Have you read a book where the heorine has gotten on your nerves?

Someone might state someone you like and that's okay. :)

message 2: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 151 comments I probably won't make any friends, but I have to say Anita Blake. By book 9 or 10 in the LKH series, I just couldn't stand her anymore.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments Anita Blake I always find annoying for some reason she really gets on my nerves, I have only read up to the third one and I doubt I will read much further then that

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments Lol snap Michelle : )

message 5: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments The heroine from Silver Falls was horrible and did one stupid thing after another through the whole book.

I know I'm going to get slapped. But more than a few of Suzanne Brockmann's heroines annoy me. I especially dislike: Veronica from Prince Joe (couldn't even finish the book I couldn't stand her so much), Savannah from Out of Control, Gina (pre-Breaking point), Kelly (Unsung Hero), and Joan (Into the Night).

I wasn't fond of Danika from The Darkest Pleasure by Gena Showalter. Olivia from Let the Night Begin by Kathryn Smith really worked my nerves.

Everyone is going to respect everyone's choice. :)

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments There have been plenty over the years, but Kelly from Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann is at the top of the list.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments Bella from Twilight is also one that always manages to get on my nerves, the girl has no sense of humour!!

message 10: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I have two that pop into mind.

Denise from First Drop of Crimson. She was too whiny. Spade deserves better.

Anya from The Darkest Kiss and subsequent books from that series. She annoys me very much.

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Lissa
From Meads Vamp Academy series

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 704 comments As a quick side note to this question what is it about these woman that just grates on that last sane nerve you have? Or what qualities turn you off?

message 13: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Hi Darcy,
It`s hard to answer this without giving away the plot, but I just feel like Lissa is just way involved with Lissa, and then there is something about her I just don`t like.

I do get what you are saying about this one as I read that series and you are right that you just can't put your finger on it.

message 15: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments The heroine in Christina Dodd's Tongue in Chic. Don't even remember her name so much I was annoyed with ehr throughout. Didn't even finish the book.

Another one that gets to me is Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich) with her constant limbo between Ranger and Morelli.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments I think heroines that annoy me most in general are the ones that take themselves really really seriously and have no sense of humour (Bella from Twilight) or heroines that make really irrational decisions and you just can't work out why, I find that tends to more be the case for histroical heroines for some reason. As fro Anita Blake there is just somethign very annoying about her, most the time I just want to slap her which is why I have stopped reading the series!

Heroine turn-offs for me:

*Cruel, hateful, condescending to hero or others
*Rigidly self-righteous, judgmental, and intolerant (Olivia)
*Sleazy and promiscuous, showing no self-respect
*Lets hero treat her like trash or sex object
*Treats hero bad and doesn't return his love and devotion (Kelly and Savannah hit this button for me)
*Snobby
*Narcissistic
*Excessively materialistic or concerned with appearance and what others think about her to the point that it governs her actions
*Double-crosses and back-stabs the hero who doesn't deserve it.
*Doesn't use the brains and good sense God gave her. No problem-solving skills. Always makes the worst decisions. (Danika was like this)

I think these are my major heroine no-nos.

message 19: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments I just remembered another one. Helen Renault from FORGET ME NOT, the first book in the NAVY SEALS series by Marliss Melton. That woman was just a total BITCH in my opinion.

I don't have a burning desire to read that book. Thanks for the heads up, Debbie.

Helen was kind of hard on Gabe...but Forget Me Not was a good book!:)

message 22: by Auntee (new)

Auntee | 74 comments I just thought of a heroine who bugged me--Trish from Toni Blake's Tempt Me Tonight. She ran the hero in that book ragged, making him jump through hoops for her to right a wrong he did to her when they were teens. I just thought she was a little too unforgiving...

I don't remember too much about the heroine but I remember really loving that book and the entire series. In fact, I kept all of them.

message 24: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) The chick lit chicks who band together in a small group, often on girls night out, to make the hero do something foolish in public, usually in the name of some silly contest to find out who the best male is.Ewwwwwwwwwww

message 25: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Sammy,
I saw a post today that said if people think Lissas like that now just wait till they read the last book in the series, that poster was ready to do a wallbanger on Lissa.
Now I don`t know if I`m anxious to get it and find out what Lissa does or just forget the whole thing.
I just hope Rose makes a choice that is good for her

Auntee, I think Trish would bug me too, from what you're saying.

message 27: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Sammy,
The book was Spirit Bound. It`s been a long time since I`ve read them I don`t remember which one in the series it is or if I`ve even read it,because I got tired of Lissa and I kind of dropped off after number 4 I think.
I just read Blood Memory-didn`t even know I had it either, was slow the first half of the book, then picked up

message 28: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments I hate those too!

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Debbie,
I wasn`t all that hot for Succubus Blues when I first started it, then it grew on me and I ended up liking it-better even than Vamp Acadamy

message 30: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments I haven't read either of those.

Kiara in Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon really bugged me. I guess she redeemed herself, though.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments She was okay, she kept getting into trouble though, and I remember being annoyed at her as didn't she judge them all quite harshly when Syn told her about them, or told her who Syns father was. I can't remember now has been a while since I read them.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm with you, Danielle. Kiara drove me nutty with her "I won't judge you" then "how could you???" attitude.

I still think that Nyk would have chosen me if I hadn't been in a committed relationship with Zsadist.

Thanks, Dhestiny! Am I worthy of St. Vincent, Kylemore, and Syn, you think? (*batting eyelashes*)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Absolutely no doubt about it!!! The real question is, are they worthy of you??

message 44: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (broadwayduchess93) | 1 comments I think one of my major no-nos is if they have low self-esteem. like if they're insecure about their capabilities, getting the guy (are you SURE he likes me? i don't think so...*after the 10000 times the guy has professed his love*) and being weak. like if they are faced with troubles and they run away (figuratively and literally)... *coughbellaswancough*

message 46: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments Lol Rachel. That's a good one.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) I think my worst type of heroine is 'the doormat'. I hate heroines with absolutely no pride or self esteem, who will accept any kind of nasty behavior without any reaction besides a tear or two. The heroine in Midnight Pleasures by Eloisa James was such a woman.

Also agree with Rachel on the weak heroines who can't help themselves. I'm not a fan of the female warrior type either, but the absolutely helpless 'I need a man to help me lace my shoes' is pathetic for me.

Finally, I can't stand deliberate blindness on the heroine's part. The kind 'the truth stares me in the eyes but I choose to close them, because I just can't face it right now' can make the book a wallbanger for me.

message 48: by Zee (new)

Zee Monodee (zee_monodee) | 688 comments Good ones Fani. These turn me off too.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 474 comments I agree Fani, espcially about the "doormat" types, I don't mind low self-esteem per se, but at some points I find myself wanting to slap some pride in to people.

I've stop reading historical books years ago, because I was tired of reading about weakling heroine. Not all of them were like that, don't get me wrong, but I can't stand to see a woman that doesn't have a back bone and she lets the hero talk to her any kind of way or do her any kind of way.

I don't think so!
