message 614: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi there, I'm Zanahoria, from Argentina. Been reading quite voraciously since I was around 8. Started by trying to sate some idle curiosity about greek myths, and was devouring fantasy and horror a month later. I just never stopped.
Beyond that, I love singing and dancing, biking, drawing. Cooking and jogging are enjoyment, therapy and meditation all rolled into one as far as I'm concerned.
I'm studying Architecture. Want to travel. Miss having a dog and a big garden. And access to my old library. But still love my apartment and independence.

message 615: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Welcome, Zanahoria!

message 616: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks :D
Question: What do I do about the books I've read more than once?

message 617: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I count the pages again, but if you don't feel like you should count them again, then you don't have to.

message 618: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I would count them twice. You read them more then once but each time should count!

message 619: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (cstienen) | 6 comments Sorry if this is already answered somewhere and I just didn't see it, but do you count graphic novels / manga? I had an obsession my first few years of college and I also use them to help practice my Japanese.

message 620: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I count every manga I read :). So yes, you can.

message 621: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (cstienen) | 6 comments Thanks for answering. :) Okay, formal introduction now:

My name is Carrie, I'm living in Japan currently and I've been reading since... always I think. I'm a university student. I study math and computer science. I love reading fantasy, science fiction, graphic novels, and the occasional classic. The best book I've read in the last few weeks is Divergent.

message 622: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all! My name is Suzanne, and I'm a proud Mama of 2 little ones, aged 4 and 5. Right now I'm a SAHM, but I'm currently looking for a job, so hopefully I'll be employed sooner than later in an office position. :)

I've been reading for as long as I can remember. My parents are both readers and so is my sister and my Maternal Grandmother, so it just runs in the family. I love, love, love mysteries. I think the Nancy Drew series got that started for me, and now I just can't get enough! But, I'll read just about anything but sci-fi and non-fiction. I REALLY have to be in the mood for either one of those. And typically I'll only read YA sci-fi, because anything else just goes right over my head.

I've been doing the Million Pages thing by myself since May, when I saw someone else doing it, but I'm excited to have a group to do it along with. :) It's ALOT of pages, and I'm only at just under 17k, so I've still got a LONG ways to go! :)

Barbara VA (barbarava) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Barbara VA and I am looking forward to this! As I am already 57 and I figure well over half of my lifetime is done I can add at least my 2012 books to the list! I have read 80 books and 22585 pages. I expect to do 85 next year. Game on!

message 631: by Jenny (new)

Jenny Gendel (jennychicago) | 53 comments HI all. I'm Jenny and live in the Chicago area. I'm under 30 and think this is an awesome goal. Im a big reader, a girl scout leader, a knitter (saw someone else was a knitter), and working on my cooking skills this year. I got a e-reader in June last year, and can't stop putting books on it. Time to read some of them. For my personal challenge I plan on only using books that were also paper published, and the mass market copy if available towards my points total. I'm a big fan of audio versions of books because I can knit and read at the same time, combining two of my favorite past times.

message 632: by Meri Kate (new)

Meri Kate (booksandsunshine) Hello everyone!

My name is Meri Kate. You can call me MK for short. I live in Florida. I'm nineteen years old. I love to read, bake, sing, write, journal, and be creative. I am also a big Disney fanatic.

message 633: by Tesla (new)

Tesla Fields (teslafields) | 2 comments I joined this awhile ago, but I've been so busy that I really wasn't participating. Anyways, I have some time on my hands now. I'm Tesla, and I love to read. I haven't had the opportunity to read as much as I'd like or what I would like since I've been in school, but I graduated a couple of weeks ago. I plan on catching up and hopefully read at least a million pages before I die.

message 634: by Jessica (last edited Aug 01, 2013 10:47AM) (new)

Jessica Qua This is a really cool idea - can't wait to get started. My name's Jessica - I love to read but I sometimes go through reading slumps - joining things similar to this helps to keep me motivated to keep on reading.

By the way, just a question - when can we start the million page count - is it based on when we joined the group or can we put the ones we've recorded in the few past years? :) Thanks!

message 635: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Everyone!!! :)
My name is Malissa. I am 20 years old and live in Oklahoma. I am currently a sophomore in college. However, I am not currently enrolled in college at this time. I recently moved back to the United States from living in Japan so I had to put my college studies on hold while I get settled. Once I get more settled, I'm hoping to attend the University of West Florida as an English or Library Sciences major. Even though I miss being in school full time, I love having the extra time to read the books that I want to read :)

I am excited about this new group and am looking forward to participating in discussions with y'all! :)

message 637: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm Samantha! I just discovered this group and I love the idea. I'm 38, married, and work in a small library in Tennessee. I'll just count what I read from now on and I'm thinking this will take me until I turn 50 in 2025 if not longer!

message 638: by Barbara VA (new)

Barbara VA (barbarava) | 3 comments Welcome Samantha! I am not great at posting but with well over a month to go I have read many more pages this year and my shelf to finish this years goals still has many to go! I just love a challenge.

message 639: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (thornrose13) | 119 comments Hi my name is Izzie I'm a book blogger but I still have a lot to learn in that. I'm 19 years old and really just want to see how long it will take me 1,000,000 pages.

message 640: by Leigh Ann (new)

Leigh Ann (auntannie) | 14 comments Hi, I'm Leigh Ann. I live in Indiana (may be moving to Florida soon), married for 28 years and have 2 sons, 22 and 18. I have always loved to read as well as genealogy and scrapbooking. Interesting idea to try for a million pages. Looking forward to my first personal challenge - the 14x__. Think I'll set a mediocre goal for my first time and try just 4 categories. :)

message 641: by Tanya (new)

Tanya (tanya35016) | 2 comments I am a library employee in a medium sized town in the south. We have lots of adults who are regular readers but I was searching for ways to encourage those who are occasional readers and thought I'd try this before pitching it to our director. If it's not incredibly easy to track their goals, most won't try... Anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?

Tanya, I am doing the Million page challenge but I am 58 and only started to keep track of this last year! I do keep a record of all that I read here on Goodreads but I find it much easier to set my goals for the year of number of books I am going to read rather than pages. I set a new goal each December for the following year and I am able to increase by a few each year. I keep a spreadsheet, not fancy mind you of books I want to read because they have been on my TBR list and I want variety. (I have 600+ on my TBR list and I decided to add 1 book per month that I added a title to the list.) I started Goodreads in 2009, this year I have 72 that I am sure I want to read, then add a few more so that I can pick up a new title that I read about or complete a series or even do a little research! It is quite ambitious, but it works, I have read 34 on the list so far plus 25 others in my goal of 90. The Reading Challenge here is excellent way to keep track as well, I am 15 books ahead so far but I am now reading a long technical book and have 2 sagas to read as my next, so I will not be so far ahead.

I use my library all the time and have a que of titles in reserve to be sent to my local branch. We do not have the largest system in Virginia but it is still very good and being able to search online at home is a help, but it does not beat shelf quests and looking at what other people are picking up. I am so nosy, that is why there are so many books on my TBR list!!

message 650: by Hanna (last edited May 18, 2015 12:27AM) (new)

Hanna | 2 comments Hi, I'm Hanna. I live in California. I'm pretty sure that I can make the million page goal. I'll have to backtrack my books that don't have date read attached to them, to get the page count though.
