Hi! I just joined this group, and I don't know where to start. I am very interested in World War II, as my father is a WWII veteran and military historian. I'm looking forward to being active in this group.
Hi Nita and welcome to the group, glad you have found us. Do you have a particular area of interest?

Welcome, Nita. This group will fatten your TBR stack.
Thank you for all the nice comments. My Dad was in the army infantry. He landed at Normandy and fought all the way through the Battle of the Bulge. This seems like a really friendly group.

The D-Day landings at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge are two very well-documented battles, so suggesting reading material for you will not be an issue! Do you happen to know what unit(s) your father served in? We might be able to give you more specific references to match your father's experiences.
Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a graduate history student taking a course on WW2 this semester. I have quite an extensive reading list and I'll be chalking off about 1-2 books each week. I was glad to find this group on here!

Nita, we generally have a theme and members select any book they would like within the general theme outline. Here are the remaining group reads for the year:

Hello everyone. My name is John and I joined the group a couple of weeks ago but am only just now saying hi.I've been interested in the war for a long, long time. My mother got me interested in reading at an early age. I remember that my parents had a set of American Heritage books, one of which was The American Heritage Picture History of World War II. It was largely this book that led me to seek out more books about the war.
My father was in the Navy during the war and, while he never saw combat, he did have some interesting stories to tell, especially of his time as an aircraft mechanic on Ford Island at Pearl Harbor. He mostly worked on Hellcats and Avengers. Not surprisingly the Pacific Theater is my favorite subject, although I am interested in all theaters of the war. Warbirds are also a favorite subject of mine.
My favorite books on the war are mostly first person accounts with E.B. Sledge's excellent With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa being at the top of the list.
I'm looking forward to being a part of the community and finding new books to read.
Hi John and a warm welcome to the group, hard not to agree with your personal favourite of With the Old Breed, a great first-hand account of the fighting in the Pacific.

Welcome John and pleased you found us. There are many in the group with military service and I think they'd all join me in saying that without gentlemen like your Dad none of us could operate our tanks, fly our aircraft, or sail our ships.
Welcome Peter...you have found a group that will introduce you to some excellent reading. Welcome aboard.
