Manuel (argran) | 292 comments Well I'm kind of tired of people who keep getting inside our discussions to try to prove our liking for Twilight is WRONG, I mean REALLY TIRED... but I've seen Stephanie and Krystal have expossed very well points, so I'm jus gonna say this:

1. Look you like a book or you dislike a book as simple as that, but "to hate" a best seller around the world and call the people who like it "mental cases" doesn't sound so porfessional to me Mrs Professional Book Reviewer, you have to respect succesful authors and their audience even if you don't like their work. I don't like Harry Potter but I still can recognize the talent and brilliance of JK Rowlling.

2.I personally find in Twilight an interesting love/fantasy story, fresh narrative that keeps me readding without getting bored, and reference of Universal Literature, which actually made read all the books mentioned in the saga and gave me back the love for the books, I have read so much more books after twilight than I have before.

3. I have seen that people disliking for the saga cames many times with the fanaticism of the crowds for the actors which they asocieate with the characters, I don't like that either and i think this madness promoted by the franchise is what made many people to "hate" Twilight, however this have happenned all the time, and eventually it will be over but the books of Stephanie Meyer will always make happen good times to the people who read them in the future, will made them laugh and cry and that is what a good writter do THEY MAKE THEIR AUDIENCE FEEL JUST WITH THEIR OWN WORDS PRINTED ON PAPER.

Lindsay (vabookworm87) I didn't join this group to tell everyone that their taste in books sucks. My best friend loves the series. I prefer the Southern Vampire mysteries and she hates them. C'est la vie! The purpose of this post was to point out how overly intense the fans are. I have criticized a number of books in my reviews, and my Twilight reviews are the only ones I've received hate mail for. My original post is criticizing the crazy fans (and I grasp that not all of them are fanatical, just some), not the books.

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments Well Im glad you clarified that you didnt come here to bash everyones taste in books because thats definetly how it was starting to come off with comments like, "she has the writing skill level of a 14 year old girl" and "of course she'd sell 80 million copies... 12 year old girls aren't exactly stellar writers themselves."

I havent read the comments on your reviews but if they were anything like this then that probably explains why you were getting hate mail...because you were insulting the people who read the book and Stephenie Meyer.

If you really are a live and let live type person , then I would be more careful in the disdain that you show for fanatics of the series. Keep in mind that its probably the "crazy fans" that will be coming to YOUR site to enter the contest that you are advertising on OUR boards. We welcome everyone's opinions about the books, but when it turns to insulting the fans, thats when it gets personal because we are the fans, and some of us are fanatical!

So yeah i dont dislike twilight, i actually love it, but it takes me a lot to actually pick it up and read it. If that makes sense :S. i also think the series would have been a lot better if there hadnt been the whole jacob love triangle, i think that was just included to try and lift the series a bit.

Claudia the Night Owl (claudiamancilla) i like it but not in an obsessive way i also think kristen steward is a horrible actress

Lindsay (vabookworm87) I'm not a fan of Kristen's acting, but I like Rob less... he's not how I imagined Edward and I don't think he's very good looking :o/

message 59: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystal_f) | 1609 comments I always imagined Edward to be a little more built as far as physique goes! Not bodybuilder built but as we've said on the boards, he could definetly use a little work out! He's handsome in the movies, but in real life I really dont like the dirty disheveled hair look hes got going on.

message 65: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3 comments anyways if it was written by a mormon and they had strict rules about that sort of stuff i don't think that stephanie meyer would have written Breaking Dawn. personally i like both harry potter and twilight. i didn't like the movies much they seamed a bit boring . . . lindsay just dont pay attention to anything that they say about you. so what you dont like the books, i bet that half of the people that read them dont like them. . . . .

Kayla Duff Okay, this is killing me. Will one of you professional book people please tell me what on earth is wrong with Stephenie's writing????

Lindsay (vabookworm87) Kayla wrote: "Okay, this is killing me. Will one of you professional book people please tell me what on earth is wrong with Stephenie's writing????"

One thing that really stands out is her reliance on repetition to give the book any substance. You seriously could have melded all 4 books into a single book if it weren't for, "Edward is so beautiful" and "Alice is so beautiful" and "Edward is like a god" and on and on and on every other line. So much of the book is melodramatic repetition that it screams "poor quality writing".

Her writing reminds me of how some of my high school students write when they need to write a paper about something they never actually bothered to research. They rewrite a single concept a hundred different ways so it looks like it's three pages long, even though it truly amounts to a paragraph's worth of material.

That's just one of the things that stood out when I read the books. The list is rather extensive.

message 68: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Duff 1. She doesn't say that every other line, and she does a very good job of describing those things, not just saying them. It's not that repetitive.

2. She doesn't rewrite anything that much. High school students write way worse than that (no offense high schoolers) and while the stuff she describes may be a tiny bit repetitive, one concept takes up pretty much how much space it does on the page.

well if your students have nothing to envy the skills of Meyer then tell me where are their best sellers???, 'cause if would be so easy for them to write a book like Twilight( acording to you), they should write stories and sell millions of copies, right??? I mean that's easy money... why don't we all try that? maybe I should quit arquitecture and be a wealthy author cause that doesn't requires talent right???

You couldn't... you can't even spell your own profession. However there's no reason a normal person couldn't write and publish. Many of the authors I review are self published authors. Or if you want a large publishing company, all you need is an idea to pitch. They don't even necessarily have to be incredibly original ideas.

message 75: by Bekah (new)

Bekah Denton (bekah_) | 12 comments Its the plot of twilight that everyone fell in love with, not the quality of the prose.
For me it was the first book of that genre that i had ever read and i found it soooo gripping.
Once i started to read other books in the same genre i discovered that actually, twilight is quite poorly written. I also read the parody New Moan New Moan: The Twishite Saga - A Parody and it subtly makes fun of her writing, its makes you realise that her writing is quite bad. However, she never claims shes amazing or anything, and i think she wrote this for her own enjoyment rather than as a financial thing.

Unfortunately i cant speak spanish, i started to do spanish in school but had to switch to geography because it was so hard, french is so much easier, i'll learn to speak it fluently in the future:)

Manuel (argran) | 292 comments what people might say is "poorly written" I found it refreshing that's the cool about a reading that doesn't bored you because with sort of easy words she makes deeply and understandable metaphors, "Time passes. Even when it seems impossible. Even when each tick of the second hand aches like the pulse of blood behind a bruise. It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me". I like richest proses too but I like diferent books for diferents reasons.

Twilight is the only series in that genre that I actully like, I love the XIX century literature both realism and romanticism of Europe

message 80: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (vabookworm87) I prefer Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series. It's a bit more on the adult side of literature though, so it's not really appropriate for some Twilight readers. I started reading her books because a friend drew me to the HBO show True Blood. I'm a bigger fan of the books though. True Blood is ok for entertainment value, but a little on the cheesy side in comparison to the books.

hi
I just read your post and it made laugh a lot. Let me explain why i laugh... First I read the Twilight saga but i still can not understand what the fuss its all about. i think there are better books out there. Second i think the media had a lot to do with it, if you think about it every where that you look TV, Radio, Internet has something about Twilight actors. That is why it has become an obsession for tween. Third love what the characters are teaching... Edward character its kinda creepy. Too perfect, wanna do the right thing but he has kills people??? that was a little confusing for me. Bella character whinny, whinny , no self-esteem,codependent and on top of that she gets hot and bothered with Jacob and then try to have sex with Edward. Jacob character... well i think you see my point.
Going back to my point the books were good, they touch different topics and people should read book to have fun and enjoy them. I hope you don't get any more hate email fir expressing opinion.

I'm NOT a fan of Kristen's acting, I think that she doesn't know how to act at all. When I saw her in twilight i got a deja vu feeling but i just couldn't remember the name of the movie. A few months later surfing the channels i found the movie SPEAK where kristen in the main character also and she acts the same way. The voice, the hair everything is the same. I watched the movie and the whole time i was waiting for Edward or Jacob to show up... lol

Forgive me for not agreeing. I don't like Kristen because she smokes and seems to have a crappy attitude (no offense to people who smoke, i have just had some bad experiences) but she seems to act pretty convincingly in the Twilight movies. However, not much can be said on my opinion because I am thirteen and have probably seen about a sixth the number of movies the majority of you have.

Ice Blue, but it's not completely finished yet. I am still trying to find a good publishing agency and everything. There's a prologue from it in my writing, but it's from a while ago when I first started writing it, so the actual thing has been revised over and over since then.
