Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Fill me in here????

message 103: by Sherri (new)

Sherri (sherrij2003) | 170 comments Puck is from Glee the TV show.

message 104: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Oh.... No wonder I've never heard of him :)

message 105: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Meyerhoefer | 3 comments My husband and I are new to GoodReads. We are still adding books. We have catalogued 1300 books. Our best estimate is we have 5000-6000 books. Assuming 200 pages per book 1,000,000 pages is 5000 books, we probably have both reached the goal years ago.

We have neither read all of the others books, I am not a big fan of mysteries and he doesn't like science fiction/fantasy (Not to mention the Wittgenstein/Pragmatism rift in the house).

message 106: by Sherri (new)

Sherri (sherrij2003) | 170 comments Well when you put into that perspective...this is gonna take forever!!! 5000 books, shesh!

message 107: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Heather and Katie! I'm glad you found this group.

I know right. I'll have dentures and be in diapers (again) by the time I finish this goal. Whew! I'm ready to take the challenge!

Robyn, Brianna, Cynthia & Husband. Thanks for grabbing the bandwagon by the wheels and jumping on!

Ladies, I had no idea who Puck was either. I tried watching Glee once and couldn't handle it.

message 109: by Tracy T. (new)

Tracy T. | 69 comments Hi everyone. I'm Tracy, I live in NJ, and I'm 26 years old. If I counted the books over my lifetime, I'm probably very close to this goal already, due to my nature to devour books and the fact that I have a degree in literature.

I really love the idea of this group. Time to go back and find all the books I read this year!

message 110: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Good luck Tracy!, And everyone else as well!

Thanks for joining to all our new members :))

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for supporting this idea and this group!

Good luck to you and all (and me)!!!

message 112: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Lol! Yes, the best of luck to everyone, including myself and of course Elyssa. :)

I should mention that I am 44 and he is 52. So it does not seem like a lot to us. If you figure that we started reading longish books at 10, 5000 books over 35 years is 140 books a year so a new 200 page book every 2-3 days. Plus college and graduate school and the pages add up in no time. Just wait until you are older it won't seem so daunting.

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

My goodness. Were we supposed to read in college?

My favorite quote from a friend... "I'm in college. I don't have time to read".

I have to agree. I put homework on the back burner so I can read. A few assignments have been passed up because of this. But I also pick and choose which ones I decide to ignore ;)

message 115: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bky2009) Hello, all. My name is Rebecca (Becca) and I'm an avid reader:)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Hahas, hello Rebecca! Like Elyssa said, welcome to the group. I hope you enjoy it here!

Lyss: Are you sure you're okay?? It's not possible to skip assignments for me. I have a worrysome conscious...

Cynthia: Wow. . .that's just. . .wow. Lol :)

message 120: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Oh and Elyssa: One - the period goes inside the quotation mark. Two - That's a good quote! :)

message 127: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Heather for pointing Rocio in the right direction.

Welcome to the group, I'm glad you accepted the invite.

Rocio, you can just post the books you remember or start from today. Which ever makes you more comfortable. This is a personal goal. We just created a group to support each other in a good way!

message 128: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Agree with Elyssa! Just start with today, or you can participate in the challenges to get you reading more. We're basically here to support each other's reading. Thanks for joining our group; have a good time! :)

message 129: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for agreeing, LOL!

*Otherwise I'd have to come and hide all of your books!*

message 130: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) *That wouldn't be a good thing, so I'm glad I agreed as well!*

Have you taken the speed reading test? Go to the "Heather's Dementia" topic and take it; she left a link. I got 157 wpm! :))

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

message 132: by Zakiya (new)

Your welcome:D You just start with the books you've read as of this year. It's a lifetime goal because one million pages is quite a challenge! I'm not doing too hot right now but hopefully I'll live long enough to finish *cross fingers*

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

We are supportive. We will make it! It just means that you will have to stand us for years. :)

I'm personally looking forward to the huge party I'll throw when I meet this goal!

message 135: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I'm completely okay with it--as long as I get invited! And putting up with our craziness is a good thing. It means you have something to look forward to. And we bring good luck :)

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

We are good luck charms.

And you are so invited! We will be done close together we can have a double party!

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

And everyone else who finishes should throw big party's to celebrate! Ah... I can see the dancing already! :)

message 138: by Zakiya (last edited Jun 14, 2010 08:27AM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Ooh, it sounds like an awesome party! We're gonna need a really big space, and a lot of food, and we're going to have to get the invitations ready starting in a few weeks cuz there will be so many people.... *keeps babbling* :D

message 139: by [deleted user] (new)

I know what you mean!

message 140: by oıɔoɹ/rocio♥ (new)

message 141: by Christine (new)

Christine (cdunbar) | 113 comments Hello! My name's Christine and I thought 'what the heck?' to counting pages since I'm already counting them for an on-going challenge in another group. Besides, it'll be fun!

So... I'm going to backtrack my page count and create a log now. :)

message 142: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, it should be fun!

(especially the after party)

message 143: by Shannon (last edited Jun 16, 2010 12:02PM) (new)

Shannon | 31 comments Hello! I joined here a while ago and nevewr seemed to get around to posting. So I'll try and make up for that now. I'm 26, I'm a speech therapist who works in a school, and summer is my favorite time of year. I rarely get to read during the school year so I make up for it now (while I still can). I love books and my Nook is my favorite thing I own! I'm gonna try and go back to Jan of this year and start adding up all pages.

message 144: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello again Shannon. So, happy to see you here.

message 145: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Hi Shannon, once again! Hope to see you around soon in the future! :)

message 146: by Catrina (new)

Catrina (ninasama) Hi, I'm Catrina! I'm a 26 year old Japanese teacher from Southern California and I am obsessed with reading. It is my goal to read 50 books this summer, though it might be hard to accomplish as I am getting married next week. (I don't think the hubby would appreciate me reading too much during the honeymoon.) I like to read books pretty much about anything but am a sucker for those about Asia, historical novels and young adult fairy tale retellings. My favorite books are the Harry Potter 1-7, the Thursday Next series and Kitchen. My favorite authors are Banana Yoshimoto, Haruki Murakami, Pearl S Buck and Jasper Fforde. My newest reading interest is steampunk novels; I love Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series! Anyway, super excited I found this group!

message 147: by [deleted user] (new)

If you like books about Asia you might want to try Bangkok Tattoo. He paints a wonderful picture of Bangkok. (I miss it so.)

I love Gail too!! Waiting for Blameless to come Out! I just got a book, Steamed (Steampunk Romance, #1) by Katie MacAlister Steamed by Katie MacAlister.

message 148: by [deleted user] (new)

I almost forgot to welcome you. Thanks for finding us and joining. Hopefully, you can enjoy yourself here.

Jen (In the Closet With a Bibliophile) (Jen_thebibliophile) | 133 comments Catrina! Welcome! and I'm so glad you love Gail as much as I do. I have flown through her Soulless and Changeless and cannot wait for Blameless and then of course Heartless. :D

Glad you joined our group!
