I should mention I'm very interested in the activities of the German merchant raiders in WWII (& WWI). Please note my "raiders" shelf.

Welcome, Welcome!!
David, I just finished Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler's Defeat about how the SOE came about. If you haven't read it, I thought it was pretty good.

I have read it once upon a time. I had to reduce my library (physical one) when we moved to CA in September.

My name is Bernie and I am a relative newbe to the events of world conflicts. In the past 2 - 3 years I have immersed myself in books relating to the Canadian involvement of The Great War and now more recently, WWII. With anniversaries and ceremonies happening regarding The Great War I only saw it fitting that I educate myself with a more understanding of what actually transpired over seas. Oh, I am Canadian by the way, eh!
I have a son and also a nephew serving in our military but I have not. I have read a few books that have encompassed an overall view of each major conflict but I have concentrated more of my reading to battles that have involved Canadian assistance.
I look forward to enriching my knowledge further with this group.
So, Happy New Year to all and hopefully peace throughout the world. Cheers!

Thanks Mike
I felt I needed the education first before jumping in since you have helped with selections in the past. I am extremely proud of not just my family members but everyone past, present and future who sacrificed so I may live uncomplicated.

Welcome, Bernie. I just picked up a copy of Peter Russell's Canada's Odyssey: A Country Based on Incomplete Conquests which I hope to attack soon.

Welcome, Welcome
I look forward to reading your comments. Please feel free to browse the various threads, you just might find something of interest :)
Also, be prepared to have your TBR lists grow at an exponential rate :D

I am an Australian who discovered his love of military history at an early age. It started with a book about VC winner's ( Which I still have today) and Commando comics but then that lead to a deep quest to understand the Leader's, tactic and equipment used. From the age of eight, I either requested Military history books or plastic soldiers or model of equipment used for christmas or birthdays to try and understand more. I mainly read WW1 but in the last few year has change focus to include WW2. I am looking forward to been apart of this group. Oh I am married and semi retire due to a dodgy ticker, so more time for me to read!
