I have read all of this Series. The terms "kid," "my boy", are used as endearments or to call attention to his lack of experience in his new field of employ. I had a Supervisor the called me "sweety" until I told her to quit. I wonder how long Simon will put up with these endearments.

I understand the use of them, Marilynn, it's just they feel so overused. I usually like terms of endearment like that, but not in this case. Since you've read the series so far, how do you like it?

They are entertaining and a good read for the dead time... nothing on boob tube/waiting for another book to come out by other Authors. You are right any endearment can be run into the ground..The interaction between the charactors can be rather funny or fustrating. Simon and his girlfriend are having a hard time of it; his partner is having a bad day as well. What to you expect when dealing with what they have to work with.

Once I'm finished with my current book I'll give the series another try. Either that or I'll take a break from UF and then come back to it. Thanks for the input. =]
The endearments do disappear in the last book. I think? Has been over a month from the time I read them.
If you want a similar author who I find to be awesome (if you're into seraphim, fallen angels, that sort of thing), try Thomas Sniegoski's Remy Chandler series. There aren't any kid characters to call "my boy," and his dog, Marlowe, is awesome ;-)

I really like this series. I have read the the first and second books and have the third on my list. If I remember, the first book did take a bit of warming up to but I really enjoyed it after I got into it. I love the idea of an agency with all it's mundane red tape being in charge of supernatural events in the city.

So if anyone has read the series, does this kind of thing last into the later books? It would be a shame to stop reading a good series because the first in it is terrible. However, if I get through this book and it's more of the same in the next books I'll be disappointed and a little annoyed at wasting the time reading them.
