I'm in the process of trying to change industries. I got my degree in Accounting/Finance and Economics in 2005 and worked in that industry for about 5 years and really didn't like it very much. So now I'm back in school studying Applied Mathematics and Physics. I graduate (again) in May, then I want to get my masters in Applied Mathematics in 1 year, then I might go for my PhD in Physics. Right now I'm focusing on learning stuff in the field of Electromagnetism, which will eventually turn into studying a lot of Quantum level things.
I just got a job at one of the Labs at my university studying Quantum Cascade Lasers. So now I'm intensely learning how to program in this thing called LabVIEW. Interestingly it's the programming system they use at CERN to control the Large Hadron Collider in Europe and also national Instruments teamed up with Lego and their Mindstorms robots are run with an easier version of the LabVIEW program. (This was just something random I recently learned, thought I'd share.)
I've kept track of the pages I've been reading for a long time now. Due to the nature of my research and books I read, I'm going to start this from the number I have right now. I am not sure why we are handicapped to start in January 2010, since the goal is in a lifetime... Anyway, it takes me a long time to read books, I've only read 24 books so far in ALL of 2010 and it's only about 8,000 pages. I see some people doing that in a Month! I don't know how people do that... so anyway, that's what I'm doing.

You can count textbooks.

Wow, thanks! That would help considerably, actually.

I'm a student from Croatia, my majors are English language and literature and Comparative literature. I LOVE reading. I love spending my weekends reading.
good luck to all members of this group

Wow, that's pretty wild. I definitely couldn't pull off that kind of stuff.

I have a few questions: 1) When you said that page counts cannot go earlier than January of the year you joined, does that mean that I cannot count page numbers from books I read before January 2010?
2) Do you include pages numbers from children's books (either picture book or chapter book)?

I am not sure about your second question. I personally do not count children's picture books. I did count some of the old chapter books, well... the ones I could remember reading : P.
