I really like the "Pick it for Me" challenge. You pick several books and say why you loved them and the other person who is matched to you picks from the list and vice versa. It's made me read books I would never think of picking up.
I think a "Pick It For Me" challenge would be cool. Also, I started this in the Paranormal Romance group, but I think it might be cool to do here, too. It's the "Pick It For Me - What Do I Read Next?" challenge. The idea is that if you're undecided about what to read next, or you just want someone to choose for you, someone can pick the next book for you to read from your to-read list. And you can be as specific as you want, like "please pick from my romance shelf" or "pick between these three books," etc. I think it's a cool idea for when you're feeling stuck and the idea of having someone else pick for you is fun. We could do a monthly "Pick It For Me" challenge for new recs and then the other one could just be an on-going thing.
Where will the pick it for me books will be coming from? Will it be a book that some name and people have to get the book if they don't own it?
Harper and Carolyn, please feel free to start the challenges. I've never participated, but it sounds fun.
Arch, There are "Pick It For Me" challenges in two groups that I'm in. One group only allows us to pick one book, and it has to be something new to your partner. Basically, you look at their shelves and recommend something they haven't read that you think they'd enjoy based on their reading preferences. In another group, they have us recommend 4 new books and 4 books already on our partner's to-read list. So, depending on how they wanted to work the challenge in this group, you might have to buy a new book (or get it from the library).
For the "What Do I Read Next?" challenge that I suggested, the rec would come from your to-read list. Whether or not you had to buy it would depend on if you already owned it. But, in that case, you could just ask someone to choose between books you already own so you don't have to spend any money.

Arch, they're kind of fun. I tend to do the longer duration, more general challenges. I have trouble with the monthly ones.

I like the one you have given us.

I just posted the challenge, Danielle! I'd make a post asking for a rec to start it off, but I already have a lot books to read for challenges this month. Hopefully some of the other ladies in the group will start posting. :)
I think some will participate. I was surprised at how many people are doing the Prove Your Love for the Bad Boys Challenge.

Well, I do love the bad boys.

I'll participate, but I have to be given a good length of reading time.

You're just asking for them to suggest the next book for you, and you can take as long as you want to read it. :)
Should be do another challenge this year, or leave it at the Spell It Out Challenge? I have a couple of ideas for future challenges. One is kind of long, so I'm thinking of making it a year long challenge. One is fairly short but I don't know if Oct to December is long enough, especially with the holiday season. What are your thoughts?
Oooo liking the sound of a year long challenge! Making me excited for 2011 now Danielle :D! I'm not sure about a short one I'd love to say yes but it's that tricky time of year really...
I've challenges coming from my pals at the Booktalk thread on another site that will keep me busy during the fall, but if you come up with an Oct.-Dec. challenge here I'm sure I can find a way to do both, after all, I read over 35 books in the average month. I guess whether I commit to a challenge in this group or not depends on the nature of the challenge.
Maybe I'll just hold on until next year. I'm thinking things get way too busy towards the end of the year. But I'll plan for some good ones next year.
Please let me know if you have any ideas!

I have been getting very busy with work lately, so if it's more than one book in a challenge i like to have a yearly challenge. Will it be similar to the Prove your love....categories? I really liked them.
I love the challenges and think a year long challenge for 2011 is a great ideal. What ever is decided about the oct-dec challenge is fine by me.
I have an idea for a mega sort of challenge for next year. I'm still getting the ideas together and I'll let you all know towards the end of the year.
Sigh just found out the next few months won't be that busy for me now, when are you going to release the info on the year long challenge? :)

I'd love a mega challenge for next year! Lol, need to get by the one I'm currently in. Unfortunately, I hadn't banked on uni being such a pain again. Sigh. Thank goodness next year is my last with only one module left to tackle!
Now that I finished Spell it out (was too late for the prove your love one) I'm super excited about a year long one!! Though if it doesn't start until next year thats fine with me. Winter holiday season is super busy.
But am totally up for a year long one! Fun!!
I'm glad to hear it, TGF. I'm working on the super-challenge for next year. I should post something about it by the end of this month/early december, hopefully.
I'm in the process of coming up with challenges for next year. The poll so far is showing that members would like to have another mega-challenge and other challenges throughout the year. I am aiming at having some quarterly challenges. Dhestiny (who is a challenge guru) has agreed to help me come up with some challenge ideas. Most likely around mid-late November or early December, I will post 2012's Mega-Challenge.
Unless someone has the time and the enthusiasm to set up a monthly challenge, I probably won't do monthly ones. I just don't have the time for it, honestly.
If you are interested in being in charge of a monthly challenge on the group, please let me know! The other option is to have a sign-up sheet in which different members are in charge of a monthly challenge.
I am looking for input and ideas, so don't be shy if you have some good ideas. You can PM me privately if you'd prefer.

Will we still be having the monthly group reads? Because I've really enjoyed them and would prefer them to monthly challenges!
The monthly group reads aren't going away. That's entirely separate, and they will continue. I'm glad you are liking the monthly group reads, Ally.
I don't know how you all feel about this, but I think a great challenge would be to see how many of you I could get to come to my house and pull weeds.
Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress wrote: "I want some of that action too, Dhestiny!"Jill wrote: "Then could you all possibly come to Australia and do mine???:-)"
No, this challenge is limited to my house.
**grumbles** Challenge stealers.
That's a good idea, Scarlett. It's a bit off theme for the group (since this is a hero-focused group), but I'll think about it.
Hey, behind every great hero is a mediocre heroine who has to work out some crap to be worthy of the hero. Then she's no longer mediocre but amazing! But that's the way it is for me with ALL books. I always seem to love the hero immediately and the heroine has to prove herself to me.
Surely there's a name for people like me who are harder on the female characters than the male.
