No, I think there was a man (her doctor?) who falls in love with her. And she's a mad woman, and can't talk...I think? Does that sound like the Haunted woman?
I'm thinking this sounds like "Yellow Raft, Blue Water." I read this book awhile ago and really enjoyed it. The most vivid scenes involved a girl living with her grandmother, if I'm remembering correctly.http://www.amazon.com/Yellow-Raft-Blu...
