Peter Curtis For any of you interested in WW2 escape novels, my first two in the Kohut Trilogy, The Dragontail Buttonhole and Cafe Budapest will be on special discount on Amazon in September. I'm finishing the third, Til War Do Us Part soon. It takes place in Britain during the Blitz and involves preparations for Operation Overlord and Communist spies of which there were more than the German ones.

Hi everyone,
I've been interested in WWII history since I was 8. It was the 60's and there were some great TV shows that got me started (Combat, etc.). I'm interested in nearly everything about WWII, but especially D-Day and submarine warfare. A high point for me was visting the beaches in Normandy, the American and German cemeteries, as well as many museums scattered throughout the region.

It's nice to be here and I know I'll find some good company and interesting conversation.

I'm always open to recommendations. In fact, I'm hunting around for my next WW2 read.

Welcome Paul, nice to have you join the group. As soon as you hint at an area of interest, we'll be able to find "something". But I will recommend something in the blind:

The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors The Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navy's Finest Hour by James D. Hornfischer The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors: The Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navy's Finest Hour

Dennis McClure And Mantle of Command. FDR as a commander in 1941 and 1942.

message 3966: by Dennis (new)

Dennis McClure I'm new to the group, attracted by the theme. I've been a WWII fanatic for a very long time. In the last few years, I've become fascinated by the war in the North Pacific, the Aleutians, and the construction of the Alaska Highway in 1942.

Epicenter Press published a book I co-wrote with my wife last fall. I won't flack it here, but if you're curious look at my author profile.

You people are cool.

Dennis McClure Even people knowledgeable about WWII miss the North Pacific. When my son read the manuscript of our book, We Fought the Road, his first comment was on the Japanese invasion of Kiska and Attu. He didn't know they ever occupied American territory.

Welcome Karan. I thought Inferno: The World at War, 1939-1945 was at least as good as Beevor's The Second World War. Hope you enjoy it!

Colin Heaton (colin1962) | 2011 comments I always admired Sir Max, and I enjoyed our emails to each other over the years. However, he is about to get excoriated over his new book on Vietnam, especially regarding his section from about pp. 490-515 regarding the 2/4 Marines and the battle at Dai Do/Dong Ha. Stand by for that one, it will be brutal, sad but true. He really should have done the research. I gave him access to the Marines involved who are mt friends, generals on down.

message 3999: by Mike, Assisting Moderator US Forces (new)

Mike | 3595 comments Just read your account on Historynet, Colin. What is Sir Max's view of the battle that concerns you?

message 4000: by Jonny (new)

Jonny | 2115 comments If be interested to hear too. Sounds from the account in the book like he did his groundwork. His account gives credit on both sides.
