Thank you for trying to help but MARRIED BY CHRISTMAS by Carole Mortimer is NOT the book I am looking for. I read my book first and I never read Carole Mortimer book until someone suggested it as a solution for my book search.
Besides, the hero confronts the heroine in CM book at once while in the book I am looking for he is brooding and nasty to the heroine for days. He doesn't confront her until much later, towards the end of the book if not at the end.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the try lady danielle, but im sure its not Her Torrid Temoporary Marriage.. any other suggestions? i also remember a scene in the book when they start sharing his bedroom instead of seperate bedrooms. She doesnt want to stay in the same room that her friend lived in before so he decides she can give up their furniture to goodwill and buy new ones to make her happy..

No worries,i really am psyched to read this book that you are looking for jenny.

A friend of mine is looking for a book she read in the past (some decades ago), but she can't remember the title:
Hero works for the heroine's father. In a farm I think. They fall in love and start meeting in a house which I think belongs to her father (some place he provided to his employees). One day they are surprised by her father and his henchmen. They beat him ( I think he has got scars because of that) and her father expelled her when he knew she was pregnant. Years later, they meet again. Hero is rich now and she works in a men's clothing store. Her son is ill and she needs money for the treatment. My friend remembers this scene: hero buys several things and asks her if she wins by commission. Then he buys a shirt of each color, a pair of trousers of each color, etc., buys clothes for his driver...
I believe after her father's death, hero buys her father's farm..
Does anyone remember which story is this?
Thanks

I haven't read it but I m intrigued! I will search in other forums..
I hope someone gives a lead soon.

I think the H was called Guy and the heroine was Rose. She was younger than him. He got injured somehow and then took her to some place near the sea. An old flame of his also showed up at some point.
Does anyone remember which one this could be?

Could it be Escape to Happiness by Mary Whistler?
It was just another story to Rose—a Society wedding, nothing that would ever touch her life. Certainly, when the wedding was called off, the bride left at the altar, the last thing Rose expected was to find the groom on her doorstep, begging for help that he declared only she could give him! Set in London, Rose is working alone in a lawyer’s office when Guy Wakefield comes in with a cut over his eye. It is the day before his society wedding. But he doesn’t show up to the wedding. Rose goes home after work that day and he’s there. His wrist is sprained and he can’t drive. So he tells Rose to drive him to the country and shows her a gun.

I think the book you are looking for is Susan Fox's

In the late '80's when I was introduced to reading all things romance, my favorites were HP's and historical romances.
Now since discovering the awesomness (haha) of Fictiondb I am on there almost everyday looking for old HP titles so I am not bothering you all!!
My question is in regards to a Historical romance novel read probably between '87 - '90. I do not know anything about the book except for a few memories, that may or may not even be correct. The cover is mainly in purples, and the girl on the cover has very long black/brown hair.
*I know she is kidnapped...
*I am pretty sure the hero in the beginning was ridiculously drunk...
*She has no experience on a horse...
I know, I know, you can all quit laughing now!!!
With that all said, I have gone to great lengths to look for this book. I have gone through every publisher series list at Fictiondb, and have started by covers, as that I think will be key to jogging my memory. I have found a few titles that way, but not this particular book.
I have signed up for Featured Author Challenge at RRRC group and the author for March is Jude Deveraux, now I noticed that the book I am going to read was published by Avon Books. I have never heard of Avon Books before.
So my question is this, can you ladies please recommend other publishing houses that have published Historical romances from the '80's and '90's, that are not Harlequin?
Or does anyone have any idea how or where I may start to look for this book, that is most likely NOT a harlequin. (where is the red face smiley when you need it!)
Or can you point me to other romance databases or...
if this is ridiculously impossible, can someone please tell me to quit this search and move on. : )

Write everything you can remember about the book, no matter how small or insignificant.
Was it a medieval, viking, western,...?
Maybe

I will go and post my plea to the link you've provided.
I'm pretty sure it is not the book you posted, but I am having trouble trying to find a description of the book you posted. It's not ringing a bell though!
Having not read a historical romance since my teens, am unfamiliar with all the kinds of historical romances, but I would say this one is pretty close to a western.
Thanks again for you help.
(ignore my ramblings, I am posting more stuff I can remember.)
* when kidnapped she was found by the hero in a cave
* I think the hero was picking her up at the train station and thought she was supposed to be a guy...
* I think she was going to go live on a farm/homestead she inhereited?? not sure how?

I have one that has caused me to look through my books: the nh and H were married and happy but when she lost or miscarried her bababy she pulled away from her husband. The had known each other in their young young and met up again to marry. I can.' t remember what his job was could have been a foreign news reporter . He went on a job and while he was gone she decided to clean up her act. She met him at the airport and saw him with a young woman who was on the same job. She could tell they had been intimate , she went home and waited for him He explained what had happened and that he did I not love the woman. They divorce and meet again in their home town. He has been injured while on another job and is staying with his step mother. The H tells her that they will be together again. Oh there is a wedding and that is the reason the h is there. I think the h worked at a museum and lived with another young woman who at one time loved and wanted the H. She also caused the h to fall on the stairs an lose the baby. Any ideas.

Sara Craven - The marriage truce ?
I don't recall OW causing the faceplant down the stairs / him staying with stepmom but the plot is similar, H/h headed to splitsville due to hero whipping out his ding dong during assignment after heroine suffered miscarriage, then she decided to pick him up @ airport & saw hubby w/ OW. So he fessed up that he broke his vows. Then they reunite when H/h gotta attend a wedding.

I think that is Fantasy by Emma Darcy."
Oh yes.....Definitely yes. Thank u. I need to read this book ASAP.

Thank you Verity. The Marriage Tuce it is. I am just getting to the discussion s and could kick myself. I could have reread this last week because I do have it. Thanks a bunch. You did good.

The H works for the heroine's grandfather in a company . Her grandfather adopted him as a teenager, taking him out of the streets.
When she's completing eighteen she gives him a super kiss and she invites him for her birthday party. She is in love with him.
Her father witnesses the scene and warns the H to get away from his daughter. So he shows up in the birthday party with another woman and the heroine becomes very sad.
Time passes by, she graduates and she starts to work in the grandfather's company. Her father has passed away and her grandfather tells her that the presidency can only be hers if she has a son to succeed her in the business, but that child has to be generated normally.
That's when she asks the H to have a child with her.
In the end he offers her a pendant with a heart ( symbolizing his own heart) and an engagement ring.

A HQ Presents book that I've read a long time ago its about a girl and boy that grew up together. Funny, this one came up as a query in this very same thread not too long ago. The Dark Side of Desire is definitely the book you want, Melissa. And the credit goes to 3meg:
Someone posted this request at "what's that book" and I know I've read it recently and it's an HP... anyone recognize it?
"there was a lady who fell in love with the guy from the family her mother worked for as a house help. the guy had to leave to go school (i think) and the lady found out she was pregnant. she wrote him a letter telling him that she was pregnant, and when she went to post it, one of his family friend who wanted him for herself told her that she would post it for her but she didn't. instead she gave it to the guy's father and the father paid her to have and abortion. the lady didn't and left her home because she felt abandoned even her mother sided with her employer on the abortion. 10 yrs later ( i think) the lady had to go back and look after her mother only to meet with her former lover and her son's father but she didn't tell him that she had her son. the guy whose name is Jason ( i think) eavesdropped on her talking to her son and she signs of by telling him " I love you" but her jumps to the conclusion she is talking to her current boyfriend and he gets all jealous"

Yeah, it's definitely a good read. The premise kind of made no sense to me, but it really sucked me in and I read it in one sitting.

I think so- she's the one who came up with the answer originally :).

The book is about a girl who was raped by her father or step father. She get's pregnant and runs away. She sneaks onto a train where she meets this bum who is actually a really rich guy. He takes her in, marries her after she has the baby to protect her, and opens his home to her little brother. I have looked everywhere but I have no idea who the author is or what the name of the book is so it's like finding a needle in a haystack. And possible leads would be greatly appreciated.

Catherine Anderson - Baby Love
(but I think she has a sister, not a brother)
EDIT:
Sorry, wrong story!!!
The plot is very similar. LOL
I didn't notice that you said she is pregnant. In Catherine Anderson's story she has a baby already.

I remember some vague details like
1. Set on a beach or Island in at least half of the book.
2. The heroine saves a child from drowning.
3. Hero was definitely rich and was the elder of two brothers. Can't comment on the girl's financial status.
4.It might be from HP extra series.

Actually 2 books which are nagging me but I cant recall the name.
1. The hero is trying to take revenge on the heroine. The heroine was engaged to the H's friend few years back but she is forced to break it off because her father threatens to reveal some dirty secrets of the fiance. The fiance dies and so H wants revenge. He sleeps with heroine pretending to believe about what really happened about her fiance but she finds out later he really hadnt believed her. She runs away from him and gets hit by a car, is hospitalized and H is filled with remorse. I cant recall the title of this book.
2. The second book is a widowed heroine who was actually abused by the husband but the Hero doesnt know it, the heroine had been attracted to the hero even when the husband was alive, so he feels she was responsible for the husband to drink which ultimately kills him. I remember the mother-in-law knew about her son's weakness and she has good relationship with the heroine. I think the hero was cousin to the husband. I remember the cover was white, the picture had heroine who is blond with the hero in the background. Please plz someone get me the names.

Could the second be

Nopes, the second book that I mentioned was a book from late 80s to early 90s, definitely not this book. Also, the h is a widow, the H makes her suffer coz he believes she was not faithful to her husband when he was alive.
