I think there's a huge difference between acknowledging that lovers will have a physical relationship (at least in novels set in modern times) and showing the details of that relationship. I write short stories (all clean) so it could be argued that in this genre there is no room for the development of a physical relationship - but there again many writers seem to manage it! My anthology "For A Smile" is available on Amazon or from my website www.lydiajones.co.uk and I think(!) I have added it to the bookshelf here! :)

Thanks for inviting me to post about my own books! I started out writing YA for Bantam's Sweet Dreams series, but more recently I've been doing Regency romances and historical mysteries with a romance thread. Of my Regencies, the favorite seems to be THE WEAVER TAKES A WIFE. . My top-selling mystery is A DEAD BORE . The red-headed stepchild of the bunch seems to be my 1930s Hollywood mystery, BABES IN TINSELTOWN , which got a great review in Library Journal and "recommended read" status by Dear Author, but which has only been reviewed on Goodreads by people who don't like it! Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone!

Hi, Just joined goodreads a few days ago,and just working my way around the different discussion groups when I found this one.

I was surprised to not see a bookshelf for 'Amish' fiction!

Surely there are readers of that genre here since it has become so popular! Also they are definitely 'clean' reads.

I have tried and tried to add books to the group bookshelves with no success.:(

Since Amish is a religion, I think those books, clean as they are, would likely go on an inspirational bookshelf. Our bookshelf is only for clean secular romances. Re-read our group description to understand what type of books we specialize in. :-)

Help! now I am confused, because in browsing through the books I am seeing many that are in fact Christian-or-inspirational,some that I have even read! So many here are posting books that are definitely not secular!

I removed all mine that I had added and were christian-or-inspirational. Just for an example,on the first page the very first title which is not showing the 'full title is~ The Inheritance (Women of Faith Fiction) by Tamera Alexander! So IMHO, it seems either all those that are christian-or inspirational books should be removed from the bookshelf or they should be honestly tagged as christian or inspirational.

Christine, I think I just addressed this on another thread. Message me a list of books that you know are not secular and I will look into them. However, please also review in that thread how this group chooses to draw the line between secular and inspirational. Books are not removed for simple mentions of God or faith or Church, but how predominate such themes are to the romance.

I just want to add that at least one of them is categorized on Amazon as "inspirational romance," but none of my books actually are. I've written them repeatedly asking that they be removed from that category because it is inaccurate, but well, they're still there. I just don't want you to think I'm trying to sneak anything by you here, all my books are secular and I'm certainly not trying to pass them off as anything else!

I think it’s actually the other way around—chick lit is the larger category, romance the smaller one.

I don't believe chick lit is a subgenre of romance. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_lit

Of course many many books in other genres have or contain romance as a theme. But "romance" has specifics, such as the required happy ending and a preponderance of the book relying on a romantic relationship between main characters.

Click on "Bookshelf" at the top right of the page, just below the group picture. On the new page, the various shelves are linked on the left. At the top left is a search box; enter the title of a book you want to add and click "search" and you will get the options to add books to the group.

Mine focus on relationships without being graphic. They also include loads of Colorado history and settings, as well as challenges real people face. Somewhat expanded. The most recent (Falling Like a Rock) has wildfires in it, and the next will have a flash flood.

A few days ago I finished a lovely clean historical romance, The Wrong Envelope by Liz Treacher. It's set in 1920 in Devon. Well written, and focused on character and character development rather than simple sexual attraction. Highly recommended!
