I think this is the second book of a series, not too sure. read in 2006, did not finish/remember the whole thing. I just remember the beginning.

So this somewhat-young wizard is traveling, the journey is pretty quiet.. He has the ghost of from one of the previous book/s who is a good person and offers advice to the wizard.
