When I first thought about building a website, I bought lots of books through the years on how to ...No HTML required - yeah right, it was required in each book. I was obviously looking for a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) front end.
Riviting stuff, huh?
I found Wix.com - I was nearly finished the site, got my domain name, tried to get Hosting...I found that I can't move my website from Wix, but I can point my domain name to Wix - Wix does not host (so they say) Where I bought my domain name will transfer the registration of the domain name, but not the hosting. Phew.
So, from what I can make out. I need to point my domain name that's on FASTHOSTS to the Wix site, but to use wix in that way I need to pay. I'm unsure if I need to pay Fasthosts too? I read Fasthosts Terms & Cons (yawwwwn) it didn't tell me anything except - we're not liable for anything except taking the money. bahh humbug!

And let me reiterate - free hosting and free online webdesign panels aren't worth the money you pay for them.
Cheers Paul. That apears to be the conclusion. If I had to start again and if I learned anything, is to get everything straight, research what you need for a website, how much do you get for the money, where to go, do you keep all your eggs in one basket? The list goes on, but I now know a lot more than I did when I jumped in with both feet, and sank right up to my chin. Advice, don't do it. Do your homework before starting anything about your website. Don't learn the hard way.
Jeez! believe it or not, I hate the whole website thing and having to know about pings and pops and things that go bump in the server.
So, I reakon that if you want to start, manage and pay for all aspects of your website and it is dependant on book sales then my sales dictates that the site etc should be free :)
I understand what you say Paul, and I think developing the website offline then doing the who, where, why, how much is the sensible approach, unfortunatly, I'm a numpty.
Note: Wix now does hosting. My domainname doesn't appear on FastHost at all now, it's transfered to HeartInternet (free hosting)
Question: Do you think it wise to (as you mentioned) delevop offline, then find a hosting etc - or - for ease transfer domainname to Wix and get up and going?
Any suggestions as to the best deal etc?
Signed. Confused dot com :)
