SeAnne (simplyseanne) Hi I'm SeAnne! I think I'm a little obsessed with Goodreads, my to-read list is getting out of control lol;) but I love YA!

message 652: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thanks for the Invite Heidi! :)

I'm Wendy F. I've got an 8 year old daughter, and I love YA (and Adult, and anything that strikes my interest no matter the age range).

Does 'exclusively' YA mean that there's absolutely no Adult discussions? It's fine, I just want to make sure I mind my Ps and Qs, haha.

message 653: by Meggie (new)

Meggie (meggieandalis) | 15 comments I was just thinking about that, Wendy F. I like YA books but I think I read more Adult books.

Wendy I moderate this group so you can discuss anything your little heart desires (that goes for everyone Meggie)! I am very informal :) Welcome welcome!

p.s. I did not create this group so am not sure why the name was picked - perhaps Bluemoon can enlighten us.

We can still discuss adult books, it's just that all the group reads are YA, and I think a lot of members primarily read YA. But, talking about adult books isn't against the rules or anything. ;)

message 656: by Meggie (new)

Meggie (meggieandalis) | 15 comments Nice to know! Sooo... I think you'll hate me for this but i need to know.... Is hunger games really good? I haven't read it. I watched the movie but i had so many questions about it. So help me out. Is it worth reading?

*closes eyes* i'm ready for the YA MOB to come at me for asking such a question. Lol.

message 657: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Lol The Hunger Games is pretty awesome, particularly the first book. The second was good too and sort of similar to the first. The third has disappointed a lot of people but still worth the read :)

message 658: by Meggie (new)

Meggie (meggieandalis) | 15 comments Thanks! I look forward to reading it. Any other YA books you might wanna recommend? I'm kinda having a hard time finding ones that interest me.

message 659: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Heidi is the master of recommendations lol but I guess it depends what you're interested in. For dystopian I loved The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness For historical fiction The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is amazing!! If you like vamps and demon hunters and such City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare and that whole series is amazing. Contemporary I'd go for The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Goodreads YA book of the year! Hope this helps :)

message 660: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL! I liked Hunger Games. And I say that you should see it if you watched the movie because there was some things that were changed or left out.

I felt pretty "meh" about Hunger Games. I thought they were all right, but definitely not the best of YA in my opinion.

I love all of the books David recommended, so I second the suggestion of all of those! Some of my other favorite YA books:

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) by Libba Bray Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak Blood Red Road (Dust Lands, #1) by Moira Young Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness The Monstrumologist (The Monstrumologist, #1) by Rick Yancey The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

... I mean, I could go on for ages, but I'll stop before I go too overboard. XD

message 662: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Yep, those are pretty amazing. I've read most of them.

message 663: by Meggie (new)

Meggie (meggieandalis) | 15 comments Well, thanks for all the info guys! I'll check it out later. Old man's hungry, gotta feed the damned monster. Lol!

message 664: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments LOL good luck with the monster!

message 665: by Meggie (new)

Ahhh thanks David I like all those but I am not a fan of Mortal Instruments (I know I am in the minority). I loved Hunger Games but I know Brigid feels the same way about it that I do about Mortal Instruments! Hope you are good with different opinions because we have a lot of them here (all in good fun of course).

Yes yes yes to Anna and the French Kiss, I Am the Messenger, Angelfall, Unwind, A Monster Calls, and the Monstrumoligist!!!

message 670: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments LOL you're welcome :) And of course I always love how there are a million different opinions so we can argue a bit all in good fun haha! *never speaking to you again because you don't like TMI* *cough*

message 672: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Really? I hope not? There are only one or two books I'd hate you for not liking and TMI's not one of them LOL!

(For those who don't know me, this is all in good fun. Heidi is one of the coolest people I know on GRs and that's saying something because I know a lot of people. I would never disown her as a friend because of a book disagreement, although I might yell at my screen before typing a polite comment back to her)

Ok well I admit I was being a little dramatic there David! I don't think I have every ticked someone off permanently! I try my hardest to let people know my thoughts on books without hurting feelings or making it personal. Having said that there are some CRAZY MI fans out there who I have *backed away very quickly* from! I am very happy to say that I have never had this issue in this group. I think everyone is very civil and just really want to know why people did or did not like something. And thank you very much for the compliment! Hopefully I do not make you yell politely anytime soon!

Yeah... Living the moment. And i'm very amused without having to pay for it.

There are a lot of really rude/immature TMI fans, so I don't blame you. Haha ... In fact, I used to be in a Goodreads TMI group––but even as a fan of the series, I couldn't stand most of the people on there. >.<

Yeah, over all I think I like Infernal Devices more.

Also, I only really liked the first three Mortal Instruments books ... she should have stopped after that. Books four and five were ... meh. They just got pretty ridiculous. I'm glad it's ending after book six.

And then after that she's planning on writing yet ANOTHER Shadowhunter series. Gahhh. I mean, I like her books and all, but I kind of want her to just write about something else at some point. :P

I couldn't agree more! I'm done with the shadowhunters.

And as far as books 4 & 5, I really just got sick of reading (view spoiler). I was hoping when I found out she was writing them, that they would be more about Simon. A new story in the same world with the same characters. Similar to how Rick Riordan did Percy Jackson and then did the Heroes of Olympus. Different story same characters (and some new).

YES EXACTLY. Just ... UGGGGHHhhhh. I'm so tired of hearing about all this crap going on with Jace and Clary. Their storyline was supposedly resolved by the end of the third book. I went into the fourth book thinking it was going to focus more on Simon and the other secondary characters––in fact, that was what Cassandra Clare had originally said she would do, I believe. And then it's like, "LOL nope, look who's on the cover! CLARY AND JACE." She just kind of unresolved everything she already resolved in three books, so at this point it just feels like major overkill.

Well from what I understand about the next series she's writing, it's kind of going to be something like that. That is, it will be the same world but in the future and with different characters. Also the main character in the new one is going to be an experienced Shadowhunter, which will be a nice change (since both Clary and Tessa are kind of clueless). Oh and I love Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus. ;)

message 691: by Gwennie (last edited Jan 16, 2013 11:17AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) (I love those too. Heroes of Olympus is on my anticipated reads list, always, haha.)

I was so frustrated when she kept Clary and Jace as the focus. But I was even MORE frustrated that Jace (view spoiler). Now when I read it I don't feel nervous, I feel annoyed.

The best part of the 4th and 5th books are Alec and Magnus, lol. And I actually really like Jordan and Maia... and Simon and Izzy are pretty cute. I care more about the side characters than I do the main characters.

Haha, exactly. Gahhh I love Alec and Magnus so much. (view spoiler) Eh, I'm not crazy about Jordan and Maia. I feel like Cassandra Clare kind of solved the whole "love triangle" issue by being like "Oh yeah then Jordan reappears and Maia just gets back with him, so yay!" It felt a bit too easy to me. And I mean, I don't hate them, but I just found myself getting kind of bored during the chapters about them. I do like Simon and Izzy for the most part, though. :)

message 693: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It totally was too easy, hahaha. It was perfect. Except that I think (view spoiler). I think I like them because I really like Jordan. If I lived in that world, he'd be the one I'd be crushing on.

I absolutely think Alec and Magnus (view spoiler). I thought so anyway.

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments Hi! I am Kaylani. Brigid lured me in. Blame her if you don't like me.

I am 26. On medical leave from life (actually just work and school... but I 'get' to go to massive amounts of doctors appointments and take ALL THE MEDS like a good little girl)

I read. I read a lot to fill the gap of lack of being able to work and learn in an organized setting. Imagine life with nothing to do and no where to go except doctors appointments and medical tests and you will be able to imagine needing to find an alternate reality. Thus I have anime, manga and books. And comedy shows on netflix.

Some crafting when I feel able. And a mom to an assistive animal/medical animal that is a special breed of cat who is currently hiding under my bed yelling at the pigeon who is poking the window trying to get inside.

I HOPE YOU LIKE ME HERE BECAUSE I THINK I AM GOING TO STAY. rawr.
