Ms. Nikki (miznikki) POSSIBLE SPOILER:

It's easy to get burned out. I read a book a day and series can become formulaic when reading back to back (try doing that with Christine Feehan to see for yourself).
I now skim the pages when the lessers become the topic. I finished Lover Mine this morning and I agree with the others that it was more UF than PNR. Me and Xhex are not friends nor will we ever be (as I stated on other forums). Qhuinn p'd me off. I know the reason, but it still didn't change anything because obviously Blay does not care as much about the Glimera. I kept wishing something miraculous would happen and John would be able to "voice" his love, but alas, still mute. I found the last 2 books to be fillers for either a change to UF or to a better book. Too many characters and not enough moving plot made this an "I liked it" but it was nothing special. By the end of the book they are still at the same place in the fight against lessers as when it started.
To me, it did not live up to the hype. If this wasn't J.R. Ward's work it would have just been an "ok" read.

It depends on the person. Me i like to just finish them all in one go, but there are people that need a little something in between each book.LOL

Yes, please! Although I don't mind spoilers, i know most people do, so lets try to stick with the books that we're reading for that month and ones before then. Right now we can talk about the series in general, like we've been doing, or the firt book in the series.

message 56: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments I'm not sure it is but wouldn't trying be great?

Picture a few uninterrupted days to do nothing but lie on the couch and read the entire series! No husbands, no kids, no job, housework or pets.

Pure bliss (with no burnout, I'm sure)

I finished Lover Eternal. I have to say honestly that I liked the first book, but I didn't love it. I really liked this one a lot more. I'm not sure if it was because there seemed to be less "lesser" focus in this book. I'm like some of you, I skim any lesser or baby powder mention. Although, I paid attention to the Bella/O interaction. I found O's attraction to Bella interesting. I was more interested in the Rhage/Mary love story, Zsadist/Bella/Phury developing story and the Tohr/Wellsie/John story. I can't wait to start Lover Awakened.

Gigi | 1149 comments I wish I could contribute more to the UF vs. paranormal discussion. I haven't read enough of either to weigh in. As for historicals, I try not to take them too seriously. I'm looking for a good story. I think I can overlook anything in a good story. I like Alpha males in my fantasy world on paper. I would be sentenced to serve some serious jail time if I encountered one in real life. LOL

Ez (ezrah-rah) | 387 comments Gigi,

I liked "Lover Eternal" a lot more than "Dark Lover" and I liked "Lover Awakened" even more than either one of them. It's by far my fave in the series. I hope you like it!

message 61: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Thanks Harper. I'm feeling the same so far. I thought the first 2 started kind of slow. However, I just started it and already I've found the pace to be a bit faster. I already sucked in! LOL

LOL. It took me a while to warm up to Marissa. She isn't one of my faves. I'm a M/M romance/slash fangirl so I was rooting for Butch to wind up with someone else. Not mentioning names to avoid possible spoilers. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Gigi | 1149 comments Ok, so I have a question. Would you suggest that someone buy Lover Revealed or get a library copy? I've heard mixed reviews about this book.

I'm getting the library copy of the insiders guide today. If I like it, I'll buy it.

Still working on Lover Awakened- should be done today.

I just finished it. Wow! What a good read! Yes, I needed tissue. Especially, with what happened to Tohr and Wellsie. OMG! I really really really want him to get his HEA. He deserves it. Poor John "father...father...father" -ok, that tore me up. Well, I still have my 4 favs (Tohr, Phury, Zadist and JM) and now after reading this I couldn't tell you who is in what position after Tohr. LOL I could see me adding Rehv to that list down the line, but I need to know more about him. I really enjoyed Z's transformation throughout the book. I definitely think this is the best book so far. Next up Lover Revealed.

edited to add: OMG! I completely forgot Vishous. So, I guess thats 5 favs now. LOL

I cannot describe to you how pissed off I was about what happened with Wellsie. I liked her a lot. In a way, I don't even want Tohr to wind up with someone else. Poor Wellsie. T_T

As for favorites, Z is my favorite hands down, no contest. I love Rhage, too, and I was a big Vishous fan in the beginning.

Harper, I know!!! I really liked Wellsie a lot. There would be no replacing her in my mind, but I still want Tohr to have his HEA (whatever that would be). I loved the interaction between Tohr and Wellsie and I loved how easily they "adopted" JM. The part that sticks out in my head was when Tohr went to get JM from the apartment. JM is a bit wary of Tohr until Tohr gets the phone call from Wellsie. LOL

I know that Tohr returns. My heart kind of broke for JM. I'm wondering what the relationship would be like once Tohr returns. I can see JM being a bit angry at Tohr for leaving despite the circumstance. Now, I'm trying to get through the other books as fast as possible. LOL

Theres a bit of irony in the fact that the calmest one was forced to face something so devastating which could potentially make him angry. And the angriest one was forced to face something that calms him. LOL

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments ***SPOILERS FOR LOVER REVEALED****

So I finished Lover Revealed today. WHEW. I was so inspired (and hot and bothered, as well, ;P) that I took the time to write a review - and dammit, three edits later I can't get this link to work. Hope you can all go to my review so I don't have to retype it here!

message 83: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Oh the error you made was at the end where you placed "", it should be (>whatyoucallyourlinkthen). Just ignore the parenthesis and you have it fixed.

I liked this book too, though the m/m fan in me was hoping for another outcome.LOL

message 84: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 194 comments Harper and I were sending PMs today about that very thing -- I thought what was there was beautifully done - especially the scene where V watches them (heartbreaking and hot at the same time!) but you are right, it could QUITE easily have had another outcome.

Gigi | 1149 comments Lover Revealed spoiler

LOL. I just finished it also. I felt bad for V also. Even though Butch was happy with Marissa, when they (Butch and V) interacted at the ceremony and when V was on the balcony, there was a part of me that wanted more to happen between them. I don't know I guess I just wanted everyone to be happy. LOL

Ah, my love for the tortured hero continues. I closed the book liking V a lot more. Now I'm dying to read Lover Unbound.

Thanks YZ for recommending that I buy the book. You were absolutely right! I definitely want this book in my library.

**Possible Spoiler**

Well, I'm not sure what I think -- it is pretty different from the others in terms of the love story (I used the words dark and dirty earlier today on my status update). There are a whole lot of secondary stories going on, which is fairly annoying. I'm not feeling like Ward was loving Vishous as much when she wrote this book as she did in the last book. And that ticks me off. What did you think of this one, Rhossy?

message 92: by Ez (last edited May 19, 2010 01:09AM) (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) | 387 comments Don't mind me as I jump in...

Tammy, I thought LU was okay until the ending...which irritates me to this very day, so I'm interested in hearing what you think of it. If you think all of the secondary stories are annoying in LU, wait until you get to "Lover Enshrined."

message 93: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I have to agree with Harper. I like the book well enough up until the end, that kind of ruined it for me. While i understand the Warden's reasons for it, i still don't like it.LOL
Honestly, i don't mind the secondary stories she usually entwines. As long as the main characters have enough space, to make their romance believable to me.

message 94: by Ez (new)

Ez (ezrah-rah) | 387 comments That was my main complaint about LEn, Rossy. I don't mind sub-plots to an extent, but I felt like the main couple in that book barely got any "screen time," so to speak. I wasn't feeling their romance at all.

message 95: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) I agree with Harper, too, about the ending of LU. It just didn't seem like the right way to end it to me, even though I did understand the reasons. However, like Rossy, I usually like the secondary stories, too. I didn't like in LEn, though, that there were SO MANY side stories. Like Harper said, they got way too much page time.

Jump away, Harper! I also thought it was ok until the ending -- I am still really ticked about it. My own fault, really, for so looking forward to Vishous's story after all the build up from the previous book. If I were wearing shitkickers, and Ms. Ward was handy, I'd kick her right in the you-know-what for screwing Vishous's story over. He deserved much better.

Rhossy and Leah - you say you understand the reasons Ward ended the book the way she did. Can you guys enlighten me?

message 97: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Tammy wrote: "I'm not sure where Gigi is, but I'm about halfway through.."

Hi!

Sorry, I'm still reading it! I'll weigh in when I get a bit further in. Uh-oh, from the tone of a few of the posts (purposely haven't read them all) I can see that I need to lower my expectations a bit.

message 98: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Well i didn't feel that way until recently because the Warden addressed the issue. I can't recall right now it it was at a signing or the recent chat, but a fan asked why Jane couldn't be changed back or something in that context. She said something about it being right for V that she ended this way, because of his curse. See it seems that Jane becomes solid when HE touches her. He wouldn't be able to touch her with his "cursed" hand otherwise.

Take into account this is not word by word.LOL! For more accuracy you should check the BDB group, Warden News.

Hmm...I still don't think that changes how I feel about the ending. LOL. He could have still touched her with his "cursed" hand as long as he kept the glove on, right?

I have a bit of a glove fetish. ^_^;
