one thing i really like and noticed from the beginning and really, before i even read it. she makes sure to place emphasize on finding "the self" and actually, this is what the book is saying through the characters especially flan who is the main character. although i dont agree with how she presents someone finding themselves, its the idea that i like, find interesting and have congenial feelings towards. since the thought of finding "the Self" is coming from the main characters makes it even harder to understand what flans "quest" was like to finding her "the self" for lack of better words. it makes it harder to find because of the way flan is describing her way she felt she had found her "the self". i feel that flan is trying to say that finding ones "the self" is exactly that,a type of journey or adventure of some kind. this way of lookin at finding yourself is hard to really understand because this is a way that i do not agree with what so ever. i think the though of finding "the self" as gayle brandeis says is not something you should try to find but something you gain with the experience of life.
