I should probably make a Harper thread.

I also really enjoyed the Haroer Connelly series! I read them all in July and fell in love with Charlaine's writing all over again... but the editing in the books was atrocious!

Samantha | 432 comments I happened to stop by Harris' website tonight and saw the cover for her next Sookie installment. I hadn't seen a picture of it yet.

Angela B that's kinda....ugly

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments They are all kinda Ugly! Not pretty covers!

message 56: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I like the covers on the Sookie books! They're different from everything else out there.

message 57: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I like the cartoony aspect of them. They seem fun and that is what they are.

message 58: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) I actually prefer them to the True Blood covers, they're whimsical and fun.

message 59: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I HATE the True Blood covers.

message 60: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments I just think the cartoon ones are a little funny. If I was walking through the store, they are not something I think I would look at and just pick up. Does that make sense?

message 61: by Angela (new)

Angela B I resisted reading this series for a long time cuz I hated the covers

message 62: by Angela (new)

Angela B I wasn't super impressed with book one either but I liked 2 and 3 more...that's as far as I've gotten though

I hope it's better than Dead in the Family. It was good but I though it seemed like an in-between book.

Same here, but after starting the series I love the covers and I'm glad they stand out from the rest. They've definitely grown on me.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 185 comments The story/series really starts to pick up at book 3.

message 66: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments I thought that 1 was ok, I liked 2, 3, and loved 4. Had a hard time getting into #5 and started 6 but just could not finish it. Should I try 6 again and continue on?

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 185 comments hmmmm...there is some important stuff in book 6 but if you could not finish it you might want to skip ahead....although if memory serves correct before you start book 6 you will want to read the "short" story One Word Answerit is in one of the anthologies or you can see it in Touch of Dead which has all the short stories. This short is the only one that has to do with the main story line.

Read to book 4 and then stop if it's not for you. If you don't like 4, you won't like anything else out there.
I have always hated the covers. I feel silly carrying them around.

Amanda (peanutty222) I think the worst was Sookie on the flying casket. ugh.
I agree with you Heather, The books don't really get 'better'. The story evolves and the characters play out their parts, so if you are interested in the story then keep reading, if you are bored dump them, there's enough out there to read.

Amanda (peanutty222) Oh wait, there's more than one of her on a flying casket :D

I get the point of the cartoonish covers, but if I ever wrote a book and that was what they picked for me I'd go a little diva and request that they try again.

Book 4 is the best in the series, IMHO. Read it and if you still don't like them you're not going to ever like them.

The books are quite a bit different than the HBO series. I've only watched season 1, and was disappointed. Definately give the books a try.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments The cartoonish covers is actually what stopped me from reading the Stackhouse books for years. I just hate cheesy covers, and the sookie books can't get cheesier.

The new HBO ones actually make me a little more thankful for the originals. I hate it when I books cover changes to match the movie/TV show.

message 75: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments Yeah, especially went they do not match at all! There are characters on the Sookie covers that are not in the book! Also on the Vampire Diaries tv covers, the tv characters do not match the book characters!

I know, the Vampire Diaries series really upset me! I mean, how can the leave out Meredith? You know what I mean.

Ditto.

Plus, how can bright green look anything but stunning with the dark purple background? The only other fictional character that can pull that off is Barney, so Sookie's movin' up in the world.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Barney, I totally forgot about that. Makes me cringe a little because those are the colors for my book blog.

Plus, I'm wearing Barney colors right now . . .

message 79: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Barney's where it's at Shera, don't worry about it. ;)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Yeah! I'm hip in my Barney get up!! ^_-

I had to babysit a girl who was obsessed with Barney. I use to turn the channel to the Spanish channel and tell her we missed Barney in English just to get out of it. I couldn't handle it.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments That's so funny.

Barney has just never appealed to me. My mom likes to joke I was a 4 year old who could predict who was going to sleep with who and get killed off on all her favorite soaps.

That's....frightening.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I suppose. I don't think I really knew what was going on half the time. Personally I blame the baby sitters.

My parents bragged about how smart I was as a kid. They kept telling the story of how I picked up the phone and dialed random numbers and managed to get my grandparents. One day I thought about it and realized that all I did was hit redial. No one, not one of the adults who ever heard the story, ever thought about that one little fact.

I could stand soaps as a kid. Can't now either to be honest. I don't know what it is, but I would flee the minute the shows came on.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments LOL. Redial.

Now soaps only serve as the occasional laugh.

message 87: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Sadly, I still watch General Hospital (mostly for the laughs, have you seen the actor who plays Sonny? lol). Plus it's funny to talk about it with my aunt, kinda like gossiping, but without having to hurt anyones feelings. :S
Anyway, I loved Barney as a kid. Seriously, Barney sheets and everything....*runs away in shame*

message 88: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) | 145 comments Nothin' wrong with a little corny, sappy soap every once in a while.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I had Barney sheets to, but they were handy downs from my sister.

General Hospital is to cheesy, for me anyway. the only soaps I bother watching are All My Children and One Life to Live. AMC is my moms soap, so I watch it to gossip. OLtL is my fav. Most of the time I just read up on whats happened and then watch the episodes worth watching.

message 90: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I watched Days of Our Lives from the time I was 12 until somewhere near 25 or so, then gave it up. It was too hard to keep up with it even recording it.

The sad thing is that I know if I started to watch again it wouldn't be hard to pick up again.

I called soap time nap time. It's when I'd be forced to have it on the tv for a bit and then my grandma would fall asleep. I would then be free to run off and do as I pleased until she woke up. Then, I'd rat her out and tell my parents that I spend the day babysitting Grandma.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments that's funny!! Sometimes that's what grand kids are for. ^_-

Darcy, I usually just read the summaries and then watch online the episodes I like. It's never to hard to sink in, the plot is so predictable I can usually just jump on board.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I will never go back into soaps full time. Realistically they are way to cheesy.

message 94: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 35 comments I started reading this series when there were just three books out. I was looking for a vamp book and found these at the local bookstore. I lucked out--about the time I finished the third one the 4th and my FAV Dead to the World came out. Ever since I have been waiting for May for the newest one to come out!! Charlaine Harris is prob my #1 author. I have enjoyed and have all of her books (besides short stories--not a fan of buying a book of stories just for hers).

I have watched the first season of True Blood, but am somewhat disappointed in it, so I have decided not to watch any more of the show until the book series is complete. Then I will catch up on the show. Overall the show would be great if it wasn't based on the books. I know they have to change some things when going from book to movie/tv, but it is just a bit too much for me.

The show starts to drift from the books in the second season.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I'm a book fan first, but I like where the TV show was going. It works for it.

message 97: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 22, 2010 05:26AM) (new)

I watch the show and like it, but I enjoy the books much more. I try to see the book and TV as seperate things, but some stuff I am dissapointed with in the show because I think the book was a better portrayal. Like with the whole Queen Sophie-Anne thing. In the book she is regal and I love her weird unconventional relationship with her whole entourage (plus its super tragic the way they all end up), but in the show she is Paris Hilton-whiny-ish and there is no Andre or even the troll/viking twins :/

Jessica Meade | 10 comments I just love this series. No matter what I'm reading, when a new Sookie comes out I buy it and read it, and its like I never left Bon Temps. :) The show is Okay... i watch because how could i not? But like any book to movie or book to show. The book is ALWAYS better!! i mean did anyone think Sam was that young in the show? well i didnt. But anyways i've read all so this maybe a spoiler!

**POSSIBLE SPOILER SO COVER YOUR EYEBALLS**

I think eric and sookie should be together, under his spell he was in true love! they had such a wonderful time together!! I love Pam, she makes me giggle. And i wonder, if we develop synthetic blood, will the vampires reveal themselves to us? hmmm. I think we have proven we are all vampire addicts now. Oh and Living Dead in Dallas is my Fav because I live in Dallas. :) oh and SO FREAKING sad about Claudine!! omggg i cried my eyeballs out!! :(
