn't have much left to take, so I've been looking for something to read. I've been thinking about reading Black Prism as it seems to have an interesting magic system, but I'd like something more contemporary which is partially why I enjoy series such as Kate Daniels, Dresden, or Rachel Morgan. I'll have to start skimming the books mentioned and find one that piques my interest.

Those 3 are in my top 5 UF series, Along with those are the Cassie Palmer books, first one is

I'd go with...
Cassie Palmer and the Dory books are excellent - Karen Chance
Mercy Thompson (and Alpha + Omega to a leser extent) Patricia Briggs
Anita Blake up to Obsidian Butterfly - LHamilton
The Night Angel Trilogy - Brent Weeks is excellent
I really like Mike Carey's - Felix Castor Books too - more of a UF detective than straight UF & set in the UK - no romance really.
The Mortal Instruments is excellent but definately YA.
Carrie Vaughn is fine as a light read
