Hi all, Lately I have been reading several novels set in WWII, seeing movies about the War, and being drawn into its history and the lessons we can learn from it, and from the people who lived through it. Among the latter were my parents . Dad was a G.I. who fought in Europe, and my mom was the French girl he met and married.
I look forward to following the various threads here, and sharing our mutual interest in WWII.
Best,
Ellen

Hello all,I'm Laurance, I moved to Finland 5 years ago and since then have buried my head in as many Finnish history books as I could find.
Being an Army brat and then a Territorial, I have been interested in the Military since I can remember and my obsession has only grown with my length and girth ;)
Can reading "The Naval War. in the Baltic: 1939-1845" by Poul Grooss and so far I'm really impressed with the content. Definitely a must read for WW2 fans as it looks at an often overlooked part of the conflict.
Laurance,Let me be the first to welcome you to the Group
Welcome, Welcome!!
A word of warning, be prepared to have your TBR list explode :)

Welcome Anam and Laurance!
Anam, I read this book earlier this year and found it to be one of the best I've read in quite some time:
Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin

Welcome Anam (and Laurance!). There are so many good books on the Holocaust, and there's a whole discussion on here devoted to Holocaust books. I'm sure you'll get lots of recommendations. Two books that have really stayed with me are:
The Holocaustand
Forgotten Voices of The Holocaust: A new history in the words of the men and women who survived.

Hi Laurance and welcome to the group, I am sure you will find a few good books to add to your reading list :)
Hello, and welcome to the group chat from a writer in Longview, Texas--home of the Big Inch Pipeline which helped fuel the Allies jeeps, tanks, trucks, ships, and airplanes.
Hi everyone! I couldn't introduce myself to the group because I've been super busy and STILL am with my exams. But I'm REALLY excited to be a part of this group. History is my absolute favourite genre to read and the time period of the second world war is one of my most favourite subjects! So being include here with other people who share the same love for this era is amazing. I'm really excited to meet all of you! :D

omg thank you! I do have quite a few. I do find it hard to come across narratives of the WWII from the germans perspective. That would be an interesting perspective to read i think.
I'm also interested in anything to do with some of the great battles that were fought in WWII. Like the battle for normandy, Iwo Jima, and the D-day allied invasion. I don't know which ones are the best.
