Jeremy Strozer (jeremystrozer) Hello WW2 Group,

My name is Jeremy Strozer. I am an author of personal truth-inspired flash-fiction of what I call The 20th Century's War, which is a combination of WWI, II, and all of the subsequent wars which stem from these. You can find more about me at www.jeremystrozer.com or look me up here on goodreads at https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I am new to the group and look forward to learning from you and participating in some discussions around the topics which captivate us all.

Best,

Jeremy

Jeff (tnfishdaddy) Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I recently became interested in playing a miniatures wargame called Bolt Action. Because of this, I suddenly realized just how little I really know about WW2. I joined up here to try and find recommendations for must read books to help me in my journey to learn.

There are so many great books! One overarching chronicle I'd recommend is: A War To Be Won by Gerhard Weinberg

You read that, you'll have a pretty good idea of what happened, when, how, and why.

Welcome to the group, and if there's anything you want to know more about, don't be afraid to ask. Just be warned you might get more suggestions than you can handle!

Jeremy Boland | 7 comments Hello!

I'm Jeremy, aged 40, and a lifelong lover of history. I like it so much I took degrees in it!

WWII has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I remember being 7 or 8 and reading every one of my father's Time Life books on WWII; there must have been a dozen, with many pictures. I've not looked back since.

I've just begun an audio book on 'The Rise and Fall' by Shirer, which when finished will make it my third read through.

Anyway, that's me!

Checkman | 27 comments Hello everybody. I've been on Goodreads for six years now and some of you know me (well as well as anyone can know a total stranger in Cyberspace). I'm a big history buff. I served in the United States Army from 1986-2000. From 1986-1988 I was in the Army Reserve and then the Idaho Army National Guard (1988-1992). I went Regular Army in 1993 and my ETS (Expiration Term of Service) was 02/14/2000. I was stationed in Germany (93-96) with the 1/4th Infantry and then Ft. Drum, New York with the 10th Mountain Division. (96-2000) On October 12, 2000 I was sworn in as a police officer and that's what I've been doing ever since. I'm a father and husband. Our daughter is preparing to graduate from university and our son is in the United States Coast Guard - currently stationed in Alaska. I had many ancestors who served in WWII. My maternal grandfather flew B-17s and B-29s. Among his many decorations (which I inherited after he passed away in 2013) are four Distinguished Flying Crosses and two Bronze Stars. My father served in Vietnam. I served, but never deployed to a combat zone so I have no war stories of my own. I was a very ordinary soldier. Okay that's it for now.

Several Navy and Coast Guard vets in my family. My wife and I encouraged our son to join the Coast Guard and he actually followed our advice! Wow! I should have been a Coastie. Oh well.

Thanks! I'm reading, the traditional way, 'Heart of Europe' by Wilson (the good ole' Holy Roman Empire). I loved Wilson's book on the Thirty Year's War, a war I've made a bit of a study of - and of course to study the Thirty Year's Scuffle you MUST know the HRE (if such a thing is possible for any one human being). I'm giving it a try, though.

Have tentatively begun rereading 'The iron Kingdom' by Clark, mainly for a change of pace and I may not do a complete reread, but hop around as I often do with previously read books.

What else? A few months ago I scored my bookplate-autographed Folio Society of JJ Norwich's Byzantium series, something I've long wanted. next target, a signed 'peter the great' by Massey. I've already got a first edition, first printing. If you can't tell, I find aesthetic beauty in the right books. Goes hand in hand with my firearm collecting.

Well, too much wine tonight. Better sign off.

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) | 19987 comments I loved John Julius Norwich's trilogy on Byzantium, they are in my top favourite history books. Lots of luck on obtaining a signed edition of "Peter the Great".
