In another thread we have been talking about whether we want a movie made of the series...or not....and who would star in it etc. My question is what do you think the title of the movie/miniseries should be? Highlander has already been done, Timetraveller (I think?) and Timetraveller's Wife have been done. So, would you want to see it called "Outlander"???? or something else? If something else...what?

There is a movie called Outlander already maybe it should be called Cross Stitch, that's the U.K. name of D.G's Outlander book.
Oh this could be a fun tread....I stll wonder what the U.K. title Cross Stitch is refering to. I don't get that metaphor. Maybe I'm not looking deep enough into it?
I think something in Gaelic or something like The myth of standing stones. It will be fun to find out though if it ever happens!
Something in Gaelic would be nice... except I don't know that I would want the movie named Sassenach...

I had thought about Sassenach...I love that word! And, Da mi basia mille would be good too!
Da mi basia mille is very pretty but sounds sorta like a foreign film. Cross Stitch is nice since it is the name of the first book, but I too am confused about the meaning. Crossing Time?
re: Cross Stitch...I always took it as a Stitch in time and then cross them...i.e. the travelling...but who knows...lol! I read it as Cross-Stitch in Australia and then re-read it as outlander in the US

But why the difference? Is the wording different in any way? Why use different covers? Different names? I never understood that. What does Cross Stitch mean to you being in the UK? Does it have a meaning that we here in the US wouldn't be familiar with?
Good questions Dorothy. It seems a lot of books change titles and covers for publication between UK and US I haven't a clue why?

Cross Stitch doesn't really have a meaning to me (other than the needle work hobby) & i didnt mean anything by it other than a suggestion, as there is a movie called Outlander already!
Ok, thanks. Just asked on the off chance someone on this site might have an idea. Since there is a movie Outlander , Cross Stitch does make the most sense.
Cross Stitch has a meaning but I forgot exactly what. If I remember right (from the Outlandish Companion), it was a play on "A Stitch in Time," but there was something else too. I will have to look it up.
I'm going to have to get that companion book. I just am to absorbed into this to escape...LOL! Can't wait to shop this weekend!
From the Outlandish Companion: "Well, Cross Stitch was my working title for the manuscript. It's not a particulaly good title; it's a weak play on "a stitch in time" with an (even weaker) reference to Claire's occupation as a healer (doctor-wound-stitch...that sort of thing), but it was my first book after all. I'd also thought- as the book grew, and I could see something of the shape of the story - that Claire would return to the present at the end of the book (which in fact she didn't do until the end of Dragon-fly). If she had returned in the first book though, that would have made the "cross - crossing back to the past and then forth to the future, which gave me the mental shape of an X which is, of course the shape of a cross-stitch"
