Jeff Welcome aboard Leigh! And as a recent retiree I concur, more time for reading! One of my earliest influences was a comic book telling the story of Kokoda ... boy was I hooked after that!

Kenneth McKinley | 4 comments Hi everybody.
I’m Ken and have been history buff for as long as I’ve been reading. I’ve always gravitated towards World War II and used book stores are my weakness. I’ve been fortunate in that my travels always seem to take me near many of our floating museums or air museums. Washington DC, Boston, Groton, San Francisco, Chicago, and this past year I visited Pearl Harbor. It was trip I’ll never forget. This year, I’m looking to do New Orleans and visit the WWII museum there. I’ve heard great things about it. Thanks for having me,

Ken

message 3706: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Welcome Ken, have heard the same god things RE New Orleans.
Happy reading!
Jeff

I have not been to any countries where anything WWII was on display. Once my kids get old enough to appreciate it, I'd like visit various European and Pacific battlefields and museums. I think seeing this period through the other sides eyes will be very interesting.

Hi, Ken,
My dad survived Pearl Harbor, so I have the same interest you do. Here's a link to my book if you're interested:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2R4EKN/...

message 3715: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Concur RE Imperial War museum and also in London is Churchill's "secret bunker" ... http://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/churchil...

Another interesting WWII "museum" is the Pegasus Bridge Café Gondrée, first bar liberated on D-Day. An excellent historic stop (and have a calvados for me!).

Shirley McAllister I am Shirley McAllister. I live in the Pacific Northwest U.S. I recently retired after 33 years and have more time to read. History has always been interesting to me. I read a lot of historical fiction as well as true accounts. I am especially interested in WWII period books. I also read Civil War U S books as well as the Amerrican Frontier period. I am hoping to find some verification of some events mentioned in some of the books I have read although they are mostly fictional stories.

I don't know to much about book stores in Idaho. Just Portland and Lincoln City, where my two favorites are. Although Powell's will let you order online.

HI, Shirley,

You're not related to Susan McAllister are you? She is a midwesterner whose dad was in the same Signal Co. as my dad in the war. Liz

Bruno Gremez (brunogremez) | 1 comments Hi, sorry that I did not introduce myself earlier. I joined this group last week. I love history, and one particular period of history that I am interested in is WWII , a.o. for the unprecedented scope and scale of the conflict and of the changes it will bring to the world. I look forward to read interesting contributions and suggestions of books to read about WWII. I have reviewed a few books about WWII. If some of you are interested, please have a look at some of the reviews I wrote on my page. I will be happy to hear your views. Cheers. Bruno
