Looking forward to seeing group members aboard Midway. Just learned it's the 6th most popular U.S. museum of any type on tripadvisor. We are passionate about WWII history, since the USS Midway served 1945-1992.

I've been aboard several times, but never underway.

Thanks all for the welcome and the recommendations - I've got a couple on the shelf to read and a few more on order so plenty to get stuck into. Looking forward to more engagement with the group.
Hello everyone!I'm a graduate student at Clarion University studying library science. I'm surveying members of Goodreads about what kinds of involvement they would like their local libraries to have with Goodreads. Aussie Rick kindly gave me permission to share my survey with the group.
You can find my survey here:
Goodreads Users & Their Local Libraries
Unfortunately, I am unable to have people under the age of 18 take my survey. There are special regulations for including minors in research that would made it too difficult to include them in this study. Sorry!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and take the survey!
Hi, I'm Paul, an Anglo-Swiss retired academic living in the gorgeous Alps. I generally like historical fiction, but also want to know something about the real events depicted in novels. I have recently self published my first WW2 spy novel, loosely adapted from a true case. I look forward to playing an active part in the group.
Thanks very much everyone. There's plenty to involve me here! At the moment I'm especially interested in espionage activity 1939-40 in The Balkans, Palestine and Egypt.

Hello Everyone Just joined the group and thought I give a brief into. I hail from NY Sate and just got back into reading regularly about two years ago and I found that I miss so much & so many good books. I enjoy all genre and ww2 is included; both fiction and non-fiction. My next years reading challenge will be more than just how many books I plan to read; it will include all genre. With that said I will be choosing one from ww2 fiction depending on many factors, I'm leaning towards eye of the needle, dirty dozen, or Von Ryan 's Express...Unless I can find The Great Escape by Paul Brickhill, which is where I would like to start.
Hi Kenneth and a warm welcome to the group, you may be interested in the December theme read, its on a WW2 novel or novels of your choice, hopefully you can join in with a good book.
Welcome Kenneth, you will find some excellent recommendations from this group, and more "must read" books than you could have hoped for.
Welcome Kenneth, nice to have you join the group. Just ask and we can probably find a "few" books to recommend.
Let me add my welcome also KennethI think you should be able to find a few books to read in the various threads. I look forward to reading your comments!
HiI'm Rob from Oak Park IL. My grandfather was in WWII. North Africa 1942-43. He told me some stories but not nearly enough. My son, now 9, is very interested in WWII for some reason (not from me). Anyway, I have picked up an interest in reading about it.
Look forward to discussion....
Welcome Rob, nice to have you join us. Also great that your son is getting interested in WWII history.

Welcome Rob, you've come to a great group that have many great references to offer.
Welcome Rob. How about making your son the youngest member of this very inclusive group? :)I think we'll all be very interested to know what he would write in the "Book that started it all" thread.
Hi, my name is Gregg and "I cannot live without books..." (Thomas Jefferson) I have always been a student of history and continue to learn. The Great Patriotic War was my main focus for several years; even to the point of joining a reenacting unit in California years ago. An expensive hobby best left to the young. Now I read different genres but still return to WWII.

Cool. Can you recommend any English language titles on Netherlands 1940-1945?
Hi, my name is Marko and like to read books about history, with slight preference for WW2 topics. From WW2 topics I don't have strong preferences. Anything that it new and doesn't repeat same Normandy all over again is interesting. I live in UK (Cambridge) but I'm originally from Finland.
