THE WORLD WAR TWO GROUP discussion
Introduction to the WW2 Site - Please Say Hi
Hi Steve and welcome to the group. Great list of books that you have completed so far, some of my favourite authors mentioned. You could read more of Holland, Beevor and Hastings as they have quite a few more books covering WW2 subjects. Also you could look at these titles:
Snow and Steel: The Battle of the Bulge, 1944-45 by Peter Caddick-Adams
The German War: A Nation Under Arms by Nicholas Stargardt
In Deadly Combat: A German Soldier's Memoir of the Eastern Front by Gottlob Herbert Bidermann
Steve wrote: "Thanks. "The German War" is on my to be read list and I will take a look at the other two as well."My pleasure, do you have any particular area of interest in WW2 that we can help with recommendations/suggestions?
Welcome to the group Steve. That is some quality reading you have accomplished this year. Nice to have you here. One to read that will match the quality of your books is:
The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors: The Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navy's Finest Hour
Well. I started reading after learning of my grandfather's brother who was killed in April 1945 near essen and is buried in Margraten in Holland. My grandfather is still alive and got me interested with many conversations. He was in the navy in 45-47 and his older brother survived the entire war serving on subs. He was on one that just happened to be out on Pearl Harbor day. So, honestly, all of it due to the family being so spread out during that time and in multiple branches of service. Its very hard to nail down info on each individual, but to learn about the entire setting is important.

Welcome to the group, Steve. Fine list of books you've read so far this year and don't worry, we can definitely point you in the direction of "off the beaten path"!
Steve wrote: "Well. I started reading after learning of my grandfather's brother who was killed in April 1945 near essen and is buried in Margraten in Holland. Yes, for sure. I am liking the way Snyder tells more of the "why" and what the repercussions were rather than just the what happened some of the other authors fall into.
Steve,Let me add my welcome to the group
Welcome, Welcome
You have a good start there, I'm sure your TBR will expand greatly with recommendations

Welcome to the group Ankit, nice to have you join us.
Thanks for allowing me to join. It's great to find a group focused on WWII (btw ~ I searched for "WWI"I and nothing came up until I wrote World War Two). I am constantly researching the wars America has been in during my lifetime. Born in 1942, I have written two historical fiction novels about WWII in the Pacific and The Battle of the Atlantic.
Hi Ankit and Mark, a warm welcome to your both. As Mike has already mentioned Mark you can post details about your novels in our authors thread.

Welcome to all our recent new joiners. Please feel free to join in posting comments, asking for and giving recommendations.
Welcome to all the new joiners, since back in the mists of ancient time. Hopefully the bank manager hasn't been in touch just yet....
So glad to see this group growing. It is filled with very kind and helpful people who share the same interests about WWII that most of us do. You won't regret joining and welcome to all.
Greetings, I've been interested in history since I could read, and find my particular area of interest these days in 1900-1943. Glad to be here. I've also been involved in scale modeling and vintage firearms, which each are areas in which I can enjoy history. Glad to be here.
Welcome aboard, Scott. If you need/want any recommendations, all you have to do is ask and they'll come pouring in!
Thanks for the warm welcome. Currently reading some Alan Furst novels, exceptional look at WWII from a very well-researched historical author, mostly spy stuff, but superb. WIll soon be reading Cockleshell Heroes about the Bordeau Harbor canoe raid.

Welcome, Welcome!!!!
Don't worry about your English, some of us native speaker can barely make ourselves understood :)
Welcome to the group, Dreika! Rest assured, we can recommend a book (or several) on most any topic related to World War II, so do not hesitate to ask about anything which you would like to know more about!Cheers!
Let us know what genre of military history interests you the most. Ironically we may be looking for a Spanish translator for a few of my books for that market. I have one book in French, Finnish, Polish, and another in Danish.
Greetings, Avid World War II buff. I love reading and talking about history. I am married to an oustanding lady, am the father of four, and grandfather to five. Hope to have interesting input into the conversations here.

Hi Billy, glad you found the group. Be careful, we might divert some of your funds from grandkid presents to must-have books.
My two newest grandsons were born just over two weeks ago. My love for history is not shared by their father. But between feedings and diaper changes I impart on them the stories of the war. I can only hope that the boys first words are "Spitfire" since my chats with them have been based on the Battle of Britain.

Welcome to all our new members. The group is a great place to chat WWII (and WWI) books and please feel free to pitch in and post too.
Hi, new member here. My father and two uncles were WWII Army officers. I have many stories from my dad in particular, who was on his second marriage when I was born, hence my relatively young age, as compared to others whose fathers were WWII vets. I have read extensively about the War, and look forward to discussions on this forum.
