I go through stages- reading alot of books by members as well as thrillers and historical fiction- fun togo from WASH DC 2011 to London 1831!
I usually read more than one book ar a time, but if I'm really interested in a book I read it until the end without reading other books in between. The book Memoirs of a Geisa has been on my currently reading list ever since I've been on Goodreads. I haven't actually been reading it since I own it. I usually just read it when I'm waiting for a book at the library or something like that.

I hear you, but someone told me it was schizophrenic of me to try to read more than one book at a time. I replied, "then how in the world did you make it through school, where that was always required? I guess the same way most of us manage to stay abreast of more than one TV show or balance our projects at work for that matter.
I believe a lot depends upon what we tell ourselves, the content of what we read and our interest level. I balance three books at a time. Some storylines pull me through quickly, others are slow reads only and still others ebbs and flows cannot be sustained for long periods of time.
Don't be amazed. You did it at some point in your life, I'm sure. Maybe you just don't want to do it again, which is understandable.

My list is way to big also and I always try to read all the books but I keep adding more books so it's never ending. I like to read more than one book at a time so I could shorten my list and also so I could have a variety of stories to think about.

There are just so many great books out there and not enough time to read them all :)

I think of it as being the same thing as watching TV serials - like House, One and a Half Men, etc.

I know a book is perfect for me when that's all I want to read. But perfection is hard for me to find.

sounds like a well thought out plan!!! Kindle's are no Mark Spitz's!

my three books going now are going...actually pretty well!

I always used to read one book at a time but now I tend to have two or three on the go. That's usually because I am reading something for a book group, something that's maybe more of a classic so it's best taken slowly and then something lighter and more easily digestible.
I'm like Beatrix too, I have different books for different places - one that I'll read in the bath, one that I'll have in my handbag for whenever I'm travelling somewhere. I always like to have a book to hand. :)

Some of my Kindling friends tell me they cannot deal with the computer voice. In the same way I use my imagination to amplify a book to a level usually not matchable by its movie, I can imagine that the t2s voice (choice of male or female) is anyone ... Larry Olivier, Kate Hepburn, Kevin Spacey, Annette Benning, the voice in my head, or even James Mason. I choose to allow the computer voice to humorously endear itself to me when it erroneously pronounces mmmmm to indicate a delightful taste as em em em em em. Listening to my manuscript on my Kindle before publishing it at the Kindle Store caused me to abandon the name Cal for one of my characters. When his name occurred at the end of a sentence terminated with a period, t2s was calling him California.
Recently, I've been Kindling two books, since one of them, A Moveable Feast, is not enabled for t2s. I started a second to have a story for commutes. I'm doing the Hemingway book as a prelude to reading The Paris Wife and because Chris Orcutt, a writer I respect, calls it his favorite and reads it yearly.
I tend to shy away from buying Kindle books that do not have t2s enabled, making exceptions for very favorite authors and situations like the one I just mentioned. Those read-only downloads are generally saved for stretches of vacation time when commutes, like me, are on hiatus.

I am definately in my 3 books ata time mood! current thriller, historical fiction, and a non-fiction book
though I place member writers' books at the top of the list!
