Ari (acwulff) | 10 comments I read a book in Junior High, and I think the title was Paper Tiger or Paper Tigers..but I can't find it on amazon or anywhere.

The main character was a boy and there was some kind of espionage. Can someone help me fill in the details?

Ari (acwulff) | 10 comments I don't think that's it, KT, but it sounds like a fun read. However, Peking does ring a bell.

Heron | 52 comments Also: There's a si fi publisher called Paper Tiger. Could it have by put out by them?

message 5: by Ari (new)

Ari (acwulff) | 10 comments Read the book in 6th or 7th grade...that would have been circa 1972-73. Paper Tiger was not the publisher's name.

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) Maybe Ride a Paper Tiger by William Ash...but I can't find any real info about it other than it's a mystery it's about 200 pages long which would be appropriate for that age group...it's the best suggestion I can give you though.

rivka And it was published in 1968/69, so that works. And given Ash's bio, I can easily believe that he might have written a book with a tale of espionage.

Luscious | 3 comments I read one called Tiger Eyes, but it was about a girl not a boy. She had supernatural powers and was sought out by the government.

message 9: by rivka (new)

rivka I think you may be confusing Tiger Eyes with The Girl with the Silver Eyes.

Luscious | 3 comments Oops you're right. Hey junior high was a LONG time ago LOL

rivka I own a copy of Tiger Eyes, and I've been known to reread it. ;)

Ride a Paper Tiger was Cynthia's suggestion. Cayr, was that your book?

Their edition has a handgun (pistol? I'm pleased to say I don't know my lethal weapons well) on the cover.

‘And J..Edgar Hoover? He must be a very successful communist spy, wouldn’t you say ?”

Page 67

‘Now you're trying to get me drunk,’ I said as I beck- oned to the waiter. ‘I’d have every excuse for thinking you're a beautiful spy sent to trap me.’

Page 76

‘He’s a fine kid; but too hot headed—too anxious to show he’s as good a patriot as any peasant with nothing to lose.’ Watson frowned. ‘Of course you’ve got to realise that any of these men might be government spies for all I know.’ He turned his small eyes on me. ‘Just as you might be a spy from the North.’

Page 76

“That’s true, from your point of view. I’m the only person in this entire business I don’t think is a spy. But that doesn’t help much. You see,’ he said gloomily, ‘I _ could still make some stupid mistake, like shooting my mouth off the other evening when I didn’t realise you

were in the room; and the results would be just as dis- astrous as if I were a spy.’

Page 79

It had the effect of setting them all to arguing so violently among themselves that I was completely for- gotten in the heat of the debate. I decided I was no more cut out to be a politician than a spy.

Page 90

‘Oh my God!’ he exclaimed. He got up and walked about the room. He turned on me suddenly. ‘But I told you she was hopeless when it came to politics. What right has she to set some idiot from the north to spy on me?”

Page 155

‘Listen to me,’ I said coldly. ‘I haven’t time to fool around. Your group has been penetrated and everything you’ve done or are planning to do is known. I’ve no way of being sure who can still be trusted and who can’t. You may be straight, Juan, or you may also be a police spy. And that goes for everyone else, too. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to tell you something and you ll just have to act on it according to what you are.’

Page 162

‘He would!’ I said sarcastically. ‘What if I told you that he was working with our enemies, that he’s an American spy?’
