Michael (keisu) I just abandoned Would-Be Witch . Disliked it very much.. Tammy Jo is one of the worst heroine's I've encountered in Urban fantasy :(

currently reading The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2), it's an epic fantasy and kinda long one at that.. :)

Hey Dawn,

I'd give it a try. Both my mom & I really liked it. In fact I read the second book right a way, which is a rarity for me.

I liked this one. She was ditzy, but it was a good way, kind of like Stephanie Plum if you read those books. I did think the second book was better than the first.

Dawn (dawnv) | 367 comments Grateful it is a library book because if I dislike it I have not lost a thing :-)

message 610: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading The Alchemyst.

message 611: by Jason (new)

Jason (j_calvin) | 13 comments I just finished Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane by Stacia Kane

I am almost finished Unholy Magic (Downside Ghosts, #2) by Stacia Kane also by Stacia Kane.

Next trip to the bookstore I will be picking up City of Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #3) by Stacia Kane by, you guessed it, Stacia Kane.

message 612: by Michael (last edited Sep 21, 2010 04:30PM) (new)

Michael (keisu) Huh.. Perhaps I should move one of her books to my to-read shortlist to check out soon.

Jason (j_calvin) | 13 comments Michael wrote: "Huh.. Perhaps I should move one of her books to my to-read shortlist to check out soon."

I wasn't sure I would like it at first. It took a little bit to get past a drug-addicted heroine and some of the "Downside" speech. But once I got used to that it turned out to be an excellent book, in my opinion.

I am reading it now and I am having a really hard time wanting to read it. I really don't care for it, so I hope it gets better. I am only 1/4 of the way through.

Michael wrote: "currently reading The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2), it's an epic fantasy and kinda long one at that.. :)

I liked the Mistborn series. I think I liked the first the best though. Sanderson is great for throwing his readers, I love it.

I'm also almost finished with Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep and just starting a reread of Winter's Heart (Wheel of Time, #9) by Robert Jordan .

message 615: by Crissa (new)

This first book was the harder to read of the two books I've read so far. There is a lot of character intro and set-up in the first book. The second book moves along at a better pace. With the familiarity of the characters now built by the first book, I think it allowed the author to focus more on the story.

Hopefully it doesn't totally lose you before you get further in.

message 617: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I'm now reading The Magician. The reading is going a little slowly. I think that there's a bit too much rehashing of the previous book. My favorite character is Scatty which is strange 'cause I don't like vampires as a general rule. Scatty isn't the blood sucking kind and she is sweet and loyal to her friends. She's also called The Warrior and does the name proud.

I finished it, but the drug use really turned me off. It's not that I don't like any books with drug use, because some really great books deal with it, but I didn't like the way it was done in this one. It just wasn't for me unfortunately.

I did really like Spider's Bite, so that's one I where I will be reading the next one.

Just started Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning .

message 620: by Dija (new)

Hi Crissa ~

I hope you like A Rush of Wings (#1 Maker's Song UF series). It knocked my socks off & I read it twice, which is rare for me.

I finally decided to pick up Soulless (#1 Parasol Protectorate) after seeing so many rave reviews. I began reading it while waiting for a friend at a medical clinic and had a very hard time not bursting into hysterical laughter on every page!!

I could be thinking of something else, but I think it is YA or dystopian (if dystopian is not a genre it should be).

message 623: by Donna (new)

Donna (gumshoegal) I'm new to the group. Was invited by one of your members. Enjoy a number of genres. Urban fantasy has really taken off in the past few years so will enjoy recommendations. Currently reading Jennifer Crusie's MAYBE THIS TIME.

I agree; feel it's his best yet. Tried to drag the ending out but sooner or later had to turn that last page..sigh. His next book will be the most anticipated yet!

message 633: by Carrie (Care) (new)

message 634: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments I guess now that I think about it, I did hear that. Still, a great book!

message 635: by Isamlq (new)

Isamlq Unwind is on my TBR (I think)... :)
I just need a novel that I can start then finish without wondering if the author's going to add more later... I've been reading all these series n-o-n-s-t-o-p lately... :)
thanks again!

message 636: by Michelle (last edited Sep 24, 2010 12:33PM) (new)

Michelle Rico (meesh119) | 1 comments I'm currently reading The Hunger Games which is the 1st book in a series by Suzanne Collins. This book has me completely engaged in the story of a very determined young girl who has had to rely on her survival skills alone. She ends up taking the place of her young sister, who she loves, in the Hunger Games because she knows that any child picked for the games could face death. The story takes place in a future where the government dictates the rules and keeps the cities segregated from each other so the people cannot revolt. The Hunger Games was a sadistic event the government created to keep the people in line. The book is great so far--I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

Julia | 615 comments Theresa & Sabrina Fair,
Thanks for commenting on The Help, I'm sometimes hesistant to mention books that I'm reading that are far out of the urban fantasy realm...

I just finished The Road and boy is it bleak, we aren't told what happened that made the world and most of its people die, but I'm glad I read it.

Next up is The Prince of Mist.
