I Love the Sookie books. I haven't read Dead in the Family yet since I just can't bring myself to spend almost $10 on a book that's barely over 300 pgs! Plus, Dead & Gone did not float my boat all that much. Still, I consider myself a fan and will continue with the series.

I love True Blood too, I've gotten through Season 3, but all I have to say is What the EFF have the writers of that show been smoking?! (view spoiler)[ (Especially Season 2 - the tree of meat?! What?!) (hide spoiler)] I've come to realize that I can love both the books and the show if I consider them to be completely separate entities, they just both contain some of the same characters! That way I can enjoy the show without going "That's not how it happens!" They have changed SO much that it's barely recognizable, so in order to like it, that's what I do.

I feel the same way. I can't stand buying hardback copies because of the price.

There are only a couple of authors that I will buy hardbacks for the same reason.

I just checked where I am and am #5 with 22 copies ordered. So I will be getting it right away.

In the past I would be much more excited, but the last couple of books have been so so.

I have been not been thrilled with the last couple of books either....I actually canceled my pre-order of the hard back copy I figured I would wait for used copies to be available and will check the book out from the library or get the audio from Audible.....

Dead and Gone was not bad I was just not happy with what she did to some of the characters...but this last one Dead in the Family really seemed like filler...she could have cut quite a bit out and made it a short story for one of the anthologies she she does...

I read Dead Reckoning and it was fine though not great. Idk if its nostalgia but I feel like the previous books had a lot more 'fire' in them. I feel like there is a weariness in both Sookie and the books? I still enjoy the books though. They're a fast read

Something that I find kind of annoying of Sookie is the way she immediately judges Jannalyn. I thought it was ridiculous how she thought to comment on her and Sam's relationship because he's older then her by a decade, while Sookie is the one that is banging a guy a 100 times her age. I hope Sookie and Jannalyn become friends over time

I read this one last week and I do think it was better than the last one.

I get what you are saying Zuleika about Jannalyn. I think it is because she is really jealous of anyone Sam dates. While she isn't dating him, it seems like he is her plan b, so anyone that does Sam could throw that into chaos.

As for Eric, (view spoiler)[for me this sort of makes sense. The vamps in this book are very political. So while Eric loves Sookie, he has 1000 years of conditioning that politics stand over everything. To me Eric is sick to death about this, to the point that he would fight Pam. He knows Sookie is going to freak out and he is doing his best to get out of it. I have a feeling that he won't be able to do that unless he breaks with the system, which he may have to being that he killed the man vamp in this book. (hide spoiler)]

That is how I felt when reading it...I did like this one better then the last two.... as for Eric (view spoiler)[ from what I have read Charlaine has always said that sookie will not end up with a vamp for her HEA and she will never be turned....by setting up a political marriage she is setting the stage for her to break with Eric...and based on the ending of this book I would venture a guess that in the first few chapters of the next one they will "break up" (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Wow I read somewhere that Sookie would never be turned, but her not ending up with a vamp is completely new to me! I always figured Eric or maybe Bill would be endgame and that her fairy blood (and thats she's becoming more 'fairy' everyday) would deal with the aging process. Hmm now I have to rethink everything!

So, I finally read Dead Reckoning. I don't know what to think. (view spoiler)[ I get that maybe she shouldn't end up with a vamp if she won't become one, but then why do you leave her and Eric's relationship going until there's only 2 books left? Start the transition earlier. It sounded like she was setting Sam up a little bit, but who knows. Bill has been out of the picture for so long that I'd be less surprised if she hooked up with Bubba than Bill. Although, the naked part could be hinting at that. Who knows. I'm just sorry to see Eric act like a whinny little bitch. That's not him and I got pissed off when he acted that way. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished Deadlocked. (view spoiler)[ I didn't realize this until the end, but there wasn't any sex in the book. I'm a little surprised. Also, it was kind of bland. Even though all kinds of things were going, I wasn't worried for Eric, didn't seem to surprised about Claude, and it was obvious what was going to happen to Sam. Fun being back in the world, but bland across the board. (hide spoiler)]

I have honestly only read the first book I decided to go ahead and give it another shot even though I didnt like some of the things the first time that I tried to read it. Sookie was still annoying and Bill is uuugh. I have no words for him but he is a creepy creepy person and he seems to be some what of a user.

They dont have a real relationship its more of highschool/middle school he is my boyfriend we talk on the phone, sometimes kiss and other stuff kind of relationship. Nothing deep and I don't take it seriously at all.

I think the other guy in the book was named Sam. I liked him the best out of all the characters he is prob the only thing that will have me read the next two books that I own.

It was with this book that I now don't like Eric, I don't like the way he treated Sookie at the beginning and again at the end. It also made me realize that Eric is a weak person, he really needs a strong leader around him.

Deadlocked (view spoiler)[See, I didn't really end up hating him for the same reasons. I get the rational for his dumb stunt early on. I'd still be pissed, but ... The problem is that Eric isn't really acting like a guy in love. He saw her a few times. Even though she's pissed, he could have acted more loving when they were together. Him "testing" her at the end... I'm not sure if he's just hoping there's an easy option out or if he just doesn't know what to do. Everything he wanted before Sookie, vs love that'll only last until she dies. I get the predicament. What really ticked me off is after what happened to Sam. There's no way I'd stick with someone that doesn't stand by your side after an event like that in order to make sure you're okay emotionally. That's where there was just no possible explanation, even if it's flimsy, for why he would react that way. (hide spoiler)]

did it bother anyone else that the situation with Eric in the beginning doesn't make any sense with anything else Harris has indicated before? (view spoiler)[ 1. We've been told Eric needs to take an occasional sip at his age, making his taking from others unnecessary. 2. Harris indicates in this book that he doesn't use synthetic to supplement his blood needs, which he clearly does in previous books. And 3. If Sookie and Eric have been dating for nearly a year, how would they never have discussed his feeding from others and boundaries during said feedings? I find it creepy and bothersome that Sookie's primary concern is that he is feeding rather than the sexual context (maybe I'm a prude) (hide spoiler)] Granted Harris has a lot of issues with being consistent but it is usually with obnoxious small details like where her newspaper is, not things that dramatically effect the plot.

Other than that, I thought Deadlocked was a vast improvement over Dead Reckoning. There is a lot left unresolved at the end of this book leaving me wanting the next one.

Colleen you bring up good points. Maybe the whole feeding issue is a case of don't ask, don't tell, that if Sookie can't/hasn't seen it, she doesn't think of it.
