Leona (wdwcbm) | 373 comments Tia - I swear I read this, I searched my books and can't find it. It feels like something Winspear would have wrote.

I hope someone finds it. I have to agree with Willa flu, it does sound good!

Tia (tiamaria) | 6 comments Mareli, The Unwanted Wife is one of my favorites, it is so darn good but there is no rape involved although the sex at the start of the novel almost made me cry. However not the one, this one I'm thinking of has a bad ass rapey husband.

Leona, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has read this book once upon a time. I went through a lot of my books and I didn't find any as of yet. Maybe it is a Winspear one, I'll have to keep looking.

Verity, Thanks but that's not the one. I read that one and must confess, I only rated it 2 stars.

This is going to bug me until the end of time now. lol I was hoping I gave enough information that someone would know it or recognize it off the bat, unfortunately no luck yet. I keep trying to think of the characters names but I'm totally blanking on it. This could of been a vintage that was re-released because I don't recall anything in the story leading me to believe it was dated really.

message 1456: by Leona (last edited Oct 26, 2014 06:43AM) (new)

Leona (wdwcbm) | 373 comments Tia - maybe we should recommend some authors who typically wrote stories like that. From a vintage perspective, the authors that come to mind are Winspear, Lamb. I don't know if that helps.

I haven't read much Lamb, but I will look through my reads by author. I so want you to find it. If I haven't' read it, I want to!

Rose Alice | 102 comments Hello everyone...I know I have asked this before, but I didn't get any answers, moreover most of them didn't notice at all & I can't rest in peace till I know which book this is! I will give the description of what I remember-the h's friend invites her to work as a secretary under her big brother for the summer vacation. The H & h's first meeting is embarrassing- H comes to pick his sister up before the time & sees h unprepared embarrassing situation (in inner only since she was changing her dress). h's friend has three(maybe 4??) brother in total. The other two of them tries to flirt with her...H does a background check on h & finds that she was molested & abused as a child.h gets to know this & gets angry ... Oh yeah, also heroine's friend, the Hero's little sister loves someone who works under Hero & asks heroine to lie & distract her brother so that she can spend some time with the man she loves.

Another thing I remembered that the hero's parents died in accident & probably the hero & heroine's friend, means hero's sister & his brothers are probably step-siblings,but whom the hero reared up like a parent...heroine's friend is the most adored little sister, the baby girl in the family whom all the brothers spoil. At the beginning of the book, the brothers were grimacing about how much she spent previous month..& that she needs to cut some slack...even the said person realizes that she had spent too much.

UPDATE- The story is on a American background. That means NO ITALIAN,GREEK or RUSSIAN hero & also the hero has horses; he teaches heroine how to ride(with lots of romance ofcourse!)

P.S- I have deleted the previous description & also added some new descriptions to it. So mods, please don't delete this . Needless to say,I will be grateful to you all for helping me :)

bookworm1202 | 67 comments I read the description of this book on goodreads and read reviews , and felt yikes abt the age difference n idiotic dialogues which were quoted in in review, closed the page .

So it was old hp/m&b.
H is old n h is maybe in her twenties

a dialogue was mentioned in review (which crept me out)H tells to other man (maybe the other man is related to him) in front of h something on the lines of that 'H wud please h more than other man just by touching her breast'(yukk)

below mentioned stuff is bit hazy & wat I guessed out of the storyline reading reviews so it might not be accurate

H comes to meet h becoz i guess he this she is his dead son's girlfriend.
his son died in car accident.
but the girl is hiding something but she goes with the flow coz he likes H.

message 1467: by Beata (new)

Beata | 10 comments Hi, everyone,

I can't remember a title of a book I've read when I was young. I can remember some of the plot as follows:

- The hero seeked for revenge because the heroine's father and the Hero's mother were in love and it ruined H's father.
- H seduced (even married?) h and after their first night together H started to neglect h and was very rude to her.
- Near the end of the book h finds a lot of love letters which her father wrote to H's mother and which would clear the parents actions. She rushes to H with the letters but suffers a car accident.
- In the end H apologies h and they together go to the grave of H's father and ask for his blessing.

Maybe I can't remember all the details right. Could you please help me about this book? I tried to use google with a lot of key words but never found this story.

Thank you very much in advance!

Beata

Janice | 37 comments Hi everyone, I can't remember the name of the hp where the heroine, mistress to the hero, finds out she is pregnant. She is going to tell him when they are out to dinner. Before she can tell him, he gives her a gift and dumps her. I think she just walks out of the restaurant. Would appreciate your help, guys.

message 1473: by Janice (new)

Janice | 37 comments I remember reading that book and really liked it. I'm pretty sure that the one I'm thinking about isn't this book. I'm almost positive the break-up took place at a restaurant. The hero gave the heroine a piece of jewelry as a parting gift. Hero broke up with the heroine because he was afraid he was beginning to feel too much for her. He had his next mistress already lined up. I don't think they met again until after she had the baby. Maybe I'm wrong and putting two books together.

message 1475: by LLC (last edited Nov 10, 2014 11:10AM) (new)

LLC (llcspokane) | 69 comments I read it also. She had planned to tell him she was pregnant but he gives her piece of jewelry and just says it's over. She gets up and he thinks she's going to ladies room, she just walks out and never comes back. She doesn't even collect her things from the apartment.
Five years or so later. She starts a job as a cocktail waitress to save enough money to take her son and the older woman they live with on a vacation. First night on the job the H comes in. She tries to disappear but he tracks her down sees the kid and knows he's his kid.
ETA
The scene with her leaving restaurant is heartbreaking. She's in a state of shock. Doesn't know where she is just walks all night finally ends up at a small hotel or bed and breakfast. I've re-read this part several times but unfortunately I'm terrible at remembering title/author.

message 1478: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckynj) | 47 comments It is in An Heir for the Millionaire....I remember thinking how outrageous the hero was being all insulted and vengeful that she dared to walk out without letting him complete the humiliating scene he planned to force her to endure while he dumped her by paying her off with jewelry and immediately replacing her like a set of batteries.

message 1480: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckynj) | 47 comments PS...although not at all the rant from Purchased for Revenge, there is at least some hint of heroine temporarily standing up for herself...

She notes: "How can I love a man who threw me out like rubbish, who packed me off with a diamond necklace, who last night used me for sex because I was convenient and on hand...? How can I love a man like that? A man without feelings, without conscience, without remorse, or the slightest acknowledgement that he was so coldly callous to me? I musn't love a man love a man like that! It debases me to do so."

Of course, while great that she acknowledges this.... then she loves him.....but it is an HP after all!

Beata | 10 comments Hi Everyone,

Here's another one: There is a smart girl (working as a professor or something) who thinks that men only like dumb girls so she starts to pretend to be very dumb and simple. She somehow meets Hero by this time. Once while showering at Hero's place she slips, breaking the shower glass and cutting her wrists accidentally. The Hero thinks she cut her wrists on purpose. I also remember that they were playing chess. Also, at the end she's holding a presentation at the university where the Hero finds out she's not dumb at all. It is a kind and funny story actually but I can't remember the title or the names. I think this book was written in the 1990's.

Thank you for your help!

Cathy Norfin | 56 comments Hey guys.. Ive been away for a bit but I am back.:-)

i was wondering if anyone can remember the name of this book. I only remember a little from the beginning but I'm hoping someone can remember as well....

It starts where the h is at her sisters wedding and/or reception and the H ends up talking to her about a night that he engineered a month or two prior where they had sex but to him it was out of revenge. To her ....she ( i think ) didn't realize it was out of revenge until after.......Now there at the wedding and shes pregnant with H baby because of that night and she doesn't want him to know. She asks him why he is there and he says its because her sister invited him. He then realizes at this time (I don't remember how he realizes it) that she is pregnant and i think he demands her to come with him or live with him... Ans involved sister somehow.. I still don't remember much about why he's doing the revenge .......

Anyone remember this harlequin title?

If you can help.. Much appreciated :-)

Beata, I remember the book - but don't remember the title. I think that this is the book where towards the end the h is driving in a car full of gifts that the H's mother sent to him but were returned. She is in a car accident, the car is in the water and she is desperately trying to salvage the gifts. In this book the h's father is alive -- he is the one to give the h all of the gifts.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I also remember these parts. But unfortunatley I still can't remember the title or the names of the characters. I think it was also written in the 90's. I used to read these books when I was a teenager and it was one of my favourites.

Chrissy (violettaknits) | 2 comments SOLVED :) Makeshift Marriage
Hi,

Looking for an old HP book that I read in the 90s. I've been working on tracking down a lot of books I've read in that time period, and was surprised to find a few that were dated 1989. So for time range I'd say 1989-1999.

~I think it's set in Hong Kong/Singapore/Asia. (I've searched for it at vintageromances.com, but none of those matched what I'm looking for)
~Neither the hero or heroine are Asian. I'm fairly certain they're from the UK.
~Heroine works for hero, who is getting married to other woman.
~Heroine knows other woman is awful. The other woman either stands him up or the heroine deliberately stops the other woman.
~I think the hero needs to be married for business reasons... so the heroine substitutes herself for the bride. Hero has no idea until the wedding.
~At this point, he is furious at heroine and takes out his anger on her on their wedding night...
~I think the other woman shows up again at some point to stir up trouble.
~Heroine has lunch or something with hero's business partner or boss or father? He tells her that it's good the hero never married the other woman, b/c it would have been horrible for his career or something like that.
~I think after reaching a breaking point that they're marriage isn't working, the heroine tries to leave Hong Kong/Singapore/Asia & their marriage.

Thanks in advance!
