Welcome, Nita. This group will fatten your TBR stack.

Welcome aboard, Nita! The D-Day landings at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge are two very well-documented battles, so suggesting reading material for you will not be an issue! Do you happen to know what unit(s) your father served in? We might be able to give you more specific references to match your father's experiences.

Welcome, Mike. I would be interested in seeing your reading list.

An excellent list.

My father was in the 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division. He was part of Patton's Third Army.

Nita: Harry Truman served in the 35th Div. in WW I. He commanded Battery D, 129th Field Artillery.

Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier. I've just gotten on Goodreads and am interested in history and historical fiction, though that's not all I read. I'm looking forward to discus..."
Welcome Peter...think you will find this a great group.

I know! My father met him several times at 35th Div. functions!

Welcome Mike, I agree that is an excellent reading list and you added some books to my TBR. That's what we do here, fatten each others' book shelves!

Welcome! It'll be nice to see an accredited reading list grow, I've always attached weight to good peer reviews.

I've been interested in the war for a long, long time. My mother got me interested in reading at an early age. I remember that my parents had a set of American Heritage books, one of which was The American Heritage Picture History of World War II. It was largely this book that led me to seek out more books about the war.
My father was in the Navy during the war and, while he never saw combat, he did have some interesting stories to tell, especially of his time as an aircraft mechanic on Ford Island at Pearl Harbor. He mostly worked on Hellcats and Avengers. Not surprisingly the Pacific Theater is my favorite subject, although I am interested in all theaters of the war. Warbirds are also a favorite subject of mine.
My favorite books on the war are mostly first person accounts with E.B. Sledge's excellent With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa being at the top of the list.
I'm looking forward to being a part of the community and finding new books to read.
