Theme Read - June 2010
I'm going to start with the movie theme and challenge myself to read Some Like It Hot-Buttered. For weddings, I've been wanting to check out Veiled Threats by Deborah Donnelly. The sleuth is a wedding planner.

Laura Durham also had a short-lived Wedding Planner series and they were pretty good, too.
Good themes for June. I think I'll have better luck in June finding something to fit the theme (although they may not all be cozies).
Well, as long as they don't have to be cozies...I think I'll save the new Nora Roberts (Savor the Moment) for June. Heck, won't get it from a friend before this weekend or next, anyway.
And wouldn't you know my current book, Cut to the Corpse has a bride in it, as does the next one I had on my list, Slay It With Flowers. Maybe I'll save "Slay" for June and pick something different for the coming weekend.
I'm at a loss for the other two themes. Nothing in the TBR pile or on the TBB list seems to fit. You couldn't pick a "farm" theme to coincide with June Dairy Month, huh? ; )

The June theme reads sound fun; so I'll be looking for books in these areas.....I would love any/all suggestions from you all ...... especailly the one about movies/film making .....
I have Vacation Bible School in the first part of June, so I probably won't get started reading until about mid-month. And by then, I'll be ready to dive into my books again!
Ok, I've been researching this a little today and I've found a couple of books for the June theme:For the Wedding theme: "Fatally Flaky", by Diane Mott Davidson or "Wedding Day Murder", by Leslie Meier.
For the Movie/Film-making theme: "Cherry Cheesecake Murder", by Joanne Fluke or a couple of books by Melinda Wells which involves a cooking show "Killer Mousse" or "The Proof is in the Pudding".
Still looking for Father/Grads theme books .....
@Heather L - hold that thought! I was thinking of "bountiful harvest / farm" for July.Jeffrey Cohen has a cozy series about a dad. I've not read any yet, but they've been "on my list." Shoot, I left my spreadsheet at work - I'll list some more books tomorrow.
These challenges are fun.
I started Honeymoon With Murder at work yesterday and realized I have already read it. I'll switch to The Double Comfort Safari Club since it deals with Grace and Phuti's engagement. - finished June 2nd.
For the movies themes
finished 6/17.Found this one with archaeology students for the dad/grad theme.
finished 6/13.

I'm assuming you haven't read C.J. Box's Joe Pickett books before. They're good reads but pretty violent.
Suzanne wrote: "And a few more for the movies.......
[bookcover:The Silver Needle Murder|1..."I liked THE SILVER NEEDLE MURDER! It's the only one from the Tea Shop series that I gave 5 stars!
Heidi wrote: "Suzanne I love Calamity Jayne!"Those have been on my list forever! But since I'm so anal retentive, I can't start with Jayne going to college since there's a few before it. :)

I read them in order too and would recommend it, because she gets better as the books go along.
What Suzanne said about books in the middle of series. LOL
If you want to do a harvest theme in August or Sept, I can save the couple books that fit until then. Not like I don't have plenty of other books in the meantime. *snicker*

Great themes, Suzanne. :-)
I'll be reading
by John J. Lamb. Happy Reading, everyone! :-)

It's been a long time since I read THE MOURNFUL TEDDY. How does it fit the June themes? I can't remember a wedding, Father's Day or movies.
Kari wrote: "For movies the Toby Peters series by Stuart Kaminsky and the Jacob Singer series by George Baxt are lots of fun."I forgot about the Toby Peters series! I read the one with Bela Lugosi and the one that centered around the making of GWTW.

The descriptions of what they found at the hunting camp were pretty graphic, too.
I'll try the next ones:
1.- Dads:
Sleeping With Anemone
2.- Weddings:
Veiled Threats
3.- Movies:
Murder By Numbers: A Sudoku Mystery
Edited: Replace Frankly My Dear, I'm Dead by Murder By Numbers: A Sudoku Mystery

Another question and I think I can finish my list. I've been at Nicola's blog and I've seen her review about Sleeping With Anemone. The review mentions that her dad is important in the book. I'm going to include it (weakly related, but I think I can like it), do you think is right?

I know what you mean. They can kill all the people they want, in the most horrendous ways possible and I couldn't care less. But don't even think about KICKING a dog, let alone killing it, and I'm done!
Marisa wrote: "Please, can anybody tell me if Frankly My Dear, I'm Dead is OK"
I had this book in mind myself. Has anyone else here read it?

Kari wrote: "Hurting Horses, Cats, Dogs or any animal bothers me in books. In the CJ box book it was horses being shot that bothered me more than people being shot."Agreed! I don't want any animals hurt.....well, killing snakes is okay.
Melodie wrote: "Kari wrote: "The one I read had some killing but it was mostly sniper shooting. Heather L wrote: I had this book in mind myself. Has anyone else here read it?I have read 'Frankly My Dear I am dead'. I think it would fit the movie theme, a women is taking tours and all the actors are baised on the characters from the movie..there is a lot of reference in the book to the movie, cast and set.
I am new to goodreads theme challanges. So I am off to find mine for june too!
I have starting reading Cleo Coyle's Expresso Shot-it has my favorite barista, Clair, investigating murders surrounding her ex-hubby's upcoming nupitals while creating to die for coffee! I love this series, but I'm trying to keep up with it in paperback, not hardback.
Since there's a wedding theme in one of my current reads
I'll be adding this book to the June reads, too. :-)
I just picked up a couple of books for the June themes: Movie/Film-making - "Cherry Cheesecake Murder" by Joanne Fluke
Weddings - "Fatally Flaky" by Diane Mott Davidson
And I havent' chosen one for the Fathers/Grads theme yet.
I read a series a while back that dealt with a "movie-mad family in the midwest". It was written by D.B. Borton also known as Della Borton. The three books in the series are:Fade to Black, (1999)
Freeze Frame, (2000)
Slow Dissolve, (2001)
It has been a while since I read them but they are cozies and they weren't bad.
Kari & Melodie: Would you consider Stuart Kaminsky's Toby Peters series a cozy??? Just wondering before I order any of them (I love Bela Lugosi and GWTW).
Denise wrote: "Kari & Melodie: Would you consider Stuart Kaminsky's Toby Peters series a cozy??? Just wondering before I order any of them (I love Bela Lugosi and GWTW)."I would because they're not violent.
Still reading
by Lucy Lawrence and just started reading
by John J. Lamb.Happy Reading, everyone! :-)
