I just wanted to let you all know that I'm reading Desire Unchained now. The heat of the first book didn't scare me off. I'm pressing on..

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess I'll wait and see what the others say... I don't want to rock the boat... LOL.. geez. I feel a little embarrased now..

But I'm happy to answer questions if people have them..

Mhollie | 29 comments From a male's point of view, what do you think of it as a whole? I loved the heat of it & glad it didn't scare you off.

I love this series so far! It was a bit of culture shock at first to read both the first Demonica book and the first Black Dagger Brotherhood back at the same time. I am used to a few love scenes in a book, but I had never read a Romance or Erotica book before. After getting over my initial embarrasment, I found that I actually really enjoyed both books. I haven't read many books by female authors prior to this as I never really thought they would be able to "get" the male psyche. I am happy to admit that I was very wrong...

Pleasure Unbound and Desire Unchained have been very fast reads for me. The pages fly by. I like how Ione depicts her characters as passionate, yet conflicted. They are always struggling against certain aspects of their nature (just like humans). I like the fact that her male lead characters are neither androgynous effiminates or completely ridiculous "Superhero" figures. While they are Demons, they each have unique personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.

So, the long answer to your question, Mollie, is that I love this series. I love the heat of the scenes, I love the sexual tension between the characters, I love the fact that the dialogue flows well, and I love the fact that the plots are coherent and don't jump all over the place.

Mhollie | 29 comments Thanks for the long & the short of it. It makes my heart glad that you enjoy them. I would love it my boyfriend would take a chance on DBD. I would love to be able to discuss them with him. I am glad you posted this. Now I can pick your brain when I am in need of a man's perspective on these books. Thanks much! I sure you'll be hearing from me again. Happy reading!

Mhollie | 29 comments Yea Verily!

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Now I'm blushing.... Stop it...

message 8: by Mhollie (new)

Mhollie | 29 comments Blush away. We'll give credit where credit is due. All too soon the blush will be off the rose. Take where you can get it.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL! Good point..

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to say that although I personally relate to the character of Eidolon more, Desire Unchained is hot! Shade is a fascinating character and the palpable tension between him and Runa is incredible!

I'm not really into the whole BDSM thing but the scenes are smoking... I just read the shower scene.. Wow

message 11: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments haha
Shade is one of my favorites, then Lore then Wraith. well, I guess they are all my favorites. but the scenes only get hotter...

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh crap... They get hotter?!?!

Geez.. I don't know how much more I can handle. LOL

Shade is an absolute beast. I think I'm more Eidolon - the more conservative and analytical one. I can't even imagine being like Wraith or Roag...

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Vale,

I can see what you mean. I'm nearing the end of Shade's book and although I've enjoyed it, it hasn't been the same as Pleasure Unbound. I thought maybe it was just because I can't really relate to Shade as easily...

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

For me it did change when I realized why Shade had all the BDSM stuff. If it was just kink, it would have been a definite turn off.

The book ended well and I'm looking forward to book 3, but first I have to read the second BDB book..

message 15: by Mhollie (new)

Mhollie | 29 comments Shade's book was my least favorite of the series because I couldn't connect with him very much. Now Wraith's was my favorite. I love his cocky wit.

POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!!!!
Hope you enjoy Rhage's book. He is my favorite of the Brothers. Probably because he is missing the same brain/mouth filter that I am. So I sympathize with him a lot.

message 16: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments lol @ mollie, rhage cracks me up!

message 17: by new_user (new)

new_user Glad you liked the books, Jon. I really like the relationship between the brothers. Like you said, the dialogue isn't scripted and the trash-talking is realistic, LOL. That's the best. I relate to Eidolon the most too. I should start a thread for him! LOL.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah! Where's the love for Eidolon?!?!

All this love for the other brothers is starting to hurt my feelings... I guess it's because I'm more Eidolon than Shade or Wraith..

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user Me too. More logical and calm. I can't really relate to the other brothers running on impulse, LOL. I don't mind reading them though. Makes for some entertaining conversation. ;)

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I LOVE Eidolon he so sexy and in a Doctor way (LOL)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 19 comments Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jon.

message 22: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments hmmm if i had to pick one.... i go with Wraith. the things he can do in your mind.... lol.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

ha ha Lauren

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments haha seriously i have been daydreaming all day, who needs to work.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for having my back Cynthia.. I guess it would be cool to mess with people's minds, but I'm most like Eidolon I guess. If I meet anyone like Roag, I'll officially be scared..

message 26: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. Always like to have a man's PoV. :)

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll do the best I can... LOL

Although right now I'm cheating in Demonica by reading Lover Eternal..

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh yeah, and Vale, I'm not sure how "masculine" my point of view is... LOL.. it is male, but masculine... hmmmm... I'm not exactly Rambo. LOL

message 29: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. You don't have to be Rambo. Is he the ideal? LOL.

We want your opinion on the BDB too! LOL!

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I definitely wouldn't think of Rambo as the ideal.. but then again, I don't really have the inside track on what women want.. LOL

I'm loving the BDB! I find myself caring about the characters more than in the Demonica series (sorry).. But Larissa definitely writes a hotter love scene..

message 31: by Shari (new)

Shari (charboneau) Jon wrote: "I'm loving the BDB! I find myself caring about the characters more..."

I would have to agree! I love the BDB series and those brothers are hot, but Larissa's love scenes definitely ROCK!

message 32: by new_user (new)

new_user Yes, I agree too, LOL.

message 33: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments oh boy those are all my favorite series

message 34: by Shari (new)

Shari (charboneau) Oh that is right. I have the first couple of anita blake books, which I want to start too!

Not enough time cuz I want to read them all NOW!!!!

message 35: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments oh shari, you still haven't read them yet???? oh get on that lol.

message 36: by Shari (new)

Shari (charboneau) I know I can't decide if i should start that series or finish dark hunters...... such a dilemma lol

message 37: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments hmm which dark hunter you up too?

message 38: by Shari (new)

Shari (charboneau) Lol, i'm on #4 Kiss of Night. I think I have a ways to go before I get close to finishing,

message 39: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments yeah you do. lol i think book 5 or 6 gets a little boring you can read anita then hahahaha.

message 40: by Shari (new)

Shari (charboneau) lol sounds like a plan!

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I actually just started my first Laurell K Hamilton book - Guilty Pleasures..

message 42: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments how you like it? i didn't start really getting into it until about 3rd or 4th book. Now I love them!

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not very far into it yet - I'm actually listening to it on audiobook, so I listen whenver I'm driving. It's pretty good so far.. nothing very exciting has happened at this point. I'm still just trying to get to know the characters and how Hamilton's world works. Anita is at the Guilty Pleasures strip club right now... a vampire strip club - that cracked me up!

message 44: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments haha! it gets much better. I love that most of the strip clubs are vamps and weres lol.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah. The characters seem pretty good so far. I'm still trying to get a feel for Anita. I'm trying to guess who she'll hook up with... probably all of them! LOL

message 46: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments hahahaha, good guess.
After a while she drove me nuts. you want to just smack her.

message 47: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. From what I've heard about the series, that guess is right on the money, LOL.

message 48: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 100 comments lol, yeah but you fall in love with almost all of them. one of them you develope that love/hate thing. lol
