I love the Kitty series, but I'm a couple of books behind in the series.

I think I'm going to give the Mercy Thompson series a break. I know a lot of people love that series, but I not been impressed. I just finished Bone Crossed and I really did not enjoy the last two books that I have read in the series.

message 453: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Jen,

I would say go for the next Mercy book. Bone Crossed was the weakest in the series. Silver Borne was good, especially if you are an Adam fan, as you seem more in deepth of what he had been thinking of Mercy.

I'll probably wait until Silver Borne comes out in paperback. That gives me about a year to forget how boring Bone Crossed was :)

I REALLY didn't liked BONE CROSSED either, but SILVER BORNE redeemed the series. Go for the Kitty books. The last 2 books in the series have been great!

Thanks! I started reading Magic Bites and I'm not sure if I like it. ;p But, I will try to finish it tonight and we'll see! Anyways, I agree with you about Silver Borne, finally, Adam and Mercy are together.

message 457: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Just started Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, #2) by Jeaniene Frost at lunch! Had to go to Walmart at lunchtime and they had it on the shelf!

message 458: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 233 comments I am now reading Silver Borne. I am happy to say that I skipped Bone Crossed because I didn't like the description and have not regretted it since.

I found Magic Bites really hard to get into at first. I think it was all the world building the first book had. Try to give the second book a shot. I really liked it, and the third and fourth were amazing!

I started Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter . I'm only the first couple pages in, but it's ok so far. I am a bit worried because it seemed similar to Mercy and the two I read I only would give 2.5-3 stars to (I know there are lots of mercy fans here, please don't throw food at me. :P). Hopefully this one will be better for me.

You didn't miss much, Shom. I didn't care much for it.

message 461: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments @ Carrie (Care) - Give Skinwalker some time, it gets better. We read it as a group read a while back and I loved it. The next one is even better. I love Jane's way to nickname people.

message 462: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments Thanks Darcy. I will definitely read it, I was just a bit worried at first. It does seem a lot different, so that is good. I remember when it was a group read, but I couldn't find it. I actually just got the ebook tonight so I could read it for another challenge.

You know, the book I just read Twice as Hot (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #2) by Gena Showalter has a protagonist that is great with nicknames too! I was always lol at what Belle came up with.

message 463: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Finished Paths Not Taken and Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth, and started Hell To Pay. All are by Simon R. Green. I'll have to keep an eye out for the next in the Nightside series as I'm on the last one that I own. I have the first two books from his Secret Histories series though I haven't started it yet.
Read Grave Robbed by P.N. Elrod which is part of an anthology, Many Bloody Returns. Grave Robbed is part of the Jack Fleming, Vampire Files series. I haven't actually bought the book yet, and since reading the one story out of it that I was interested in, I probably won't. At least not right away. There was one story by Tanya Huff which should be good as well.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Next for me will be Beyond the Pale (Darkwing Chronicles, #1) by Savannah Russe Past Redemption (Darkwing Chronicles, #2) by Savannah Russe and Beneath the Skin (Darkwing Chronicles, #3) by Savannah Russe .

Tiphaine | 60 comments I just finished Eon Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman which is more young adult fantasy but I think suitable for adults. It was really good! Now I am going to read Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher , I know a lot of people said the first book of Jim Butcher isn't very good but I enjoyed it anyway so I can't wait to start this one!

message 468: by Dija (new)

Dija Currently reading Friday Night Bites (Chicagoland Vampires, #2) by Chloe Neill

message 469: by Rizzaleen (new)

Rizzaleen | 10 comments I'm done with Kate Daniel's series! Got addicted to the 3rd and 4th book! Kitty Norville's next! :) Is Kitty like Kate Daniel or Kim Harrison? I love to read a strong female character like them.

message 470: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Kitty is more lighter than either Kate Daniel or Kim Harrison. Also if you don't care for Kitty in the first book keep reading. She is one character that really changes over the course of the series. The Kitty in book one is so different than the Kitty in book eight.

MsBeaglely | 114 comments Finished Embers (Anya Kalinczyk, #1) by Laura Bickle this morning. While it did start off a bit slow, it did pick up & I really enjoyed it. I loved Sparky and the references to Vernors & Faygo Pop. I just wish there had been more ghosts.

Up next is Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James .

message 476: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments Thanks Theresa! I actually meant I couldn't find the book in any of my libraries locally. I'm trying not to buy more than a few a books a month (yeah right), so I reserve those for the ones that are new releases in series I already have, or ones that are super highly recommended.

I am enjoying Skinwalker, although I haven't had a lot of time to read it. Hopefully I will get some more time this week.

message 490: by Krysta (new)

Krysta (krystafig) As part of another group's monthly read, I'm working on Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead at the moment.
I've never read any of Richelle Mead's work before, and I've never ready anything quite like it, but I have to say, I'm enjoying it so far.

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Still 'reading' Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowland. I haven't picked it up in a few days. I've been rereading the Anita Blake series the last few days, currently on Circus of the Damned.

message 496: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (vampirebookclub) | 45 comments Finished Shadow of the Vampire by Meagan Hatfield (Meh.) and City of Ghosts by Stacia Kane (HOLY CRAP, AMAZING) late last week.

I spent the weekend working on Through the Veil (Veil, #1) by Shiloh Walker , finishing it up last night. Good read, but took me a while to finish. Concept was really good, though the ending a little weak. It's the first in a series, though, so we'll move on to book 2.

And I just started Crimson Moon by J.A. Saare , which is the August group read at Vampire Book Club. Very excited about this one.

message 497: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments I copy and pasted this from another group I just posted at.

I couldn't really think of where to post this, so I'll put it here since this was where I last saw someone mention the Nightside. I noticed while listening to the soundtrack to Sherlock Holmes (the new one with Robert Downey, Jr.) that it would go great with the Nightside. I wouldn't recommend running out and getting the soundtrack for just that reason, though I think it is an excellent collection. But I'm one of those people who like to listen to soundtracks. I would just recommend listening to it quietly in the back ground while you read a Nightside book. If you have the soundtrack already or can barrow it. Or even just listen to it, and think of particular scenes from the books. Sorry for prattling on there, but I've been holding on to that thought for several days now. I'm just happy I remembered, Yay!

message 498: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Finished The Iron King by Julie Kagawa last night. I loved it! I had read good and not so great things about it, but personally, it was my cup of tea.

Listening to The Calling by Inger Ash Wolfe on my way to/from work. Very intense, especially with "riding along" with the killer as he does his killings. Some are quite gruesome. This is my first book by Wolfe and I will be reading more.

Starting City of Bones by Cassandra Clare today in preparation of the September Group Read.

message 499: by MsBeaglely (new)
