The Glee I know and love is back with a vengeance! Perhaps I'm biased due to my unabashed love of 80s music, but this episode was just off the chain! The best thing about this episode for me boils down to the three S's...
-The songs: Will rapping is always hilarious, and the not-hot-enough-to-make-the-list Glee club members' rendition of "U Can't Touch This" in the library was just awesome. When I saw the title of this episode, I was hoping for a cover of the Joan Jett song. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't happen until I realized that, despite its title, it wouldn't have fit with the theme of the episode (in fact, it's kind of the opposite — the episode is all about changing one's rep while Joan sings about not caring).
-The Sue: Hilarious as always, but I just love those tender moments between her and her sister. I wish they didn't "digitize" her voice so much in the "Physical" remake. I think she sounds great but it's hard to tell when so much of it sounds computerized.
-The surprises: I loved the scene when Emma confronted Will in the cafeteria, and I'm happy that she stuck to her resolve instead of changing her mind and falling into his arms. And it was a nice surprise for Brittany to actually have a little monologue rather than just tossing in a one-liner here and there (though she did that in this episode too).

-LOVED the music in this episode! I'm obsessed with 80s music, and "Jessie's Girl" is my favorite 80s song, so of course I was really excited about Finn's version :) All the songs were great, but if I had to choose a favorite song from the episode, I'd pick Mercedes's and Santana's rendition of Brandy's and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine." Santana has a great voice!
-I'm glad Kurt and his dad seem to finally understand each others' feelings.
-Quinn mentioned living with Puck and his parents. I'd been wondering about where she was living (because she wouldn't still be living with Finn and his mom after the truth came out about Finn not being the father), and I don't think it had been mentioned until this episode, though I could have just missed it.

I thought the end with Kurt and his dad was really touching.
I didn't even hear Quinn mention that bit about living with Puck's family, but I missed parts of the episode because my son is sick and I had to help my husband with him a few times. I had wondered where she was living, though.

Yeah, Quinn said something about Puck's mom not letting her eat bacon, lol. Aww, hope your son feels better soon!

I think Jesse is gay pretending to be straight. I'm talking about the character, not ..."
I thinkStacy is right on the nose! I'll bet he really is gay - but then, why would he try to sleep with Rachel in the Madonna episode?

I have to download the music whenever new stuff comes out. I LOVE Glee!!

Really looking forward to Neil Patrick Harris as well!

Neil Patrick Harris/Sue Sylvester showdown was--wait for it--legendary!

Ok, WOW. My jaw dropped when the Jesse's true motives were revealed. I really thought he had something sinister up his sleeve, too. When it was first announced that Idina Menzel would appear on the show, a lot of people thought or suggested that she should play Rachel's mom because of the resemblance... I would never in a million years have guessed that she actually would! Wow, I'm still in shock!
I'm glad Artie got some more singing time in this episode! I just love his voice. I really liked the interaction between him and Tina.
Neil Patrick Harris was, of course, awesome. His duet with Will was fantastic! The whole "Oh no, someone wants to cancel Glee Club" bit is getting a little tired, though...

I know! They do look a lot alike, and both are extremely gifted!

This site is great. It has links to a bunch of different places where you can watch each episode. I usually choose Megavideo because it's one of the few that will stream outside of the U.S.

I'm a HUGE Lady Gaga fan, so I thought the costumes were fantastic. :) The storyline with Tina was good too (especially the end when she threatened Figgins, lol). "Bad Romance," the Kiss song, and Puck's song were great, but "Poker Face" for the mother-daughter duet? What the heck? That seemed really random and like they needed to fit another Lady Gaga song in to stick to the "theme" or whatever. It also bugs me that everything between Rachel and her mom was wrapped up in a matter of a couple of episodes. I feel that they could have done a lot more with that storyline.
Also, I thought the scene between Finn, Kurt and Kurt's dad was just brilliant.

I also thought "Poker Face" was a weird song choice for Rachel's duet with her mom. And I was surprised at how quickly they wrapped up that storyline. I figured it would continue for a while. Weird.

I cracked up when Tina confronted Figgins lol. My little boy thought it was the coolest thing EVER when she told him her dad would bite his face off.
Jayme, my sister spells her name just like yours! It's such an uncommonly used spelling that for a minute I thought she showed up in this conversation out of nowhere!

That's a good point. It makes sense if you think about it that way. I guess I was just expecting an emotional ballad like the song Rachel's mom sang on the tape, and "Poker Face" threw me off guard. They do sound fantastic together, though. They could sing a duet of the ABCs and it would sound amazing!

(though I have a thing about discussing about it on a literature network...)
Cheers to all!

Hmm. Mixed thoughts on this episode!
-Great music as usual, especially Quinn's James Brown song! So powerful! The final song was great too. You can tell they're just having a blast, whereas Vocal Adrenaline look like robots.
-Speaking of Vocal Adrenaline, what's with the 180 in the Jesse/Rachel storyline? He was trying to reunite her with her mother, he was falling for her, and now all of a sudden he's back with Vocal Adrenaline and throwing eggs at her?
-Will's seduction was hilarious, but I was shocked that Sue actually fell for it. Come on, Sue, you're smarter than that!
-I wonder if there's a Terri/Finn storyline in the works...

But Sue wearing pearls with her tracksuit was hilarious.

Yeah, the pearls were an awesome touch. LOL. I also love how nearly every inch of her apartment was covered with trophies.

I agree. The Gaga episode the week before was so much better. Also, I didn't think New Directions's funk performance was that spectacular. It was okay.

I was wondering that myself. I guess it's because teenage romances can turn on a dime sometimes. Still, Jesse is dead to me after cracking the egg on Rachel.

Now that he's back, it looks like more of a peer pressure thing. They probably give him shit for befriending the enemy and now he has to convince them that he is still one of them or there will be hell to pay. That girl had to urge him to do the egg thing. You could see he didn't really want to. But at the same time he wants to fit in, and to win regionals. A lot of the show is about finding a place to fit in, so I think Jesse is doing the same.
I figure in the end he'd man up somehow, apologize and try to get Rachel to take him back or something along those lines and then she'll refuse him and go to Finn or something. :D

Is it too much to hope that he sings "Dentist" from Little Shop of Horrors? Uncle Jesse as an evil dentist would be awesome...
Can't wait for the finale!!!

Jenny, it was rather "meh" for me too.
-Sue getting chosen to be a judge, when she teaches at one of the schools that is competing, is totally unrealistic. Hopefully next season they can create some conflict that comes from something other than someone (usually Sue) trying to sabotage the Glee Club. It's getting old!
-Quinn said she was only 8 months pregnant but I figured she'd have the baby in this episode... it makes for a more dramatic finale.
-The end seemed a little anticlimactic with Sue just tossing the Glee Club a bone like that.
-On the whole, I think this episode was just a little too emotional/mushy.
