Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Hi Nicholas, Vered, and Tori! My whole family hates books. It's kinda depressing, actually.

Julianna (juliannablake) | 6 comments Hi everyone!

Tori, my family and friends are the same. I've been trying to get my mom to try Harry Potter for like a decade. She broke her leg 3 years ago and couldn't do much so I acutally started reading it to her...no dice, she just wanted to watch tv. lol

message 214: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bexlibris) Hi! I am Rebecca. I have been posting on the discussion boards for the past few days but I think I should introduce myself. I am 20 (almost 21) and I love YA books. Sci-Fi and mysteries are my favorite but I will read pretty much anything but I am not into paranormal books so anything but that.

Sara Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I just joined a couple days ago. I joined because YA books are how I became an avid reader, and I don't think I could ever 'outgrow' them.

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments Hello all!
I'm Kara and despite being in my 30's still LOVE my Y/A books. My favorite being the hunger games. I for one think they are doing a great job with the cast of the film, and can't wait to see it! I have read a few other dystopian books (matched, Delirium) And niether have lived up to my expectations,Any recomendations?

Hello Kara. Love the Hunger Games and super excited to see the movie next year. Have you read The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness ? It is the only series I liked as much as Hunger Games this year.

message 220: by Shaneace (new)

Well um HI EVERYONE. My brain is like ;AKDJF;DSJ right now, because a) today is my last day of high school, and b) I'm high on caffeine.

Yay! I have read so many great books since I joined Goodreads. Kara just be warned that the first book does take some getting used to because the protaganist is illiterate. Once you meet the girl it all picks up.

message 227: by Kara (new)

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments Oh thanks for the tip! Have you read unwind? I have read good things about that.

I liked Unwind it was good. I wouldn't say I was totally in love with it, but it is def. worth the read. I think I gave it 4 stars. It was one of our former monthly reads if you want to check out the thread for it.

Tori (rockerchick1234) | 60 comments hey i just started a blog does anyone have any tips id really appreciate it cus i have no idea what im doing lol http://torisbookshelf.blogspot.com

message 230: by Seth (new)

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Hi Eden, Christina, Rebecca, Sara, Kara, Sophia, and Tori!! And on the subject of The Hunger Games/Chaos Walking, Chaos Walking wins. By miles. I get in a bad mood when someone even MENTIONS the Hunger Games. Which is sad. Because I loved the first two so much.

OOH Unwind is AMAZING. So is EVERY OTHER FREAKEN BOOK BY NEAL SHUSTERMAN! He's a great writer. You should check out the Skinjacker Trilogy and Bruiser. Those were two of my favorites of his.

message 231: by Kara (new)

Kara (greathera77) | 30 comments You hated mockingjay? It was not as great as 1 and 2, and there was some characters (or just one in particular really) that I felt were not given a fair wrap up to their stories, but final chapters are always bumpy. I will be at the library today, I will see if they have those. Thanks Seth! And thanks everybody for being so welcoming!

message 232: by Tori (new)

Tori (rockerchick1234) | 60 comments I've read the first 2 books in hunger games and i keep hearing mockingjay is really depressing so I'm scared to read it now lol

message 233: by Seth (new)

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Kara- It was so sad. And everyone was so DIFFERENT. Katniss was depressed and not fearless--Peeta was . . . well. If you've read the book, you know how Peeta was. The ending was dumb, slightly confusing, and gave me a headache. It just didn't have the overall power that the first two had to entrap me and make me fall in love with the book. But you should DEFINITELY check out those books! They're good ones! :D

Tori . . . Idk what to say. I wish I hadn't read it. :P

Rebecca (bexlibris) Tori wrote: "I've read the first 2 books in hunger games and i keep hearing mockingjay is really depressing so I'm scared to read it now lol"

I feel the same way except I want to read the series but if it end in a depressing way I am not sure I should. I own the first book but (like so many others stacked around my room) I have not read it yet.

message 235: by Seth (new)

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments Looking back on it, I wish I'd only read the first book. It doesn't end with this huge cliffie, so you aren't particularly excited to read the second book.

now im scared lol is it going to make me cry?

I didn't hate Mocking Jay. It was different than the first two books, but I would have had a break down if I were Katniss. I mean geez look at all the crap she had to go through. Give the girl a break!

message 239: by Seth (new)

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 240 comments It's SO uncharacteristic of Katniss--you can't just go from SO strong to SO weak. Her entire personality was compromised in MockingJay.

message 240: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
We shall agree to disagree! That is the great thing about books. All in the eye of the beholder. :)

True, but especially not the third one. I was at least hoping for a good ending ... *sigh* :/

message 249: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments Hunger Games and Catching Fire were pretty flipping awesome and I think Mockingjay is definitely worth the read, though I did NOT like it as much as the first two. Just be sure you have a happy, light-hearted book handy to read afterward. And maybe a Prozac. :)

And welcome newbies!

message 250: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
I liked Hunger Games. And Catching Fire was alright but a bit repetitive. Then Mockingjay ... ermmm. Yeah. Not a lot of hope in it, and a lot of people randomly got killed off which is one of my pet peeves!

But I'm sure I've given this speech like five billion times so... *claps hand over mouth*
