I was surprised when the story took a huge turn. In the book, they found a meteorite that proves extraterrestrial life and the first half of the book was mainly about that. The characters recently discovered that the meteorite was placed there. I’m very curious to see where the story will go now. I can’t wait to see why it was placed there and whether it’s fake or not. I’m a little confused at this point because I don’t understand who out the meteorite there or why they did it. I have no idea where this will lead, but I can’t wait to find out.

I lost track of my reading because I went a week without reading my book and I had to go back a few chapters to recap. I noticed that while I’m reading I have to check back every once in awhile to UNDERGIRD what the characters are referring too. I usually find it pretty quickly because I can estimate around which chapter it’s in. I realized that while I’m reading this book I make a lot of connections and I’ve been doing a good job of paying attention. Not only do I pay attention to what I’m reading, I pay attention to how I’m reading as well.

The author’s purpose is why the writer is writing and what they want to accomplish. Because I’m reading a fictional book, the author’s purpose is simply to tell a story. His mode of discourse is narration. He also uses descriptive elements to create a vivid image in the readers mind. He EXEMPLIFIES with specific examples and similes throughout the book.
The author’s tone is the feelings or emotions that a piece of writing conveys to the reader. The author’s tone in this fictional story is pretty balanced with positive and negative feelings. He uses words with negative connotation in bad situations and words with positive connotation in good situations. In these different situations, the tone and mood come through by the thoughts and actions of the characters and the type of environment they’re presently in. The author’s descriptions and tone evoke clear emotions from the reader in these different situations.

Tasha said, “I lost track of my reading a lot more in this section because the combination of different narratives started becoming much more obscure.”

I completely understand how you can lose track when there’s so much going on. It’s similar in my book, every chapter is from a different characters point of view and every other character is experiencing something ANTITHEITCAL than the others. I found that I have to go back in the book a lot to figure out what’s going on. It can be difficult when the storyline jumps back and forth. I hope it’s still a good book though.

I began to think of Christopher’s mother was not dead as his father had told him as the story was going because he had found letters of her mother in a box which his father hold in the room. What lead Christopher to his father’s room was that he took his book he was writing about the mystery of the death of Willington the dog. As I read the ideas ENCOMPASS around my mind as to why Christopher’s father told him his mother died. I remember that she had supposedly an affair and probably she hated her so bad that the solution was to mark her dead.

I got stuck when Christopher talk about stories he read, for example, a story about Sherlock Holmes which are stories about detective work. I need to see more EXEMPLIFY work on what the story is about so I could now what he was talking about the characters and what where they doing. To not get stuck I believe I should do a METHOLOGY on the side stories about Sherlock Holmes before reading. Reading stories can be difficult sometimes when you don’t know the clue what the author is talking about. For this not to be a problem first do researches, then start reading and it won’t take as much time of your reading.

The author’s purpose is to show the audience to not give up in the subject of unsolved crimes or mysteries. Purpose is just to tell who ever is reading the book to never do crimes or tell lies like some of the characters in the story. The tone of the story is positive and negative in many ways. The attitude tone is good in the sense of when not wanting to fight the authors makes the character be gentle. There is another attitude tone where is negative when Christopher’s father screams at him which is irony because Christopher has explain that his father does not get mad easily, but he did.

I agree with alex saying that she lost track after she didn't read for a quite time. That happens to me most of the time when I don't keep up with a book I am reading. i believe we readers should mark in our calenders what days we should read or otherwise we will loose track. If you are up to date in the book you are reading than there is no way of forgeting what has been read.

Laura | 3 comments I felt that Ellen’s grandmother from her mothers part of the family was really unfair to Ellen and blamed her for her mothers death. Ellen did everything she could for her mama. I don’t understand how your own grandmother cant stand looking at you and decides to send you to work in the fields like a slave. In a way I think its sad how everyone starting form the person Ellen cared and loved the most past away to her father passing away and then her grandmother, even after her grandmother had been so mean to Ellen, Ellen still took very good care of her when she was sick. I felt that the DICHOTOMY between Ellen and her grandmother was starting to decrease at one point because she saw that Ellen was really caring for her.

What I did to try to improve my comprehension was read slower and find a place with little distractions. Although I did have the television on but the volume was low I was still able to INCREMENT my comprehension and was still able to focus on the book, that is until my stomach started growling. The growling of my stomach APPROPRIATED my mind and made me loose my focus, so I stopped stretched out a bit and grabbed a snack. When I picked up the book again I was able to focus once again in the story. I also figured that having at least a little bit of distraction like having the TV on or listening to the radio makes it less boring and helps me focus on the book in a way.

The definition of purpose is why the author chose to write and what they want to accomplish. There are 4 different typed of modes; which are narration, description, exposition, and persuasion. I think that the writers purpose is narration and description because he chose to tell a story about a girl named Ellen and how she struggles through life and doesn’t give up. He makes you feel and get a picture of what she went through he uses a lot of descriptions. Tone is the feeling or emotional quality a piece of writing conveys to the reader. I think the tone of story is mournful and lamenting a lot of the time because of everything Ellen goes through but at the same time its also admiring because Ellen never loosed hope in having a better life.

Response to Luis
“The time went quickly because the story was getting exited and was trying to figure as I read why Christopher’s mother and Mr. Shears had an affair.”

I agree with you the same thing happened to me when I was reading the book this time around. It was more interesting this time because I couldn’t believe that her own grandmother, women who we all usually think are really sweet and wont kill a bug could hate her own granddaughter. I’m glad to hear your really enjoying the book your reading. I myself get a little carried away when I’m reading to because sometimes it really does get exciting. Ellen Foster
