★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments It is ok! My closet goes through phases when it comes to colors and it is absolutely jammed packed with a rainbow. In the fall/winter it was charcoal gray. Right now it is a maroon/dark red. But if I find something really awesome in orange I have to have it! (Especially sneakers!)

message 271: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Cool Meghan! I would love to look at my closet if it were a rainbow. :)

message 278: by Adam (last edited Sep 25, 2010 07:14PM) (new)

Adam | 88 comments Hi everyone.

I'm in the process of trying to change industries. I got my degree in Accounting/Finance and Economics in 2005 and worked in that industry for about 5 years and really didn't like it very much. So now I'm back in school studying Applied Mathematics and Physics. I graduate (again) in May, then I want to get my masters in Applied Mathematics in 1 year, then I might go for my PhD in Physics. Right now I'm focusing on learning stuff in the field of Electromagnetism, which will eventually turn into studying a lot of Quantum level things.

I just got a job at one of the Labs at my university studying Quantum Cascade Lasers. So now I'm intensely learning how to program in this thing called LabVIEW. Interestingly it's the programming system they use at CERN to control the Large Hadron Collider in Europe and also national Instruments teamed up with Lego and their Mindstorms robots are run with an easier version of the LabVIEW program. (This was just something random I recently learned, thought I'd share.)

I've kept track of the pages I've been reading for a long time now. Due to the nature of my research and books I read, I'm going to start this from the number I have right now. I am not sure why we are handicapped to start in January 2010, since the goal is in a lifetime... Anyway, it takes me a long time to read books, I've only read 24 books so far in ALL of 2010 and it's only about 8,000 pages. I see some people doing that in a Month! I don't know how people do that... so anyway, that's what I'm doing.

message 279: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 273 comments I use to work with Lego teaching people how to use the robots back when I was in college. Good luck.

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments hey everyone!! I just saw this group mentioned over on the Recommend a Featured Group Thread and thought I would check you out...i'm a total sucker for challenges and can always be found with a book or my kindle in hand and usually reading multiple books at once. I'm in the navy and stationed in DC right now. I'm also work on my PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, so reading is my break from the insanity...looking forward to some fun. I'll post my page count when I get a chance

message 281: by Shay (new)

Shay | 862 comments Adam, I read about 15,000 pages a month. I've always been a fast reader. I took 18-22 credits a semester in college, got my BA in 3 years, my masters in 1 1/2 years. Some days I read 2,000 pages a day. Once I took 4 upper division literature courses in a semester, must have read over 100 books that semester just for those 4 classes.

message 291: by Ronyell (new)

Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) | 142 comments Hello! I'm Ronyell and I have joined this group because I love to challenge myself! I am currently attending grad school and majoring in Business Administration! I love reading all kinds of books, mainly children's books and romance novels.

I have a few questions: 1) When you said that page counts cannot go earlier than January of the year you joined, does that mean that I cannot count page numbers from books I read before January 2010?
2) Do you include pages numbers from children's books (either picture book or chapter book)?

message 292: by Adam (new)

Adam | 88 comments I don't know about other people, but since the word "lifetime" is used, I am adhering to this. So I count books prior to 2010. Since I'm 28, that's a good chunk of my page count. I am not sure why the 2010 mark was chosen, despite the name of the group using the word "lifetime".

I am not sure about your second question. I personally do not count children's picture books. I did count some of the old chapter books, well... the ones I could remember reading : P.

message 293: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments for me personally, i've never really tracked books I've read until this year and while I know I've read lots, I didn't have any thing to track...so that is why I opted to start in January 2010...

message 294: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Hello Georgia and Ronyell! Thanks for joining and enjoy the group! :D

message 295: by Ronyell (new)

Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) | 142 comments Thanks Zakiya!!

message 296: by Shay (new)

Shay | 862 comments I think if I counted my lifetime total, it would be about 4-5 million pages, not including picture books. I read less now than I did 10 years ago and I read about 15,000 pages a month now.

message 297: by Ronyell (new)

Ronyell (rabbitearsblog) | 142 comments Thanks everyone!! I think I'll just include mainly chapter books rather than picture books or comic books, because some of the picture books and comic books don't have page numbers and if I have to do a page count on each book I read, the book must have at least over 100 pages for me to count it. So, I'll include some children's books that are chapter books and maybe I might include some graphic novels, but I'm not sure about that yet, so we'll see!

message 298: by Adam (new)

Adam | 88 comments Yeah, I don't count my comic books or graphic novels either. When it comes to graphic novels, those are usually numbered, but if one of yours isn't, you can usually find the page count online somewhere like Amazon or Goodreads. Most comics are either 32 or 28 pages though, but I don't really count those either.
