Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments This is the perfect group for a goal for any book lover!

Invite everyone :)

We have been tossing so many things around to get more people active and very much into their reading to help reach this goal quickly! (then we can aim for 2 million. LOL!)

message 503: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Hello, Thanx for inviting me to this group Melissa T. And I'm looking forward to all the different books people will put out here.

I live in Northridge,CA (2o NW of Hollywood "Tinseltown" and have been married to my husband, Mark for 32 + years. We have 2 children that are 25 & 29. Something special between Mark and I is that we're both native Californians plus we knew each other before we were born. Long story and if interested, message me.
My love of reading started at a young age and now to go back and try to remember all the books I've read since I was able to read on my own.

Lori Goldstein Hi Chris Ann,
Welcome to this crazy bunch of bookworms. Looking forward to see what challenges you partake in and/or groups.

TTYS and btw what part of the world are you from?

message 511: by Lori (new)

Lori Goldstein Just over 40 years ago, I had a German pen pal obtained through a "teen" magazine. He was from Munich and during the Olympics he sent me an Olympic Key chain which I still have. Are you with the U.S. military or a German citizen?

It's an Olympics I won't soon forget because of the Israeli athletes who were murdered and the special key chain I've got.

In looking over your books can you explain how I can find out the English translation.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) Hi
I'm relatively new here. I am doing my own challenge as well the covers challenge.
I am finding that I enjoy more genres than I first thought! Since retiring from the Social Security Admin., I now have the time to read! 25 years of getting up at 4:30 to be at work by 6 am are gone!

I want to read or read books that are on my "bucket list." I am striving to read 132 books and about 30,000 pages this year.

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Booklady, I think you came up with a great challenge... "bucketlist"! We need to talk! ;)

Welcome to you and Zuany to the group.

We are a small group but we are all book love! You'll befriend all of our frequent updaters here! It has become a bookish home away from home.

I couldn't have said it better myself, Mad Sci. When here I feel as if I'm in my own private "family" library. It's just great.

What will the "Bucketlist" Challenge entail?

message 526: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist, I already love the group and its people.

I'm working on my "bucket list" May I post it in the A-D folder, when I'm done or I can create a list on listopia. Or I will put it in the Members Challenge Folder. I think I'll reveal my "bucket reads" as I post them ;-$

message 532: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments Your bucket List... is it just books you want to read or is it for example. Read a book with a beach and beach chair on the cover?

message 533: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) Mad Scientist wrote: "Your bucket List... is it just books you want to read or is it for example. Read a book with a beach and beach chair on the cover?"

Hi there Mad Scientist!

My "bucket list" consists of Classics as The Old Man and the Sea, Ben-Hur, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Old Yeller, etc.

And include Peyton Place, Memoirs of a Geisha,The Thorn Birds, The Godfather to name a few.

And some authors like Stephen King, the Bronte sisters, Jane Austen that I need to read and re-read.

My list has grown to over 250...I'm not sure how I am going to set it up yet. I welcome a suggestion.

Oh, there are books that were made into films that I haven't read yet, like The Sterile Cuckoo, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and From Here to Eternity.

I think I am reverting back to my youth and early 30s...oh my! Maybe it's because I'll be 55 next month :(

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I have an idea that I'm fiddling with. But it different thing having a book list. I'll see if I can get up today and everyone can let me know what they think.

message 536: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (readbynight) | 42 comments I joined this group quite a while ago but I've been stalking quietly observing until now.

I told myself that I wanted to read one million pages by the time I'm 50. I'm 23 so I can see it being possible I just think I need the motivation to do it. I always give myself reading goals each year and then usually fall horribly short of them. Last year was to read all of Stephen King's books in order. Which I did for a while and then I stopped reading in order...and then I completely gave up. This year I'm being a bit more flexible (because I'm also a book buyer addict and need to read some of the books I've bought but never fit into my goals), I've given myself a goal of 52 books with half being from a series (any series I want) and the rest are whatever I pick up.

I think I'd read a lot more books if it weren't for my love of comic books. I buy and read about 30-35 new comic books a week (and this isn't even including all the back issues I pick up) I have separate goals for them and admit to being a little more strict with reaching them mostly because if I don't then I have hundreds stacked up within a month.

message 537: by Mad Scientist (new)

Mad Scientist (madscientist) | 1119 comments I would agree... That would be way too many comics to fall behind in!

Welcome! Feel free to jump into one of the challenges that will help u out ;) I fail miserably too but I know what I'm trying to strive for & it helps.

message 538: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Hi, Nikoleta!! We've started so many new challenges this year; I'm sure you can find one that suits you! Happy Reading :D

message 542: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katsikes) What a super cool idea!
I'm new to Goodreads, and thus new to groups on here as well. Luckily my new goodreads friend Lori introduced me to this group, so here I am.

I'm a 32 year old from southeastern Virginia, U.S.A. I am a program manager who does not find enough time to read - this 1M page goal will definitely help me make it more of a priority (I'm a bit competitive that way.) I like a broad range of books, though I don't read as much poetry or non-fiction as I should. (We all have our weaknesses, right?)
Besides reading, I love animals, watching football (American football that is...), playing the piano, and spending time with my family.
I'm looking forward to starting this challenge - I only wish I could count past books as well...

message 543: by Zakiya (last edited Jan 22, 2012 07:57PM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Welcome to the group, Katherine!!! We're glad to have you! How are you liking GoodReads so far?

Poetry and nonfiction are my weaknesses as well :). My brother loves to play the piano/keyboard as well. Who do you like to watch when it comes to football?

You can count past books! Did you read somewhere in the group that you can't? Because I was supposed to change all of that when I changed the rules last year.

I think it's fine to add books read in the past. That's what I did!

message 545: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katsikes) Oops...sorry, read the first couple of posts before I read the new rules. You did update it - I just didn't start in the right place :)

Katherine (katsikes) I love the NFL - I'm in a couple of fantasy football leagues every year and I get Sunday Ticket to watch all the games every week - I'm kind of a super freak fan! My team is the Cowboys (I know, I know...) but I have a good excuse - I was born in Texas. Are you a football fan as well?
