I'm trying to guess what Cynthia would decide about private detectives for the Readerboard. Readerboard. Cynthia wants spies or espionage so not all private detectives would qualify, but I understand the reasoning that says stake outs, etc. seems like spying.

Since not all detective novels include "spying," my inclination is to not to accept them for this task.

could you explain how they are spies? I haven't read the books, but from the GR descriptions, it sounds more like they are more about high school "mean girls."
