Sam Lewis Both writers aren't exactly literary but, trying to ignore that, I would say Hunger Games is better overall, apart from the fact that the last book is dreadful, so Meyer is the more consistent writer.

Megan i think the vote is clear
HUNGER GAMES!
:)

Why do I have to choose. Can't i just like them both and be happy?

message 254: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Both are good but i think Hunger Games is better!!!:)

Temple Rose The Hunger Games is way better.

message 256: by Nico (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nico hunger games is for those that like fantasy and enjoy that kind of read. it also has better writing.
however twilight is an easy read that hits the spot if you want a cute romance novel. Each has their own perks.
I personally pick hunger games ;)

Temple Rose i don't think I'll pick Twilight up anytime soon why would I when I know it doesn't compare to The Hunger Games.

message 258: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Agreed! Its a little boring now!

I agree Twilight all the way!! I loved the hunger games series, until the 3rd book. in my opinion she ruined the whole series ending it the way she did. that's just my opinion though. i always found it fascinating that people loved the 3rd book cuz i hated it. but from all the people i have talked to about it i have come to the conclusion that those who liked the book couldn't see it going any other way, and those who hated it could.

message 260: by Cat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cat I liked the 2nd book best and I have no idea why - maybe it's the fact that the Games happen again and I was thinking, 'onoz onoz onoz' and 'AWESOME' at the same time. Maybe it's the fact that I read the whole book in 5 hours. I don't know. XD

message 261: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Yeah i reckon the second book is the best-i liked the fact that the hunger games happened again!!

message 262: by Sasha (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sasha From a Feminist point of view, The Hunger Games is the better series.

Now, this argument is solely based off the first Twilight novel, I have not ventured into reading any further in the series so I can make no comment on the second, third, or fourth book of Twilight.

However, I did read all three books to The Hunger Games.

Now, back to the argument.

In Twilight, if you take two different highlighters and go through and highlight the words that Bella uses to describe Edward's intellect (or something of his charms that are not physical such as "he is sweet") and in one color and for the second color highlight every word she uses to describe his physical attributes... you'll find that she is purely focused on the physical. In fact, even though she does use the word "brilliant" in correlation to Edward, she uses it only once to describe his intellect and several times to describe his "brilliantly white teeth." This displays Bella as an overly shallow character.

In addition to her teen-bop infatuation with Edward, she also views Edward as a father figure versus a boyfriend. Yes, she refers to her father as "Charlie" more often than not (when she is examining him mentally that is, out loud she normally always says "Dad"), but after direct relation with Edward she always slips up. In fact, after almost being hit by the truck/van and she is being taken to the ambulance, her father arrives on the scene that she just experienced with Edward and she refers to him as "Chief Swan" then "Charlie" and then "Dad." The closer Edward is to her the further she drifts from her father. We also see that Edward views her as a child, when he is going on an emotional rant about the class they shared together he refers to their classmates as "those children" even though Bella is of the same age range and thus she would be a child, as well.

...

Sorry for the tirade, Twilight bothers me. Or rather, Twilight doesn't bother me, the fact that it's marketed to young preteen girls who don't know any better bothers me. Fuck marketing.

So! On the other hand, Katniss is extremely aware of both Peeta and Gale (although apparently not aware of their affection for her), she does not focus on their physical attributes unless it is necessary to progress the story and while she misses her father, there is never any indication that her love for either character is a misplaced love intended for her father.

But from a non-feminist point of view and simply examining both texts from a shallow purely-pleasure-reading mindset (which there is absolutely nothing wrong with), The Hunger Games is still better.

So yeah, that's my opinion.

that is totally true and awesome comment! What Katniss did in the arena she did for her family, but what Bella does she does for her overprotective stalker-like creepy-ass boyfriend

Megan HUNGER GAMES!

message 265: by [deleted user] (new)

Who wants a girl that can't think for herself? Hunger Games all the way, why are we even comparing them...

message 266: by Kaylee~ (new)

Kaylee~ idk.....

message 267: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Definately Hunger Games!

message 268: by [deleted user] (new)

HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Duh! of coarse it's better then twilight. way more action and no offense but i get so fed up with Bella when she acts all weak. i personally like strong females, you know. and that is exactly what Katniss is. plus she's got an nice guy like Peeta! totally team peeta

message 269: by Hina (new) - rated it 2 stars

Hina I would choose the first and second books in the Hunger Games trilogy over the Twilight series but not the last one because it was just awful. Katniss became whiney like Bella herself and it just became Twilightish and just urggh.

message 270: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Yeah i agree. I didn't like the last Hunger Games books as the first two as it was sloww-but it was still good!:)

message 271: by [deleted user] (new)

In my opinion readers have a right to comment/criticise an author's work because that is their purpose. Everyone doesn't have to love it and the author needs to respect that either their book is fantastic or just plain rubbish. SM needs to accept that some people do not like her book and prefer others.

Bethany I think The Hunger Games is definitely better than Twilight. Where Twilight lacks depth and character development, THG has it in abundance 99% of the time.

Bethany But I agree with what some people are saying. You can't really compare the two.

message 281: by Ashley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ashley Dillon I think the only thing that are similar with them to me...both series gave me that obsessed feeling where all I could think about was each series while reading them. Nothing else mattered. I havent felt that from anything, but Twilight and HG!

K.Q. Webster Hunger Games! Hello?!?! Twilight is so stupid. I read the first book and I was like never mind.

message 283: by Aeyla (new) - rated it 4 stars

Aeyla HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i've never read twilight, but I don't like vampires)

Agreed you can't because they're about two comletely different things!! :)

message 285: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy Like i said, I llove Twilight and Stephenie Meyer's books, but The Hunger Game was more into it and very awesome!

message 286: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Yeah more action and adventure!

Bethany Polk I vote huger games. They are soo much better than twilight. I mean don't get me wrong, Twilight is a good series and all, but it juss isn't for me. Hunger Games are much better written. But juss an opinion.
:-D

Virág Hunger Games.

Anybody who said Twilight is an illierate idiot who should live in a hole.

message 289: by Bri (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bri Why even compare the hunger games to twilight. Twilight is a poorly written dream one lady, whereas THG is what could happen in the next century if we don't be careful

message 295: by Lisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lisa I love them both in different ways. I love the "Love" Story in Twilight and the way the characters change and grow together through out the books. In Hunger Games I like the adventure and the way the author makes you feel like you are there and how the situation these characters are in bring them closer together and love becomes almost inevitable. To me "Twilight" is the modern "Pride and Prejudice with a vampire twist.
"Hunger Games" is the modern "Romeo and Juliet" one can not live without the other.

message 297: by Morgan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Morgan i'm with comment 41, twilight doesn't even look appealing!
i would choose hunger games any day!

:D

message 298: by Ankita (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ankita Gour only the first book in twilight series was worth reading.. rest of them were sort of cumbersome... like story was stretched unnecessarily... while hunger games kept me hooked until the very end.
