Youndyc | 1255 comments I love mimosas.

Today is brutally hot. But I just got back from sitting outside at a restaurant on the patio with a fan blowing and the sun shining and the sky blue and drinking mimosas. It was lovely.

My favorite flavor is cranberry-pineapple, but there's also mango, pear, peach, traditional (orange juice), and combinations.

Which is your favorite?

Whoa. I've never had any flavor but orange!

message 3: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments You gotta try the others! They are yummy. Around here everyone offers various flavors. And I was laughing because we went to get breakfast at this crappy little hamburger/sandwich/breakfast-on-sundays place and THEY had about 7 different mimosa flavors.

My tipsy is definitely wearing off. Now I'm getting sleepy.

This question shocks me!

message 8: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments Guess I thought mimosas were all over the place and not regional.

Félix (habitseven) Mimosas are pretty widely distributed. They're a foundation for any respectable brunch.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments When I was a kid, my aunt and uncle had a tradition of serving a Sunday brunch of sorts to us on occasion - mimosas with S.O.S:

My uncle was in the navy. The only place I've ever had either was in their home. The mimosas with o.j. are all I ever needed. They didn't need to be fancied up. And yes, as kids we drank alcohol- my family's Cajun.

message 18: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments By the way, I've always tried to NOT think of what the "S.O.S." in "S.O.S." stands for - it's a rather unappetizing name for a rather unappetizing looking meal (which tastes pretty good).

message 19: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments sausage on saltines?

It looks gross, but I'm going to trust you that it tastes good.

I know I grew up in the south and all, and I'm supposed to love biscuits and gravy, but it just turns my stomach - I never could stand that white gravy. My grandmother used to make it all the time, usually out of sausage grease. ::shudder::

smetchie | 4034 comments shit on shingles?

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Sausage, sausage grease, sausage gravy - all the major food groups.

What's not to like?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Gretchen wrote: "shit on shingles?"

YES!

message 23: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Youndy, I'm not much on gravy, either... but S.O.S. isn't made out of grease. It's meat with gravy and some seasoning and it's typically served over toast or biscuits... and sometimes over rice or noodles.

We always had it over buttermilk biscuits, so it wasn't completely utilitarian.

message 24: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments I must have heard it somewhere because there's no way I just guessed that.

I drank a bit of alcohol at home as a kid too. Stuff like Mimosas on special occasions.

message 25: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Creamed chipped beef is the official term.

Sarah | 13814 comments This is the perfect thread in which to bring up the fact that Burger King is testing brunch in a couple of markets. Their brunch is a breakfast sandwich on ciabatta and non-alcoholic mimosas using OJ and SPRITE.

Yikes.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments That is not a mimosa. That is punch.
