Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I love most of the above series. But some not mentioned (not all are PNR or UF but some are)

Troubleshooters series by Suzanne Brockmann
Dragon Tatoo series by Larson
Harry Potter by Rowling
CIA/Ops series by Bruhns (okay, but fun -- not great literature)
Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich
Dark Elves by Mykles (okay borderline erotica, but UF also)
Anita Blake by Hamilton

First book in the series are below:

The Unsung Hero (Troubleshooters, #1) by Suzanne Brockmann The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling Shoot to Thrill (Passion For Danger, #1) by Nina Bruhns One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich Taken by Jet Mykles Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) | 46 comments I haven't heard of all those books Regina - I have some checking out to do!

yay!

message 56: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Kelleigh,

Troubleshooters -- is based on a specific navy seals team. There are 15 so far in the series, and I would compare it to BDB, in that the friendships and relationships between the men and women are front and center and the romances develop over the series. Alot of action.

The series by Bruhns, is sort of a not so good copy of Troubleshooters, but the romance/steamy scenes are interesting.

Dark Elves, is completely in another world, and if explicit sex scenes bother you or erotica does -- beware that that is a key element of this series. The story line develops and is strong (stronger with each book), but the society described is a society that was created to sexually service a goddess -- so sex is definitely upfront.

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Regina, Dark Elves is drippin' sex! That's a "read at your own risk" series.

The "Passion for Danger" series has some HOT covers ... mmmmmmm ;)

And, can you believe that I've never read "Anita Blake" books?! I don't have a lot of interest getting into it at this point with all the balking I've heard.

message 58: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I agree completely about dark elves. Bruhns series is eh.

I also balked at Anita Blake for the same reason. I started it bc the consensus was that it started to go downhill or change around 6 or maybe 9/10. So far 1 and 2 are fabulous.

message 59: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Yeah, but my problem is that I can't stop reading a series once I've started it. No matter how crappy it gets. At least, I haven't been able to so far.

I have a few of those (Anita) TBR, but they will stay the bottom of the pile until I run outta stuff I really wanna read. :)

Karin Elisabeth (goodreadscomkarinelisabeth) | 151 comments Hello, everyone. I'm not sure if I just didn't see her mentioned but has anyone read
Meljean Brook?
I read some pretty good reviews of her books. Perhaps they are more urban fantasy rather than paranormal romance. Anyway I went to her website and thought I might like some of the Guardian series.

message 61: by Vered (new)

Vered (veredi) | 41 comments Wow Regina, thanks! I've add some new ones :)

Haven't read Anita Blake's, don't think I will. Too much bad reviews for the latest books. It feels like there's no point.

message 62: by Shelleyrae (new)

Shelleyrae at Book'd Out | 346 comments Two of my fav's not mentioned are the Weather Guardians by Rachel Caine - Ill wind is the first and I really liked Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock series) by Faith Hunt.

message 63: by Karin Elisabeth (new)

Karin Elisabeth (goodreadscomkarinelisabeth) | 151 comments I haven't heard anything about the Weather Guardians so far. But I really enjoyed Jane Yellowrock in the short story "Strange Brew" I think it was. I also enjoyed "Skinwalker" a lot. But unfortunately I didn' like "Blood Cross" at all. I just skimmed through the book. I can't even give a reason - the book and I just didn't connect.

LOL I would say the same about the Riley Jensen series!

I was just looking through the list again and I didn't see the Highlander series by Karen Moning listed. The first two are not my faves, but with #3 they take off, quick rewarding reads with a HEA and the world is tied to the Fever series by Moning.

Also, I have heard good things about the Graceling series, right now at Amazon, on the Kindle it is only $5 and some change.

Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning is the first in the HL series, but I would say start with The Highlander's Touch by Karen Marie Moning and then Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #1) by Kristin Cashore is the other book that I mentioned. I have not read it yet though.

:)

message 66: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL Regina, Riley's got no shortage of sex, yes, but not the same kinda sex as DE. If that makes any sense. I would say Riley's receives an 'M' rating, while DE receives an 'X' rating. ;)

I haven't started any of Moning's Highlander series, not big on historicals. I might eventually try book 1 b/c I really like Moning.

I like the "Skinwalker" series ok. Parts are interesting, parts are ok.

I have some of the others mentioned in my TBR stack, I've added them to my newly created "recommended 2 me" shelf, so I don't forget about them. Thanks! :)

Karin Elisabeth, I haven't read any of Meljean's books, but I think I have book 1 of her Guardians series somewhere. LOL Let us know what you think of it, if you decide to give it a go.

It's more like fantasy romance, and it follows the same couple throughout the whole series. Book 5, which is the final book, will be released this coming November.

I think that's a good plan Steph. I have been waiting for the final book for almost a year now and I won't read "Queen of Song and Souls" (the 4th book) because I want to finish this series in one session - it's so good!

I really wonder where you got the cover of the last of the Tairen Soul, Yz. I have been looking around, but I can't find it.
I also liked Linnea Sinclair's books a lot. Did you also read "Finders Keepers"? It's not connected to the Dock 5 series but it is an excellent read - I think.

message 74: by Vered (new)

Vered (veredi) | 41 comments Thanks ladies!

I have another one. just finished The Smoke Thief (Drakon, #1) by Shana Abé , the first of the Drakon series, and it was just wonderful.

And of course Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger , the first of the The Parasol Protectorat, which was a pure joy!

My love affair with Linnea Sinclair started when I first read Gabriel's Ghost. I just fell in love with Sully. I own a copy of Finders Keepers. Just haven't read it yet.

Hmm...about time to push it up my TBR list. :)

You have to read the 2nd one. Yes, it's darker in tone, our beloved Sully made some very wrong decisions (but his heart is always in the right place), Chaz's strength will be tried, and definitely their love will be tested, but it is a wonderful book.

I didn't start with the beginning of the series but with Hope's Folly and I continued with Rebels and Lovers. I loved Hope's Folly and liked Rebels and lovers.
For some reason I don't really understand I haven't started with the beginning. I think the books sound too sad for me.

Well, Phillip, the hero in Hope's Folly, is Chaz's ex-husband, and although it is possible to enjoy Hope's Folly on its own, I think you will enjoy the series overall by reading the first two books. And if you like Phillip, you have to meet Sully. :)

No, they are not sad books, after all they are romance with a guaranteed HEA at the end.

It's just that Shades of Dark might just be a bit darker in theme, but Gabriel's Ghost is her typical work, romance and space adventure all combined.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Steph wrote: "I haven't started any of Moning's Highlander series, not big on historicals. I might eventually try book 1 b/c I really like Moning."

I didn't notice this before, if you start the HL series and you like the Fever series, I would start with #3 The Highlander's Touch (Highlander, #3) by Karen Marie Moning and then go forward from there. These are less historic base and more based on the romance and the Fae world issues. Although, actually #3 does have quite a bit of historic now that I think about it ...... #1 and #2 take place almost entirely in the past and many people don't care for these two. Also they don't play into the Fever series at all. #3 is good, much better and does involve the Fae world that is at play in the Fever series, but if you really don't like historicals, I guess I would say start with #4 Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning and then go forward from there. If you end up liking the series, you can always go back and read 1-3, before you #4, there is really no need to read 1-3. (althought #1 and #3 have info that comes up in #6, but it isn't a big deal if you don't read them)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments No worries, I understood what you meant. :) It's always good to know when you can start further into a series when the first book(s) aren't as good. Some you can and some you miss too much by doing that. It's good to know this is a series I can skip a few and not be lost.

message 89: by Carrie (new)

Carrie While on the topic of Linnea Sinclair, I have to recommend Games of Command. Kel-Paten may be by all-time favorite hero. And Sinclair writes great heroines! In fact, I can honestly say I love every book Sinclair has written.

Karin Elisabeth (goodreadscomkarinelisabeth) | 151 comments Finally Amazon came through and sent me
Demon Night (The Guardians, #3) by Meljean Brook .
So far I'm only 100 pages in but I quite like the book. Both H and h display their point of view.

The only thing - the H uses a language that is typical for the time in which he was born and it is a little bit annoying - all those "ain't", "reckon" etc.

Again I made the mistake to start somewhere in the middle of a series but one understands the world quite clearly.

message 92: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 01, 2010 12:28AM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL Karin Elisabeth! I got scolded a lot as a kid for saying "ain't" all the time.

Hope you enjoy it, that's a series that I have TBR but haven't ever started.
